Germano was acquired in the July 23 trade that sent Joe Randa to the Padres. Began the season with the Padres' Class AAA Portland affiliate and went 7-6, 3.70 in 19 starts before he was traded to the Reds on 7/23...was assigned to Class AAA Louisville...won 6 of his last 7 decisions for Portland...at the time of the trade ranked among the PCL pitching leaders in strikeouts (100, 3rd) and ERA (3.70, 9th)...in his final start for Portland, on 7/19, threw a 4-hit complete game in a 2-0 victory vs Sacramento and was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week...made his last 8 starts of the season for the Bats and went 3-2, 4.01 with 5 quality starts.

2004 SUMMARY: Started the season with Double-A Mobile where he posted a 2-1 record with a 2.51 ERA (9 ER/32.1 IP) over five starts... in his last two starts at Mobile allowed just one earned run in 14.1 innings (0.63 ERA)... earned a promotion to Triple-A Portland where he spent the majority of the season... made his first start with the Beavers May 6 tossing 6.0 innings allowing one run... made two more starts with the Beavers before being recalled by the Padres on May 18... started three games for the Padres going 1-1 with a 6.59 ERA (10 ER/13.2 IP) before being optioned back to Portland June 7... stayed at Portland making a total of 20 starts going 9-5 with a 3.38 ERA before rejoining the Padres in September.

BIG LEAGUER: Made his Major League debut May 22 at Philadelphia and earned the victory having tossed 5.0 innings... made his fourth start for the Padres in his second stint with the club September 9 at Colorado, lasted 4.0 innings allowing four runs but was not figured in the decision... made a total of seven appearances (five starts) posting a 1-2 record with a 8.86 ERA... the Padres went 2-3 in his five starts.

WITH THE BEAVERS: Made 20 starts for the Beavers earning nine wins, second most on the club (Brian Sweeney, 11)... tossed a total of 122.2 innings also ranking second on the Beavers staff (Sweeney, 138.2)... won six consecutive decisions from July 15-August 16, including tossing back-to-back complete game shutouts July 15 and 20... during the span he posted a 2.13 ERA (12 ER/50.2 IP).

AWARDS AND HONORS: Earned Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks from July 15-July 25... earned the first title July 15-18 after tossing the Beavers first-ever complete-game shutout, a 6-0 victory over Las Vegas... during the period from July 19-25 he posted his second consecutive complete-game shutout in Portland's 10-0 victory over Tacoma on July 20... he took a 23.0-inning scoreless streak into his next start on July 25, and picked up his third victory in a row by allowing two runs on five hits in 8.0 innings of work in a 6-4 victory at Salt Lake... for the week, he went 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA (2 ER /17.0 IP)... his 3.38 ERA with the Beavers ranked third in the PCL, while his two shutouts tied for first.
