Garrett Andrew Olson graduated from Buchanan High School in Clovis, CA...Attended Cal Poly and majored in mechanical engineering...Earned first-team All-American honors for the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaskan Summer League in 2004 (7-0, 0.88).
2011
Was a member of the Pirates' Opening Day roster...Spent the majority of the year with Indianapolis (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League...Designated for Assignment on April 15 and outrighted to Indianapolis on April 20, where he spent the remainder of the season...At Triple-A he was on the Disabled List from May 15-June 7 with an oblique strain and from August 13-August 22 with a left groin strain...Was 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA in 15 starts for Indianapolis...In 71.0 innings, he allowed 46 hits, 25 runs, 23 earned, with 35 walks and 52 strikeouts...Opponents hit .189 against him as a starter (46-244)...Out of the bullpen, went 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA in nine contests at Triple-A...In 14.2 innings, he allowed 17 hits, 10 runs, six earned, with 12 walks and nine strikeouts...Made 14 straight starts from May 14-August 12...Lefthanded batters hit .188 (16-85) against him while righthanders compiled a .216 (47-218) average against him...In 10 starts in June and July, he went 3-0 with a 2.44 ERA (14 earned runs/51.2 innings), and permitted 27 hits with 26 walks and 36 strikeouts.
