Shane Kenji Komine...name is pronounced ko-MEE-nay was signed by A's scout Jim Pransky...graduated from Kalani (Honolulu, HI) High School in 1998...attended the University of Nebraska where he was a three-time second team *Baseball America* All-America selection...was Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 1999 after going 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 78 innings...won back-to-back Big 12 Pitcher of the Year honors in 2000 and 2001...was 11-4 with a 2.24 ERA and 159 strikeouts in 125 innings in 2000...finished third in the nation in strikeouts...was 14-2 with a 3.35 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 132 innings in 2001...was fourth among NCAA Division 1 pitchers in strikeouts and tied for seventh in wins...went 10-0 with a 2.33 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 97 innings as a senior in 2002...left Nebraska as the career leader in wins (41) and strikeouts (510).

2007

Had two stints with Oakland and had no decisions and a 4.70 ERA in two relief appearances...was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento for the first time on June 18 but was sent back to Sacramento on June 21 without pitching...returned for a second time on July 3 and tossed 6.1 innings of relief on July 4 against Toronto (6 h, 4 r, 4 er, 1 bb, 1 so, 2 hr)...those were the most innings pitched by an A's reliever since Doug Johns pitched 6.2 innings on August 23, 1996 at New York...went 12 days until his next outing on July 17 against Texas (1.1 ip)...pitched to catcher Kurt Suzuki in the eighth inning of that game to become part of the first Hawaiian-born battery in Major League history...was optioned back to Sacramento on July 20...stranded all five of his inherited runners in his two relief appearances and allowed a .214 opponents batting average...right-handers were 3 for 19 (.158) and lefties were 3 for 9 (.333)...opponents were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and they are now 0 for 11 in his career...spent the balance of the season at Sacramento where he was 5-12 with a 4.87 ERA in 23 starts...led Sacramento in losses, games started and home runs allowed (21) and was second in innings pitched (133.0) and strikeouts (99)...had minor league career highs in losses, runs (76), earned runs (72), home runs and walks (46)...allowed a .280 opponents batting average, which broke down to .267 (78 for 292) against right-handed hitters and .298 (65 for 218) against left-handers...allowed 10 home runs against righties and 11 against lefties...opponents hit .287 with runners in scoring position, including .204 with RISP and two outs...was 5-4 with a 2.99 ERA and .244 opponents batting average in 12 starts at Sacramento's Raleys Field and 0-8 with a 7.34 ERA and .323 opponents batting average in 11 starts on the road...had 21 walks and 70 strikeouts in 75.1 innings at home and 25 walks and 29 strikeouts in 57.2 innings on the road...was 3-9 with a 5.38 ERA and .301 opponents batting average in 16 starts before the Triple-A All-Star Break and 2-3 with a 3.73 ERA and .229 opponents batting average in seven starts after the break...won one game in each of the first three months of the season and then went 0-2 in July...was 3-11 with a 5.42 ERA and the end of July and then went 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in five starts in August...Sacramento was 7-16 (.304) in his starting assignments...tossed six or more innings in 14 of his 23 starts, allowed two runs or fewer six times and walked two batters or fewer 14 times...won his second start of the season on April 12 against Portland, allowing just one hit in 6.0 shutout innings in a 3-1 River Cats win...then had a season long four-game losing streak and compiled a 6.86 ERA over his next seven starts from April 17 to May 19...allowed one run in 7.0 innings and struck out a season high nine for his second win on May 24 against Salt Lake...went 1-3 with a 5.32 ERA over his next four starts...including a loss on June 3 against Round Rock when he tossed a season high 8.0 innings...was 3- 8 with a 5.31 ERA in 14 starts when the A's called for the first time on June 18...had a loss and a 5.91 ERA in two starts during his second stint from June 23 to 28...then went 2-3 with a 3.73 ERA in seven starts after his final option from Oakland on July 20...matched his season high with nine strikeouts and tossed 7.0 shutout innings of one-hit ball in his final regular season start on August 29 against Colorado Springs...then went 1-0 with a 6.55 ERA (11.0 ip, 12 h, 8 r, 8 er, 3 bb, 7 so) in two postseason starts for the River Cats.

2006

Started the season in Triple-A Sacramento and made his Major League debut on July 30 against the Blue Jays. He gave up just one run and bettered Roy Halladay for six innings, but earned a no-decision in the A's 6-5 victory. He was optioned back to Sacramento a day after giving up four runs over three innings against the Rangers on Aug. 8. He became the third Hawaii-born player to play for the A's. In Sacramento, he led the team in starts (22) and innings (140), while ranking second in wins (11) and strikeouts (116). He went 11-7 with a 4.06 ERA in Sacramento. He put together an eight-game winning streak from June 25-Aug. 27.

2005

Began the season on the Disabled List as he continued to recover from "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow and missed the first three months of the season...made four rehab starts with the A's affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League, was reinstated from the DL on July 30 and made two starts for Single-A Stockton...was transferred to Double-A Midland on August 9 where he made five starts...combined at all three stops for a 2-2 record and a 4.47 ERA in 11 starts...struck out 55 batters in 48.1 innings, an average of 10.24 per nine innings...allowed a .257 opponents batting average which included .238 (20 for 84) by left-handed hitters and .273 (27 for 99) by right-handers...went 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA in his four starts on rehab with the Arizona A's...made his first start on July 8 against the Rangers and faced four batters (0.2 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 1 so)...pitched every fifth day and was reinstated from the DL on July 30...made two starts with Stockton and posted a 4.15 ERA without a decision...tossed 4.0 shutout innings at Modesto on July 30 and then allowed four runs in 4.2 innings on August 4 at Visalia...was transferred to Midland on August 9 and went 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA in five starts with the Rockhounds...tossed at least five innings in all five of his starts...picked up his first win of the season on August 20 against Springfield (6.0 ip, 4 h, 3 r, 3 er, 3 bb, 6 so)...struck out a season high 10 in 6.2 innings on August 26 against San Antonio but took the loss...tossed 7.0 shutout innings in his final regular season start on August 31 at Frisco and picked up the win (3 h, 2 bb, 4 so)...made two postseason starts for the Texas League Champion Rockhounds and was 1-1 with a 0.69 ERA (13.0 ip, 11 h, 4 r, 1 er, 6 bb, 7 so)...then pitched for the Arizona Fall League Champion Phoenix Desert Dogs and was 1-1 with a 1.14 ERA in five starts...allowed a .241 opponents batting average, no home runs, three walks and 18 strikeouts in 23.2 innings.

2004

Began the season with Double-A Midland but elbow problems ended his season in July...went 4-5 with a 4.77 ERA in 17 games, all starts, before he was placed on the Disabled List on July 11 with an inflamed right elbow...had "Tommy John" surgery on the elbow and missed the remainder of the season...opponents batted .281 which broke down to .294 (50 for 170) against right-handed hitters and .265 (53 for 200) against left-handers...opponents average dropped to .240 with runners in scoring position, including .195 with RISP and two outs...allowed 10 home runs which was a career high...was 0-3 despite a 3.53 ERA in seven starts on the road compared to 4-2 with a 5.82 ERA in 10 starts at home...tossed six or more innings in 10 of his 17 starting assignments, allowed two runs or fewer eight times and walked two batters or fewer 15 times...went 2-1 with a 3.45 ERA (18 er in 47.0 ip) over his first eight starts and 2-4 with a 6.08 ERA (32 er in 47.1 ip) over his last nine starts...his shortest outing of the season came in his second start, a loss on April 14 against Round Rock when he allowed six runs on six hits and two walks in 0.1 innings...put together consecutive wins for the only time on April 29 against Arkansas and May 4 against Frisco...tossed a season high tying 7.1 innings in consecutive starts on May 10 at Frisco (4 h, 2 r) and May 15 against Round Rock (6 h, 1 r), but ended up with a no decision each time...compiled his best ERA in May when he went 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA in six starts...struck out a season high 10 in 6.0 innings in a no decision on June 5 against Wichita...lasted just 2.0 innings (2 h, 2 r, 2 er, 2 bb, 3 so) in his final outing on July 5 against Tulsa.

2003

Began the season with Single-A Kane County but was transferred to Double-A Midland in the middle of May...combined for a 10-6 record and a 3.08 ERA in 27 games, 26 starts...had career highs in virtually every category as the 2003 season is his only full professional season...ranked fourth in the A's farm system in strikeouts (125) and was fifth in ERA...allowed a .255 opponents batting average which included a .239 (83 for 348) mark against right-handed hitters and .277 (70 for 253) against left-handers...allowed six of his seven home runs against left-handed hitters...allowed an average of one home run every 22.5 innings...his opponents average dropped to .250 (36 for 144) with runners in scoring position, including .203 (14 for 69) with RISP and two outs...tossed six or more innings in 18 of his 26 starts, allowed two runs or fewer 16 times and walked two batters or fewer 21 times...was a perfect 6-0 with a 1.82 ERA in eight starts with Kane County...did not allow a run in four of his eight starting assignments...was named Kane County Pitcher of the Week for the first week of the season as he won each of his first two starts without allowing a run (12.1 ip, 7 h, 2 bb, 16 so)...tossed a complete game four-hit shutout in his final Single-A start on May 14 against West Michigan...was transferred to Midland on May 19 and extended his season opening winning streak to seven games by tossing 6.2 shutout innings on May 25 at El Paso...ended up posting a 4-6 record and a 3.75 ERA in 19 games, 18 starts with Midland...tossed a one-hit shutout on June 4 at Wichita (1 bb, 7 so) in a 2-0 win to earn Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors...allowed 14 runs, 13 earned, on 10 hits and five walks in 2.1 innings in a loss in the first game of a doubleheader on August 16 at Arkansas...had a 2.67 ERA in his other 18 outings with Midland...his last outing on August 25 against Arkansas came in relief (1.0 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 so).

2002

Began his professional career at Single-A Visalia and was 1-3 with a 5.96 ERA in 18 appearances, all in relief...allowed a .240 opponents batting average which broke down to .167 (4 for 24) against left-handers and .264 (19 for 72) against right-handers...opponents hit .222 (6 for 27) with runners in scoring position, including .091 (1 for 11) with RISP and two outs...tossed at least one inning in 17 of his 18 outings, including two or more seven times...season high was 2.1 innings twice, including August 13 at High Desert when he allowed a season high four runs...picked up his first professional win in his last outing on September 2 against Bakersfield (1.0 ip, 1 h, 1 bb, 1 so)...did not appear in any post-season games for the Oaks.
