Case High School (WI) where he was tabbed by Baseball America as the best senior prospect in the state of Wisconsin...was a four-year letterwinner and earned all-state, all-district and allconference honors as a senior. ... Was drafted by Philadelphia in the 39th round of the June 2001 draft but did not sign, opting to attend Oklahoma State University. ... Attended OK State from 2002-2004, hitting .359 with 38 doubles, 20 homers and 116 RBI during his collegiate career...in 2004 he was named to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List after hitting .350 with eight homers and leading the Cowboys to a College World Series appearance...was named a third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and was a Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist in 2003. ... Was once again selected by the Phillies, this time in the second round of the June 2004 draft...was signed by Philadelphia scout Paul Scott. ... Jason was a member of Pittsburgh's Opening Day roster for the third-straight season...in two stints with the Pirates, hit .326 (14-for-43) with six RBI in 23 games...Hit safely in his four starts (.357/5-for-14) before being optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, April 13...Batted .276 (37-for-134) with 17 walks, seven doubles, two homers and 23 RBI in 46 games with the Indians...Produced a .340 batting average (16-for-47) against southpaws and a .241 mark (21-for-87) against right-handed pitchers with Indianapolis...Hit .260 with 14 RBI in 25 games with Indianapolis before going on the seven-day D.L. with a sprained right elbow, May 28. Went 5-for-26 (.192) in seven games with the GCL Pirates during his rehab assignment, July 11-18...Was reinstated from the disabled list July 19 and went 2-for-3 with two RBI in his first game back with the Indians July 20...Rejoined the Pirates, September 1, batting .310 (9-for-29) with three doubles and five RBI in his final 19 games (four starts) of the season.
