Eric William Hurley...Attended Wolfson High School in Jacksonville (FL), where he was teammates with Billy Butler from the Royals...Originally signed by Rangers' scout Guy DeMutis...Selected to Mid-Season All Star Team in 2005 (Midwest League), 2006 (California League) and 2007 (Texas League)...Pitched for the U.S. in the 2006 MLB Futures Game in Pittsburgh...Also named Rangers' Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year for 2006...Missed entire 2009 season recovering from right shoulder surgery and 2010 season recovering from a left wrist injury.

2010

Was on a throwing program in spring training as he attempted to continue his comeback from shoulder surgery ... was forced to have surgery to repair a broken bone in his left (nonthrowing) wrist on March 17 ... while the injury was not expected to significantly sideline his progress, a screw that was inserted during that surgery later started to come out of the bone, requiring a second surgery on his left wrist on April 27 ... the second screw again started backing out in the wrist ... required a third surgery on June 22 in Scottsdale, Ariz. performed by Dr. Don Sheridan, in which the doctor took additional measures to increase the chances of the screw remaining stable ... was sidelined for 6-8 weeks after that last surgery.

2009

Underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and frayed labrum on Jan. 21, 2009, and missed the entire season...the surgery was performed by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister at the Medical Center of Arlington...Hurley, who finished the 2008 season on the disabled list, had attempted to rehab the shoulder over the offseason to no avail...continued most of his rehabilitation in Arlington throughout the season.

2008

Made his major league debut in a season that was shortened by a pair of stints on the disabled list...went 1-2, 5.47 (15 ER/24.2 IP) in 5 games/starts with Texas in his major league debut...spent the early part of the year with Oklahoma (AAA), posting 2-5 record with 5.30 ERA (44 ER/74.2 IP) in 13 games/starts...ranked 2nd in the Pacific Coast League with 72 strikeouts at the time of his call-up to majors...went 1-1, 6.93 (19 ER/24.2 IP) through his first 5 outings and 1-4, 4.50 (25 ER/50.0 IP) over his next 8...tossed 7.0 shutout frames in victory on May 22 vs. New Orleans...held opponents to a .245 average (36-147) over his final 5 starts...had contract purchased by Texas on June 12, making his major league debut that day in series finale at Kansas City...took no decision in Rangers' 6-5 loss, allowing 4 runs in 6.0 innings, all on 2-run homers by Alex Gordon and Mike Aviles...sat down 7 of last 8 faced in that outing...had one quality start in his 5 appearances for Texas...earned first ML victory in 5-1 Texas win on June 29 vs. Philadelphia, eventual World Series champions...just 22 at the time, Hurley started opposite 45-year-old Jamie Moyer and held Phillies scoreless through 5.0 frames before allowing a run in the 6th...after a DL stint and one rehab outing at Frisco, returned to make one more start for Texas, taking loss July 27 at Oakland (2.0 IP, 6 ER).

At only 21 years of age, split the season between Frisco (AA) and Oklahoma (AAA), combining to go 11-9 with a 4.00 ERA (72 ER/162.0 IP) in 28 games/27 starts...ranked among organizational leaders in strikeouts (T4th, 135), ERA (5th), and wins (T5th)...after the season, ranked by Baseball America as the 8th-best prospect in the Texas League and 16th-best prospect in the Pacific Coast League...also rated as having organization's best slider by the publication...began the year with Frisco, going undefeated in his first 10 games/9 starts through May 23, 6-0, 1.83 (13 ER/64.0 IP)...capped that season-opening stretch with a 9.0-inning complete game shutout, a 5-hitter with 8 strikeouts, on May 23 vs. Wichita...took loss in last Frisco start on June 19 at Midland (4.0 IP, 9 H, 8 R-ER) and was promoted to Oklahoma on June 25...in 13 games/starts for the RedHawks, opponents hit just .236 (65-276)...took loss in his Triple-A debut on June 25 vs. Omaha (5.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R-4 ER)...earned win in next start on July 1 at Omaha, tossing 6.0 shutout innings with season-high 9 strikeouts...participated in informal minicamp at Rangers Ballpark for a week in January 2008

Named the Rangers' Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year...combined to go 8-7 with a 3.53 ERA (54 ER/137.2 IP) and 137 strikeouts in 24 games/starts for Bakersfield (A) and Frisco (AA)...ranked 2nd among Texas full-season minor leaguers in ERA (3.53) and 3rd in strikeouts (137)...earned California League All-Star honors...selected to play in the 2006 All-Star Futures Game...ranked by Baseball America as the Rangers' no. 2 prospect after the season, the no. 5 prospect in the Cal League...also tabbed by the publication as having the organization's best fastball...posted career-high 15 strikeouts in 8.0 innings with Bakersfield on May 9 vs. High Desert...on 7-day DL May 23-30 with a sprained right wrist...took a no-hitter into the 8th inning on June 15 vs. Stockton...allowed a run in 0.2 inning of MLB Futures Game on July 9 in Pittsburgh...promoted to Frisco on July 24...on the disabled list from Aug. 23- end of the season with a strained oblique muscle.

2005

Spent the entire season with Clinton, ranking 2nd among all Texas minor leaguers in strikeouts (152) and wins (12)...finished 6th in Texas system with a 3.77 ERA (65 ER/155.1 IP)...led the Midwest League in strikeouts and tied for league lead in starts...also ranked among MWL leaders in wins (4th) and ERA (10th)...recorded 8.81 strikeouts per 9 IP, 4th-best in the circuit...ranked by Baseball America as the Midwest League's 3rd-best prospect following the season...earned Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Month honors in April...named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the period from July 11-17...earned win in lone postseason appearance, Sept. 7 at Quad Cities, allowing 2 runs with 9 strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

2004

Split first professional season between the Arizona League and Spokane...combined to go 0-3, 4.33 (21 ER/43.2 IP) with 36 strikeouts in 14 games/8 starts...started season with the Arizona Rangers...made professional debut on June 28 at AZL Royals, recording 4 K's in 1.1 scoreless innings...made Spokane debut on July 27...tabbed by Baseball America as the Northwest League's 13th-best prospect.
