Was an invite to Pirates spring training and was reassigned to minor league camp... Began the season with Triple-A Indianapolis... Posted monthly ERA's of 1.99 (22.2 IP, 5 ER) in April; 1.65 (32.2 IP, 6 ER) in June; 1.00 (27.0 IP, 3 ER) in July; and 2.11 (21.1 IP, 5 ER) in August... Had contract purchased by Pittsburgh August 18 and made major league debut that same day, pitching 6.0 innings of relief vs. Arizona; allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts...was issued the loss as the game lasted 16 innings... Optioned back to Indianapolis August 19... Went 10-3, 2.16 ERA (125.0 IP, 30 ER) in 21 starts for Indianapolis and 0-1, 5.06 ERA (10.2 IP, 6 ER) in five relief appearances... Led the International League in ERA (2.39), fourth in WHIP (1.17) and tied for seventh in wins (10)... Recalled by Pittsburgh September 1... Made three appearances for the Pirates in September, allowing five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched...
