Originally signed as an outfielder, but was converted to pitcher in his 2nd professional stint.
2009
Spent 1st season with the Red Sox...Set a career high with 7 wins...7 wins also tied for 3rd highest total among ML relievers behind NYY's Alfredo Aceves (10) and OAK's Craig Breslow (8)...Marked most victories for a BOS reliever since Mike Timlin's 7 in 2005...Tied for 6th among AL relievers with .636 winning pct...3rd among Sox relievers with 2.84 ERA (22 ER/69.2 IP)...Limited opponents to a .233 average (61-for-262), including a .182 mark (24-for-132) on the road...Placed 3rd in the AL among players with at least 30 road appearances...Since 1954, Jonathan Papelbon (.159, 2006), Keith Foulke (.159, 2004) and Dick Radatz (.164, 1964) are the only Sox hurlers with a lower single-season opponent batting average on the road (minimum 30 appearances)...Kept opponents to just a .091 clip (1-for-11) with the bases loaded...Allowed just 22.0 percent (9 of 41) of inherited runners to score, 7th best in the AL and 2nd among AL righthanders behind OAK's Michael Wuertz (20.0 percent)...Blanked opponents in 55 of 70 games, allowing 1 run 8 times...Tossed more than 1.0 inning on 13 occasions, boasting a 0.83 ERA (2 ER/21.2 IP) in those contests...Had a 1.27 ERA (4 ER/28.1 IP) in 1st 27 games through 6/9 and a 2.18 mark (10 ER/41.1 IP) after 41 games through 7/26...Logged a 3.81 ERA (12 ER/28.1 IP) over his last 29 games beginning 7/27, including 13 total runs (9 ER) in his final 17 appearances (4.86)...Held opponents scoreless over his 1st 15.0 innings from 4/8-5/3, tied for 5th longest streak by a Sox pitcher in 2009 and 0.1 inning shy of career high (15.1, 4/14-5/13/06)...Streak spanned 13 games, the most consecutive scoreless appearances by any pitcher to begin his Red Sox career since 1954...Ejected for 1st time in career 8/8 at NYY, by home plate umpire Jim Joyce for hitting Alex Rodriguez with a pitch.

Spent most of the season in the minor leagues and finished 6-8, 3.59 with 1 save in 24 starts and 6 relief apps at Class AA Chattanooga and Class AAA Louisville...led all Reds farmhands in strikeouts (145) and ranked fifth in ERA...in his Major League debut went 1-1, 2.67 in 4 starts and 1 relief appearance for the Reds...in his 4 starts the Reds went 3-1 and scored 23 runs (5.75 r/g)...3 of his 4 starts were quality apps...in each of his first 2 starts was the victim of blown saves after the bullpen didn't hold 3-run leads...on 8/30 was recalled from Louisville to take the spot in the rotation vacated by the injured Johnny Cueto...started that night's 7-6 win vs SF (7ip, 5h, 3er, 2bb, 6k, 2hr) but received no decision after the bullpen didn't hold his 6-3 lead...the next day was optioned to Sarasota to make room on the roster for C/IF/OF Wilkin Castillo, who was acquired from the Diamondbacks in the Adam Dunn trade...was recalled again when rosters expanded in September...made 4 more apps for the Reds, including his last 3 in the starting rotation (1-1, 2.65)...earned his first career victory in his fourth appearance and third start, an 11-2 win on 9/19 vs Mil...made his only relief appearance for the Reds in the 8-6 win on 9/4 vs Pit and threw 3.0 perfect innings in relief of Josh Fogg, who suffered a strained right groin...in that game singled off Tom Gorzelanny for his first career hit...was 1 of 10 Reds player to make his Major League debut, joining RHP Johnny Cueto, IF Paul Janish, OF Jay Bruce, LHP Daniel Ray Herrera, RHP Daryl Thompson, IF Adam Rosales, OF Chris Dickerson, C/IF/OF Wilkin Castillo and RHP Josh Roenicke...began the season with the Lookouts and went 2-3, 4.70 in 11 apps there before he was promoted on 5/23...finished the minor league season with the Bats by going 4-5, 3.08 with 1 save in 19g, including a 1.38era in his last 5 starts there...earned his only save in the 12-11 Bats victory on 7/3 vs Indianapolis...on 8/25 vs Columbus and threw 6.0 shutout innings to earn the 6-3 victory...was Louisville's 85th win of the season, a new franchise record...on 8/7 vs Toledo recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts, the most by a Bats pitcher all season...in a 1-0 win on 7/11 at Buffalo threw 7.0 scoreless innings...pitched for Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League (8g, 7gs, 0-3, 4.38, 37ip, 35h, 17bb, 28k).
2007
At Class A Sarasota, Class AA Chattanooga and Class AAA Louisville combined to finish 11-3-2, 3.70 in 14 starts and 22 relief apps...ranked among all Reds minor league pitchers in strikeouts (137, 2nd), victories (T4th) and ERA (9th)...began the season at Sarasota...was promoted to Chattanooga on 6/22... was promoted to Louisville on 8/18 and made his Class AAA debut by throwing 14.2 scoreless innings over 2 starts and 3 relief apps for the Bats...following the season pitched for Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League (3gs, 0-2, 8.10, 10ip, 21h, 0bb, 4k)...on 11/20 was added to the 40-man roster.
