Lance Robert Cormier...resides in Tuscaloosa, AL with his wife, Jamie, and son, Lance Jr. (L.J.)...attended the University of Alabama, leaving as one of the top hurlers in program history while also securing his degree in finance...was a four-year letter winner at Alabama, going 31-16 with 17 saves and a 3.98 ERA...set an Alabama freshman record with an SEC-leading 11 saves...honored as a First Team Academic All-American during his senior season...in 2008, joined former Dodger Paul Bako as the only players to have their jerseys retired at Lafayette (LA) High School...played first and third base in high school and also played basketball as a freshman...assists "Baseball Country, " a nonprofit, Christian-based organization which holds baseball camps during the day and Bible study at night...his uncle, Garrett O'Connor, pitched with the Yankee organization in 1985...signed by Arizona scout Mike Valarezo.

Lance began the season with El Paso (AA) and by June was pitching in the big leagues...his year began where he finished up the 2003 season, appearing 10 times for the Diablos, including 8 starts, going 2-3 with a 2.29 ERA, giving up 2 or fewer earned runs in 8 of those outings...the 2-3 record was more a result of El Paso's inability to score runs as the offense plated 3 or fewer tallies in 7 of his appearances, including his last 5...his best AA outing was on May 6 at Frisco, allowing only 2 hits over 7.0 innings with 10 K's, a no decision that eventually ended up a 3-2 El Paso loss...Cormier was promoted to Tucson (AAA) at the end of May, going 1-1 with a sparkling 1.77 ERA in 3 starts...he was summoned to the majors on June 18 when Jose Valverde was disabled, barely 2 years after Cormier's selection in the fourth round of the 2002 draft...he did not have to wait long before making his big league debut, taking the hill for a start against Tampa Bay on June 19, dropping an 11-4 decision to the Devil Rays, allowing 7 runs on 5 hits over 1.1 innings...he was optioned back to Tucson following that assignment, but did not let the outing bother him as Lance earned the organization's minor league Pitcher-of-the- Month honor for June, going 1-0 with a 0.44 ERA in 3 starts for Tucson (1 run in 20.2 innings) with 18 strikeouts...overall, he went 2-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 5 minor league starts following his return to Tucson, earning him a second opportunity to pitch for the big league club...he recorded his first big league triumph on July 29 in Houston, doing so in front of several family members and friends who made the trek from his home state of Louisiana...a 6-4 winner, Lance went 6.0 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) with a walk and 5 K's, while also collecting his first Major League hit, a sixth-inning single off of Tim Redding...after dropping his next 2 starts, Cormier was moved to the bullpen, appearing 12 times over the final 6 weeks...his best relief work was over 5 outings from August 29-September 11, yielding a run over 6.0 frames with opponents batting only .136 (3-for-22)...Lance "drove" in his first run with a bases loaded walk vs. Colorado on July 24.
