Single...Was selected by Chicago Cubs in the 14th round of the 2002 draft and signed to a 2003 contract by Cubs scout Brian Milnar...Received a bachelor's degree in construction science from the University of Oklahoma in 2003 after graduating from Coppell (TX) HS in 1998...Was a 4-time academic all-Big 12 Conference selection and earned honorable mention all-Big 12 honors in 2001 while at Oklahoma...Was named to the NCAA regional all-tournament team in 2000.
2007
Began the season in the Chicago Cubs' organization before being acquired along with INF Scott Moore and a player to be named in exchange for RHP Steve Trachsel on August 31...Spent most of season with AAA Iowa, but had 3 separate stints with the Cubs...Went 2-0 with 7 saves and a 4.59 ERA (51.0IP, 26ER) with Iowa, averaging 9.9 strikeouts per 9.0 innings...Was with Cubs April 23-May 15, June 30-July 12 & July 27-August 3, going 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 12 games (15.0IP, 13H, 6R/5ER, 6BB, 13K)...Did not allow a run in 9 of 12 games with Chicago and held opponents to a .224 batting average...Made his major league debut on April 23 vs. Milwaukee...Gave up a solo HR to Prince Fielder in 12th inning to take a 5-4 loss...Earned his first big league win on May 1 at Pittsburgh, retiring both batters he faced in the Cubs' come-from- behind 8-6 win...Allowed 4 runs in 0.1 IP at Boston in his Orioles debut on September 1...Pitched a season-high 3.0 innings on September 12 vs. the Los Angeles Angels...Allowed runs in 6 of 10 outings for the Orioles.
