Luis spent his first full season at the big league level and set career highs in every pitching category...proved to be one of the Royals most consistent starters after re-joining the rotation for good on June 12...Was 6-7 with a 3.83 ERA in 20 starts beginning on June 12 thru the end of the season with the Royals going 11-9 in those contests...included 13 quality starts...Carried a no-no thru 6.0 innings in his June 12th return as a starter vs. Milwaukee, before allowing a hit to open the seventh...In his final 7 losses of the season, the Royals plated a total of 11 runs...Allowed just 15 home runs in 166.0 innings, tied for the fifth-fewest homers in the A.L. among pitchers with at least 160 innings...Following the season, led Obregon of the Mexican Winter League to the Caribbean World Series title...named MVP of the series, combining to toss 13.1 scoreless innings over two starts, including taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning on February 6 vs. Puerto Rico.

The Omaha (AAA) Pitcher of the Year made two starts in September for the Royals, winning both. ... His 10-2 victory on September 20 vs. Detroit was his first big league win since August 3, 2008 vs. Toronto as a member of the Rangers. ... Named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year, a part of the 12-member All-PCL Team following the season, a PCL All-Star and the PCL Playoff MVP. ... His 2.18 ERA led the PCL and was eight-best in all on minor league baseball in full-season leagues. ... Posted ERAs of 1.05, 1.54 and 1.59 in the final three months of the regular season for Omaha and then was 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two starts in the playoffs, both coming in the first game of series.

Acquired by the Royals at the tail end of spring training, Mendoza opened the season with the Royals in the bullpen...he struggled in 4 relief stints before being designated for assignment on April 23 and assigned outright to Omaha (AAA) on April 28...Spent the remainder of the campaign in the starting rotation at Omaha...went a perfect 5-0 in 6 August outings (5 starts), posting a 2.25 ERA.
2009
After seeing action in 25 games over 3 stints with the Rangers in 2008, Mendoza made just one appearance in 2009...was recalled from Oklahoma City (AAA) on April 23...only action was relief outing on May 2 vs. Chicago-AL...allowed 2 hits and 4 runs, including a grand slam to A.J. Pierzynski, in 1.0 inning with one walk...was optioned to the RedHawks on May 5.
2008
Right-hander shuffled between rotation and bullpen during 3 stints with club after winning final starter spot out of spring training... went 3-8, 8.67 (61 ER/63.1 IP) over 25 games/11 starts with Rangers...trio of stints came from the start-of-season to June 8, June 20-August 14, and August 29 through end-of-season...his 8.67 ERA currently ranks 9th-highest in the modern era for a single season among pitchers with at least 63.0 innings pitched...opposition hit .343 (97-283)...was 2-6, 9.40 (47 ER/45.0 IP) over 11 starts and 1-2, 6.87 (14 ER/18.1 IP) with one save in 14 appearances out of the bullpen...went 2-4, 8.90 (31 ER/31.1 IP) in 13 games/5 starts at Rangers Ballpark, while going 1-4, 8.44 (30 ER/32.0 IP) with one save in 12 games/6 starts on the road.

Split the season between 3 different teams, Wilmington (A), Portland (AA) and Frisco...combined to go 8-13, 5.36 (89 ER/149.1 IP) with 96 strikeouts and 39 walks over 29 games/starts...began at Wilmington and did not allow more than 3 runs in any of his games with the Blue Rocks, totaling 4 quality starts...promoted to Portland and went 0-1, 5.01 (13 ER/23.1 IP) over 4 June starts...traded to the Rangers on July 30 for RHP Bryan Corey...earned the win in his Frisco debut, allowing 2 runs off 8 hits in 5.0 innings.

Split the season between Wilmington in the Boston organization and Lake Elsinore (High-A) with San Diego...had 2 stints with Wilmington...went 3-4, 5.63 (53 ER/84.2 IP) over 16 games/15 starts with the Blue Rocks...went 2-2, 2.58 during the month of May...acquired by San Diego on a waiver claim on July 8 and started 2 games before being designated for assignment...was reclaimed by Red Sox and spent the remainder of the season at Wilmington...went 1-5, 8.05 (31 ER/34.2 IP) in 7 starts.

Started 25 games for Single-A Sarasota in his first season as a full-time starter, finishing 8-7 with a 3.74 ERA a year after appearing in only 15 games (13 starts) with Single-A Augusta...ranked 8th among Florida State League pitchers with 137.0 innings pitched after tossing a combined 122.1 innings in 2002 and 2003...finished 12th in the league in ERA, and was one of only 14 FSL pitchers with an ERA under 4.00...fell victim to a team-high 19 unearned runs...went 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA (5 ER/ 17.1 IP) over his first 3 starts before struggling to an 0-5 mark with a 4.43 ERA (21 ER/ 42.2 IP) in his next 8 starts from April 27-June 4...was unbeaten his next 8 times out June 9-July 21, going 4-0 with a 2.70 ERA (14 ER/46.2 IP)...recorded back-to-back 7.0-inning efforts against Fort Myers July 4 and July 9 in which he earned a win, allowing just 2 unearned runs on 6 hits.
