Son of Jeff and Connie. Married to Audrey, who hit a hole-in-one in January 2017 on their honeymoon. Craig captured the hole-in-one on video and it went viral, including being featured on The Today Show. Audrey has coached women’s volleyball at the University of Maryland and the University of Dayton. The couple has a son, Chase Samuel Stammen and a daughter, Summitt... Was a three-sport athlete at Versailles High School (OH). Pitched at the University of Dayton where he is the all-time strikeout leader. Earned his degree in entrepreneurship and business management. Was an Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference selection...Enjoys golfing and his all-time favorite baseball player is Eric Davis. Enjoys listening to Zac Brown Band. Has been known to frequent Chipotle. Ended the campaign as the third-longest tenured Padre, behind only Wil Myers and José Castillo…since joining the Padres in 2017 through 2022, his 333 regular season appearances ranked 11th in the Majors and second in the NL, behind only Kenley Jansen (357)....13 of his 20 ER on the season came across four separate appearances (16.71 ERA)…posted a 1.87 ERA (7 ER, 33.2 IP) across his other 29 outings....Allowed one earned run in five of his first 17 outings with a 2.41 ERA and 0.96 WHIP from April 7-June 3....Issued just one BB across his first 19 outings (21.0 IP) from April 7-June 10, joining ARI’s Joe Mantiply as the only ML relievers to issue just one walk across at least 20.0 relief outings over that span.... His 80.1 IP ranked third among NL relievers and fifth among all MLB relievers…they were the most since he worked 81.2 innings in 2013 while with WSH.. Fanned seven batters on 5/19 vs. ARI, which were the most he has ever struck out in his career as a reliever... On 5/19 vs. ARI and 5/23 at NYM, he tossed a season-high 3.1 IP, which were the most since he threw his 3.1 IP on 7/11/14 at PHI, while with WSH... Had a 15.0-scoreless inning streak (in a span of 13 games) from 8/17-9/18…allowed only seven hits and two walks with 16 strikeouts in that time... Faced 26 batters and inherited 24 runners with the bases loaded, which were both the most of any reliever in baseball… he allowed only two runs to score against him when pitching with the bases loaded, and his 8.3 inherited runners scored percentage was the best mark in baseball (among those who inherited at least 13 runners)…opponents posted a .077 average against him in such situations... After the All-Star break, he posted a 1.10 ERA (4 ER, 32.2 IP) in 31 appearances…the mark led all NL relievers in the second half of the season (min. 30.0 IP), and Stammen's mark was second to only David Robertson's 0.97 ERA (split between CWS and NYY)... Again thrived in long relief role in third complete MLB season...Went 4-5 with a 3.84 ERA in 49 games out of the bullpen...Posted finest strikeoutto-walk ratio (4.00) & walk rate (1.73 per 9.0 inn.) of his career...Led Nationals bullpen with 72.2 innings pitched...Worked a season-high 4.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief, May 17 vs. New York Mets...In relief appearances greater than or equal to 3.0 IP, went 1-1 with a 1.37 ERA (3 ER/19.2 IP), 15 strikeouts and a 0.81 WHIP.

2013

Ranked 3rd in NL with team-leading 81.2 relief innings in 2nd consecutive stellar campaign pitching in both a middle- and long-relief role...at 2.76, posted top ERA among 7 big league relievers to toss at least 80.0 innings of relief...notched career bests in SO/BB ratio (2.93/1), home run rate (0.44/9.0), relief wins (7) and ground-ball percentage (71.1%)...133 ground balls induced were 5th-most in MLB per STATS, Inc....worked 2.0+ innings of relief 21 times and when doing so, registered a 1.29 ERA.

2012

Thrived in long relief role in first complete MLB campaign...led Washington's bullpen with a career-high 6 wins...10 holds were also a career high... ranked among NL relievers in innings (2nd, 88.1), wins (tied 5th, 6) and K's (8th, 87)...worked at least 2.0 innings in 28 of 59 relief appearances... when working 2.0 or more innings, ERA was 1.89...recorded a 1.29 ERA in Sept./Oct...successfully stranded 22 of 27 inherited baserunners (81%)... in April 12 home opener vs. CIN, struck out the side on 10 pitches in the 10th inning and was rewarded with the win as the Nationals won, 3-2... one day later, pitched one scoreless inning, fanning 3, but did allow a single, to earn another win in Washington's 2-1 win on April 13 vs. CIN... pocketed first save of career with scoreless 10th in a 6-4 victory on Sept. 29 at STL.

2011

Spent majority of the season with Triple-A Syracuse as a starter, but enjoyed 2 stints with the Nationals ... pitched well in limited time with Washington, going 1-1 with a 0.87 ERA in 7 relief appearances ... was initially recalled from Syracuse, June 4, and made two relief appearances before returning to Syracuse for the remainder of the Chiefs' season ... returned to Washington after being recalled, September 6, and finished 2011 pitching out of the bullpen ... limited opposing batters to a .088 (3-for-34) batting average against ... after rejoining the Nationals, September 6, fired 8.1 shutout innings over five appearances to close out 2011.

2010

Pitched remarkably similar in sophomore season compared to rookie campaign of '09...began 2010 in Washington's rotation, endured a stint with Triple-A Syracuse (2-0, 2.55 ERA in 3 International League starts, June 12-23), returned to Washington's rotation and finished pitching out of the bullpen...was 1-2 with a 5.43 ERA upon being optioned to Triple-A following start on June 6 vs. CIN...after return from Triple-A, posted a 4.82 ERA in 23 games/7 starts, fanning 7.9 batters per 9.0 innings...for the season, went 4-4 with a 5.06 ERA in 19 starts, and 0-0 with one hold (Sept. 23 vs. HOU) and a 5.48 ERA in 16 relief appearances...in those 16 games out of the bullpen, struck out 25 in 23.0 innings (9.8 per 9.0 innings)...both 19 starts and 8 quality starts ranked 3rd among Nationals...induced 16 GIDPs to rank 2nd among Nationals behind only John Lannan (19)...walked one or fewer batter in 9 of 19 starts.

2009

Spent Spring Training in Nationals minor league camp, having never pitched above Double-A, but went 4-7 with a 5.11 ERA in 19 starts for the Nationals...did not pitch after August 29...had surgery performed by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih in DC on Sept. 6 to clean out bone spurs...ground-ball specialist recorded a 1.7/1 ground ball-to-fly ball ratio that would have ranked 12th in the NL with enough innings to qualify...walked just 2.04 batters per 9.0 innings, a figure that would have ranked 8th in the NL with enough innings...walked one or none in 13 of 19 starts...thrice (L, June 12 at TBR; ND, June 30 at FLA; ND, August 18 vs. COL) left in line for the win only to receive a no-decision or loss.
Game-By-Game Highlights: In big league debut, May 21 vs. PIT, retired 19 of first 20 batters faced, but received a no-decision...notched first big league win in a 3-0 victory on June 18 at NYY...became the first Nationals pitcher to record an initial MLB win on the road since Collin Balester turned the trick on July 1, 2008 at FLA.
In Minor Leagues: Went 4-2 with a 1.80 ERA (8 ER/40.0 IP) in 7 IL starts with Syracuse...allowed one earned run or less in 5 of his 7 assignments...stingy .223 batting average against, including a .063 (2-for-32) mark with RISP.

2008

Went combined 8-7 with a 3.52 ERA in 30 games (23 starts) with Columbus of the Triple-A International League, Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League and Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League...earned Carolina League mid-season All-Star honors, but did not participate due to June 18 promotion to Harrisburg...went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA in 6 starts with Senators...went 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in 2 starts and was named MiLB.com Eastern League Pitcher of the Week and Bank Of America EL Pitcher of the Week for the period ending July 13...in 4 July starts, went 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA (3 ER/25.0 IP) for the Senators...pitching for Potomac on May 26 vs. Lynchburg, earned the win and struck out single-game professional high 10 en route to 8.0 innings of 2-run ball.

2007

In 28 games (22 starts) with Potomac, went 8-6 with a 4.18 ERA...allowed only 9 home runs in 125.0 innings, or one long ball every 14.0 innings...made 6 relief appearances with Potomac and posted .227 batting average against en route to a 3.00 bullpen ERA...earned a spot start with Columbus on September 2 at Toledo.

2006

Spent majority of the season with Savannah of the Single-A South Atlantic League, where he posted a 3.58 ERA in 21 starts...went 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA in 5 June starts...was touched for just one home run in 21 first innings with Savannah... pitched in 7 games (6 starts) with Potomac during late-season audition.

2005

Made 13 appearances (7 starts) with short-season Vermont of the rookie-level New York-Penn League, going 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA...spun 2.1 scoreless innings out of bullpen in professional debut, June 22 at Lowell.

2020

His 24 appearances T-1st out of the Padres pen with Pierce Johnson and his 4 wins T-2nd on the entire SD staff...Gave up multiple earned runs in 3 outings (59.40 ERA)... gave up just 4 ER across his other 21 app. (1.61 ERA), allowing just 16 hits and 3 BB...Posted a season-high 6.1 scoreless IP streak across 6 outings from Sept. 4-19, allowing just 3 hits (.150 AVG) while striking out 6...Relied on 5 pitches: sinker (65.0%), slider (20.7%), curve (12.2%), changeup (1.6%) and 4-seamer (0.5%)...his 2.5 barrel % ranked in the top 3%.
