Jonathan Benjamin Edwards…he and his wife Katelyn have one child, Benjamin…graduated from Keller High School (TX) in 2006…after initially signing in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft as an outfielder by the St. Louis Cardinals and playing in five minor league seasons with the Cardinals organization, later was signed by Texas Rangers' scout Bobby Crook after a workout following the 2011 season.

Pitched in a career-high 22 Major League games between Texas and San Diego after being acquired by the Padres as part of a three-player trade in August....Over 37 combined minor league outings between Triple-A Round Rock and Triple-A El Paso, went 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA (5 ER, 36.2 IP) to go along with 23 saves in 24 opportunities and 51 strikeouts against 11 walks while allowing a .168 opponents average....Named a Pacific Coast League Mid-Season All-Star for Round Rock and a PCL Post-Season All-Star for El Paso....Acquired by the Padres on 8/21 from the Rangers to complete an earlier trade on 8/18 in exchange for OF Will Venable....Pitched in five games for El Paso, working 5.0 scoreless innings before being called up to San Diego where he posted a 3.38 ERA (4 ER, 10.2 IP) with 16 strikeouts against eight walks.

Made his major league debut in just his 3rd full season on the mound...had contract purchased on 8/15 when Robbie Ross Jr. was optioned, and posted no record and a 4.32 ERA (4 ER/8.1 IP) in 9 relief outings while spending the rest of the year in the majors...had 9 K's, but permitted 13 hits and 5 BB for a 2.160 WHIP in his limited action with the Rangers...opponents hit .351 (13-37) with just one extra-base hit (2B), with right-handers at .286 (6-21)...in ML debut 8/15 vs. LAA, first 2 batters faced were Albert Pujols (foul out) and Josh Hamilton (single), tossing 0.2 scoreless inning...first 5 G: 5.0 IP, 1 R-0 ER; last 4 G: 3.1 IP, 4 R-ER...career-high 2.0 IP, 8/26 at SEA, and high of 2 SO on 3 occasions...surrendered runs in 3 of 9 appearances overall...first batters were 4-for-9 (.444)...allowed 2 of 4 inherited runners to score, had one hold, no save chances, and 3 games finished.
