Made quite an impression over the last month of the season after coming up to the big leagues for the first time to assume the spot in the rotation of the injured Anthony Reyes...Recalled from AAA Buffalo on Sept. 7 and earned his first Major League win in MLB debut on September 10 at Baltimore, a 7-1 Indians win... He was outstanding as he tossed 8.0 shutout innings holding the Orioles to just three hits while striking out three... 8.0IP, 3H, 3K, 96P...Since 1956 only 4 other Indians pitchers (see box) have tossed more innings in their debut than Lewis... The 8.0 shutout innings by Lewis is the 2nd longest start since 1956 in club history w/o allowing a run... Only Luis Tiant's CG shutout in 1965 tops Lewis, as since '56 Tiant is the only Tribe pitcher to hurl a CG SHO in his debut...Won his 2nd start w/6.0 more shutout IP on Sept. 15 vs. Minnesota (6.0IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 5K)... According to ELIAS, the last Indians pitcher to not allow a run in his first 14.0IP as a starter was Dennis Eckersley, who had a 14-IP streak in May 1975...Streak was extended to 15.0 scoreless to start his career in picking up his 3rd win in as many starts (5.0IP, 8H, 3R) on Sept. 21 vs. Detroit...The 15.0 scoreless IP to start a career (T2nd longest by an Indian in 2008) by an Indians pitcher since at least 1969 (Elias SB)...Won his 4th start at Chicago on Sept 26 (5.0IP, 6H,4ER, 3HR) to move to 4-0...No Indians pitcher has started his career by winning 4 straight starts since at least 1969 (Elias SB)...Named AL Rookie of the Month for September as he was T1st among AL pitchers in wins (4) and 11th in ERA (min 20.0IP, 2.63ERA)... Lefties had a .391 OPS off him and were 3 for 23 (.130) overall (1HR)...Batters at the big league level hit .222 (20-90, 4HR) off him, 5 for 36 (.139) with runners on and 3 for 24 (.125) with RISP (0-9 w/RISP-2outs)... Pitched for Aguilas (5GS, 22.0IP) in the Dominican Winter League after the season...Optioned to AA Akron on March 10th... Over his final 7 starts at Akron was 3-0 with a 0.41ERA (44.1IP, 25H, 4R/2ER, 5BB, 41K) as he didn't allow an earned run in 5 of the final 7 starts... Did not allow an earned run in his final 19.1IP at Akron... Limited hitters to a .224 average (62-277) including a mark of .197 (13-66) against left-handed hitters...Was promoted to AAA Buffalo on August 14th... Went 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA (24.0IP, 19H, 8R/7ER, 4BB, 21K) in 4 starts with AAA Buffalo ... Allowed just 2 runs/earned in 14.0 innings (1.29ERA) over his final 2 starts at AAA but his record was just 1-1... Did not walk a batter while striking out 14... AAA hitters were 19 for 86 (.221) against him with right-handed hitters going just 9 for 56 (.161)... Combined at AA Akron and AAA Buffalo during the 2008 season was 8-4 with a 2.53 ERA (103.0IP, 88H, 33R/29ER, 14BB, 85K) in 18 starts... Was transferred back to AA Akron following the conclusion of the Bisons season so he could continue to pitch...
