Pitched the majority of the season at Single-A Lakeland before earning a promotion to Double-A Erie in August...went 7-11 with a 5.11 ERA in 19 starts for Lakeland... was tied for second in the Florida State League with three complete games for Lakeland...tied for third in the league with 11 losses...fanned a season-high 11 batters in a win over Vero Beach on 5/24...matched the high with 11 strikeouts in a loss on 6/24 vs. Jupiter...in four July starts, compiled a 2-2 record with a 2.08 ERA (26.0IP, 6ER)...struck out 25 batters during the month, while limiting the opposition to a .216 batting average (19-for-88)...was promoted to Erie on 8/9 and made two starts (12.2IP, 3ER) before landing on the disabled list for the remainder of the season with a right knee medial meniscus injury on 8/21...was named the fifth-best prospect in the Tigers organization following the season by Baseball America.

2003

Spent the entire season at Single-A West Michigan, going 7-7 with a 4.42 ERA in 23 starts...was selected to the Midwest League's mid-season All-Star Team...allowed only three home runs in 116.0IP...opponents batted .249 (107-for-429, HR); LH .255 (49-for-192, 1HR), RH .245 (58-for-237, 2HR)...ranked third in the Midwest League and tied for fifth in the minors with 78 walks...compiled a 6-3 record with a 2.45 ERA (62.1IP, 17ER) in 11 starts during April and May, before finishing 1-4 with a 6.71 ERA (53.2IP, 40ER) over his final 12 starts of the season...won four games in May, finishing the month with a 4-1 record and a 2.31 ERA in six starts (35.0IP, 9ER) while limiting opponents to a .210 batting average (26-for-124)...was placed on the disabled list from 7/8-26 with an inflamed right elbow...named the 15th-best prospect in the Tigers organization following the season by Baseball America.
