Married wife Jennifer in 2007, and has one son, Aiden... was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York City when he was 10... attended South Bronx High School, starring on the baseball team... returns every offseason to instruct and mentor current members of the school's baseball team... was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2000 draft out of high school, but did not sign and chose to attend Rockland Community College in New York... played for Connors State (Oklahoma) College in 2002 and finished with an 8-1 record and a 1.17 ERA in 12 games, earning NJCAA Region II "Pitcher of the Year" honors... signed by Rob Guzik and Buddy Paine (Tigers).
2008
Made two relief appearances with the Yankees, allowing 1ER in 2.0IP with 2BB and 1K in his first Major League action...Was recalled from Double-A Trenton prior to 9/15 win vs. Chicago (AL)... made his Major League debut in 9/18 win vs. Chicago (AL), tossing a perfect eighth (1.0IP, 1K)... was one of three Yankees to make their Major League debut in that game (also Francisco Cervelli and Juan Miranda)... according to the Elias Sports Bureau, was the first time three different Yankees made their ML debut in the same game since 3/31/03 when Hideki Matsui, Jose Contreras and Jason Anderson each debuted in the Yankees' 8-4 win at Toronto...Second appearance came in 9/25 loss at Toronto, allowing 1H and 1ER in 1.0IP (2BB)...Opened the 2008 season on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his right elbow... was transferred to the 60-day D.L. on 4/14 when C Chad Moeller was signed to a Major League contract... missed 144 team games... was returned from rehab and reinstated from the D.L. on 9/8 and optioned to Trenton...Began a rehab assignment on 6/24 with the GCL Yankees, making his first professional appearance since 8/3/06 with Triple-A Toledo... made nine appearances (four starts) with the GCL club, going 0-1 with a 3.11 ERA (8.1IP, 3ER) before experiencing a setback and having his rehab halted... began a new rehab assignment on 8/11 with the GCL Yankees... overall, in 15 combined rehab appearances (12 starts) with GCL, Single-A Tampa and Trenton, was 0-2 with a 3.68 ERA and 19K in 14.2IP (14H, 7R, 6ER, 5BB)... also made an additional appearance with Trenton in the Eastern League Championship Series after being reinstated, throwing 1.0 scoreless inning (1BB, 1K) in 9/10 loss vs. Akron during the finals...Following the season, pitched for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League, going 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA (12.0IP, 16ER) in 11 relief appearances... allowed 10ER combined over two outings (0.2IP), but pitched to a 4.76 ERA over his remaining nine games (11.1IP, 6ER).

Posted a 10-6 record and ranked second among all Tigers' minor-league pitchers with a 2.63 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 20 starts with Triple-A Toledo and Double-A Erie...over his two stops, allowed only 4HR in 123.0IP...for the season, opponents batted .220 (97-for-440, 4HR); LH .221 48-for-217, 2HR), RH .220 (49-for-223, 2HR)...began the season with Erie, going 5-3 with a 1.76 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .190 batting average (47-for-248) in 11 starts...struck out at least eight batters in eight of his 11 starts...Struck out a minor-league career high 13 batters on 4/29 vs. Binghamton, tossing 7.0 shutout innings (5H, 3BB) to earn the win...tossed a minor-league career-high 8.2 innings of shutout ball in 5/23 win at Harrisburg (4H, 1BB, 9K)...was promoted to Toledo on 6/8 and went 5-1 with a 2.15 ERA in his first six starts with Toledo from 6/8-7/3...was named the International League "Pitcher of the Week" from 6/12-18, winning both of his starts during the week while tossing 13.1 scoreless innings...was named the Tigers' minor-league "Pitcher of the Month" in back-to-back months (May and June) after allowing just 3ER over seven consecutive starts from 5/17-6/18 (47.2IP, 49K)...Started the 2006 Futures Game for the World Team on 7/9 at Pittsburgh, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning with two strikeouts...was placed on the disabled list on 8/4 through the remainder of the season with an inflamed right elbow...finished the season with a 5-3 record and a 3.86 ERA in nine starts with the Mud Hens and allowed only two home runs in 51.1IP...following the season, was ranked as the third-best prospect in the Yankees organization by

Was limited to 15 appearances (11 starts) for Double-A Erie after making three stints on the disabled list...went 3-5 with a 5.57 ERA...in his 11 starts, was 3-4 with a 5.20 ERA (55.1IP, 32ER)...in four relief appearances, was 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA (9.1IP, 8ER)...opponents batted .283 (72-for-254, 10HR); LH .306 (30-for-98, 5HR), RH .269 (42-for-156, 5HR)...missed the first two months of the season with a right lat strain.... struck out a season-high 10 batters in only 5.0IP on 6/15 vs. Akron...finished with 31 strikeouts in five starts during June, posting a 2-1 record with a 5.11 ERA (24.2IP, 14ER)...Was placed on the disabled list for a second time from 7/30-8/7 with a right groin strain...left his start on 8/7 at Bowie after reaggravating his groin injury during the game's first batter and was forced to the disabled list for a third time the following day...was named the sixth-best prospect in the Tigers organization following the season by

Pitched the majority of the season at Single-A Lakeland before earning a promotion to Double-A Erie in August...went 7-11 with a 5.11 ERA in 19 starts for Lakeland... was tied for second in the Florida State League with three complete games for Lakeland...tied for third in the league with 11 losses...fanned a season-high 11 batters in a win over Vero Beach on 5/24...matched the high with 11 strikeouts in a loss on 6/24 vs. Jupiter...in four July starts, compiled a 2-2 record with a 2.08 ERA (26.0IP, 6ER)...struck out 25 batters during the month, while limiting the opposition to a .216 batting average (19-for-88)...was promoted to Erie on 8/9 and made two starts (12.2IP, 3ER) before landing on the disabled list for the remainder of the season with a right knee medial meniscus injury on 8/21...was named the fifth-best prospect in the Tigers organization following the season by
