Joe Richard Bisenius...last name is pronounced "Beh-SEN-ius"...graduated from Heelan Catholic (IA) HS...attended Iowa Western CC and Oklahoma City University...played semi-pro ball for Duluth Huskies (MN) in 2003.

2010

Returned to big leagues for first time since '07...signed with Nationals on May 10 and after 3 stops, was up in Sept.

2009

Pitched at 4 levels in PHI system...finished 0-3 with 8.10 ERA in 20 games/one start.

2008

Began the season with Lehigh Valley (AAA) and made 3 appearances before being placed on the DL (right turf toe)...Was activated on 5/1 and assigned to Reading (AA) ...Was recalled on 7/13 and did not make an appearance before being optioned back to Lehigh Valley on 7/19...Eleven of his 28 appearances with Reading were 2.0 innings or more; had a 2.70 ERA (7 ER, 23.1 IP) in those games...Had a 0.80 ERA (3 ER, 33.2 IP) in 23 of his 28 appearances with Reading; had a 14.04 ERA (13 ER, 8.1 IP) in the other 5...Had a season-high 4 SO twice, 7/1 vs New Britain (1.1 IP) and 8/20 at Buffalo (2.1 IP)...Held double-A hitters to a .228 avg; left-handers, .218 and right-handers, .233...Spent July and August with Lehigh Valley before finishing the season with Reading.

Made the Phillies Opening Day roster and had his contract purchased on 4/2... Made 2 scoreless appearances before being optioned to Ottawa (AAA) on 4/9... Allowed 5 ER in 2.1 IP (19.29 ERA) in his first 2 appearances before pitching a 13.2-inning scoreless streak, 4/17-5/11... Followed that with a 15.43 ERA (12 ER, 7.0 IP) in his next 6 games... Was on the DL with right shoulder inflammation, 6/7-7/17... Posted a 0.84 ERA (1 ER, 10.2 IP) in his final 7 appearances with 15 SO (12.66 SO/9.0 IP).

2006

Began the season with Clearwater (A) and made 35 relief appearances...Went 2-0, 0.93 ERA in 10 May appearances...Held opposing hitters to a .216 avg...Selected to the Florida State League midseason All-Star team...Promoted to Reading (AA) on 7/23, where he finished the season...Tied his season high with 4 SO in his double-A debut, 7/24 at Portland (2.2 IP)...Appeared in 16 games and held left-handers to a .140 avg...Participated in both the Arizona Fall League and Venezuelan Winter League.

2005

Played entire seasons with Lakewood in Single-A South Atlantic League...saw majority of action as reliever.

2004

Made 11 starts in pro debut with Batavia of short-season Single-A New York-Penn League.
