Marcus Andre McBeth...attended the University of South Carolina, where in 2001 he hit .280 with 17 home runs and 58 RBI...returned kicks for the Gamecocks' football team as a freshman...was originally drafted by the A's in the 4th round of the 2001 draft and was signed by A's scout Kelly Heath Aug. 16, 2001...did not play until 2002.
2009
Had two stints with Boston but did not appear in a game...was selected July 31 but was optioned back to Pawtucket the next day...returned Aug. 29 but was again sent back to Triple-A the following day... compiled a 2-3 record, three saves and a 2.69 ERA in a team leading 44 games, including one start, at Pawtucket...ranked second among International League relievers in opponents batting average (.194) and fewest base runners per nine innings (9.97) and fifth in strikeouts per nine innings (8.86)...issued a career high 30 walks...allowed a .189 opponents batting average overall, including .181 (25 for 138) against right-handed hitters and .200 (18 for 90) against left-handers...opponents hit .179 with runners in scoring position...yielded five home runs, four of which came with the bases empty...compiled a 1.70 ERA in 29 appearances before the All-Star Break and a 4.38 ERA in 15 outings after the break...had a 1.65 ERA in 21 games on the road and a 1.10 ERA in 11 appearances during the day...converted 3 of 6 (50.0%) save opportunities and allowed 14 of 33 (42.4%) inherited runners to score...tossed at least one inning in 42 of his 44 outings, including 2.0 or more 17 times.

Played the majority of the season for Cincinnati's Triple-A Louisville affiliate, going 1-1 with a 6.20 ERA over 24 games out of the bullpen...gave up seven runs in 0.2 innings vs. Norwich April 16 and was placed on the disabled list the following day...was reinstated June 8 and had a 4.35 ERA before being designated for assignment Aug. 9...was 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA for Triple-A Pawtucket after being claimed by Boston off waivers, Aug. 13...was designated for assignment Sept. 8 and outrighted to Pawtucket the following day...appeared in two of Pawtucket's four playoff games, posting a 3.00 ERA (1 er in 3.0 ip)...had a 2.50 ERA over his final 16 games with Louisville beginning June 13...did not allow a run over seven outings from June 22-July 10 (7.1 ip)...enjoyed an 11-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio with Pawtucket...combined to hold righties to a .196 average and lefties to a .250 mark...following the season, had a 23.62 ERA (7 er in 2.2 ip) in four games with Tiburones de La Guaira of the Venezuelan Winter League.
2007
In his Major League debut made 23 apps during 3 stints with the Reds...combined to go 2-1, 2.38 with 17 saves in 18 chances over 38 apps at Sacramento and Louisville...on 4/28 was acquired from the Athletics as a PTBNL in the 4/27/07 deal that sent OF Chris Denorfia to Oak for 2 PTBNL and cash... joined Louisville on 4/29 and in 8 relief apps there posted a 1.13era with 4 saves in 4 chances before he was recalled on 5/15...on 5/18 went on the bereavement list and 3 days later was reinstated from the bereavement list and optioned to Louisville without making an appearance for the Reds...would be promoted twice more, that last time after the Bats' season ended...in a 6-4 loss on 6/6 at StL pitched a perfect eighth inning in his Major League debut...on 6/9 vs Cle recorded his first career strikeout (Jason Michaels)...in the 12-inning, 1-0 victory on 6/10 vs Cle earned his first career win by throwing 2.0 hitless innings...also earned wins on 6/27 at Phi (9-6 win) and 9/21 at SF (9-8 win in 11 innings)... was 1 of 10 Reds players to make his Major League debut this season (OF Josh Hamilton, RHP Jared Burton, LHP Jon Coutlangus, RHP Brad Salmon, RHP Homer Bailey, LHP Phil Dumatrait, RHP Tom Shearn, 1B/OF Joey Votto, C Ryan Hanigan).
2006
In just his second season as a pitcher combined to finish 3-3, 3.07 in 59 apps at Class A Stockton, Class AA Midland and Class AAA Sacramento and ranked fifth among all minor leaguers with 32 saves...were the most saves by an A's farmhand since Todd Revenig had 33sv Huntsville in 1992...converted 32 saves in 38 chances (84%)...averaged 11.00 strikeouts per 9 innings...opponents hit just .198, including .173 by RH batters and .127 overall with RISP...ranked second in the Texas League with 25 saves...began the season at Stockton and in his 8 apps there opponents went 1-for-27...on 4/27 was promoted to Sacramento...on 5/11 was sent to Midland and finished the season there...in his last 21 apps of the season went 2-0-16, 1.59...had his best ERA in the month of July (12g, 1.93)...following the season pitched in 11g for Phoenix of the prestigious Arizona Fall League (1-0-2, 4.50) and was an AFL Pitcher of the Week....AFL opponents hit just .194.
2005
Prior to the season was converted to pitcher and combined to finish 2-2, 3.34 with 5 saves in 26 relief apps at AZL Athletics and Class A Kane County and Stockton...twice was on the disabled list with a sprained right ankle...averaged 10.30 strikeouts per 9 innings...opponents hit .220, including just .105 with RISP...recorded his fi rst professional victory on 6/25 at Clinton and his fi rst professional save on 7/11 at Lancaster...pitched for Phoenix in the Arizona Fal League (4g, 2.25era)...AFL opponents were just 1-for-12.
2004
In his last season as a position player (OF) helped Class A Modesto win the California League championship...made 59 apps in CF, 37 apps in RF and 2 apps in LF...in May hit .324...from 8/6-8/18 had a season-high 11-game hitting streak (.415, 6 2b, 1hr, 10rbi)...was California League Player of the Week for 8/9-8/15...in 10 playoff games hit .351 (7rbi, 8r) to help lead Modesto to the title.
2003
Combined to hit .233 at Class A Modesto and Kane County...made 73 apps in CF, 6 apps in RF and 3 apps in LF...on 7/28 went on Kane County's disabled list with a broken right index finger and missed the rest of the season.
2002
In his professional debut appeared in 4g for the Athletics' Arizona Rookie League affiliate and hit .227 with 10 homers at Class A Visalia...had 17 stolen bases at the 2 stops...made 27 apps in CF and 24 apps in LF...in May and June spent time on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder.
