Full name is Jason Michael Hirsh... married wife, Pamela, in November 2007... attended Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where he earned all-conference and all-region honors... went to St. Francis High School in La Canada, Calif... younger brother, Matthew, was selected by the Astros in the 30th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft... Jason was originally selected as the Astros first pick (second round) in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.
2009
Combined to go 10-7 with a 5.55 ERA in 26 appearances (22 starts) with Triple-A Colorado Springs and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre... began the season with Colorado Springs, going 6-7 with a 6.66 ERA (101.1IP, 75ER) in 20 appearances (16 starts) before a mid-season trade to the Yankees on 7/29... went undefeated in six starts with Scranton/WB, going 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA (26.2IP, 4ER)... made his final start of the season on 9/5 at Rochester, facing only two batters before suffering an injury fielding a ball in the first inning (0.1IP, 1H)... was placed on the disabled list on 9/6 through the end of the season with plantar fasciitis of his right heel.

Hardy, the second batter of the game, in that start...he remained in the game to earn the win, but X-rays the next day revealed a fractured right fibula...was officially placed on the DL again Aug. 9 (retroactive to Aug. 8)...was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sept. 4, ending his season.
2006
Hirsh made his Major League debut after getting called to the big leagues in August, going 3-4 with a 6.04 ERA (44.2 ip, 30 er) in nine starts for Houston...began the season and spent most of the year with Triple-A Round Rock, going 13-2, 2.10 (137.1 ip, 32 er) in 23 games/starts for the Express...was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year, among several other honors...combined to post career-high 16 wins in 32 starts at the two levels...with Houston, opposing batters hit .267 (48-for-180)...Astros went 5-4 in his nine big league starts...went 1-2, 4.21 (25.2 ip, 12 er) over 5 starts in September...tossed 2.0 shutout innings in his last Triple-A start on Aug. 8 at Salt Lake and was recalled by Houston on Aug. 12...made ML debut in start at home that night vs. San Diego, allowing four runs in 4.0 innings...after tossing 3.0 scoreless innings, gave up three home runs in the fourth inning of that initial outing, taking the loss...earned first win in next start, Aug. 17 at Milwaukee, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings...earned win Aug. 27 at Pittsburgh, allowing one run in career-high 7.0 innings...that outing began a stretch of four straight quality starts...took no decision in final start Sept. 27 at Pittsburgh, allowing three runs in 3.0 innings...that game would result in a 15-inning, 7-6 victory for Houston, win which pulled the Astros to within 1.5 games of St. Louis...it was one of three games of 15+ innings for Houston in '06, two of which came at PNC Park...led the PCL with a 2.10 ERA and tied for league lead with 13 wins...surrendered just five home runs as team went 19-4 in his starts...his 2.10 ERA was the lowest in the PCL in over 20 years, since former first round pick Chris Codiroli posted a 1.90 ERA for Tacoma, Oakland's Triple-A affiliate, in 1982...in fact, in the last 47 PCL seasons beginning 1960, just a pair of pitchers have posted lower ERA's than Hirsh: Codiroli and Peter Mikkelson, who had a 1.91 figure in 1968 for Tulsa...compiled a Houston franchise-record 12-game winning streak to end his stint in the PCL...had a 1.19 ERA (113.2 ip, 15 er) over final 18 starts beginning May 3 vs. Oklahoma, when he tossed 8.0 shutout innings...included in the streak was a club-record 46.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run from June 13-July 27...his last PCL defeat came April 27 at Omaha...tossed complete game shutout in seven-inning contest June 18 vs. New Orleans...registered career-high 12 K's on June 24 vs. Nashville...named the starting pitcher for U.S. Team at 2006 MLB Futures Game on July 9 in Pittsburgh...tossed 1.0 scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout...would later make two of his nine big league starts at PNC Park...also named a Triple-A All-Star...pitched 1.0 inning of relief for the PCL squad at the game vs. International League on July 12 in Toledo...rated as the Astros top prospect by
Baseball America
heading into the 2006 season...also listed with "Best Control" both in PCL and in Houston organization...was named by same publication as PCL Pitcher of the Year and as Class AAA All-Star.

Named the Texas League Pitcher of the Year with Double A Corpus Christi after finishing with a team-leading 13 wins...led the league with 165 strikeouts while ranking second in ERA (2.87) and innings (172.1)...earned TL postseason All-Star honors...tossed two innings of perfect relief to help the West defeat the East in the Texas League All-Star Game in June...earned team MVP honors with the Hooks...named the TL pitcher of the week three times (4/18-24, 6/20-26, 7/1117)...struck out a career-high 11 batters in his first career shutout on July 11 at Whataburger Field vs. Springfield...did not lose a game after July 22 and went 5-0 over his final nine starts with a 2.06 ERA...named Hooks Pitcher of the Month for July...went 4-0 in April with a 1.71 ERA over five starts and earned Corpus Christi Pitcher of the Month honors.
