Spent the majority of the season with Single-A Tampa, going 4-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 16 starts...was placed on the disabled list from 4/3-5/1 with a left elbow strain and again from 6/12-7/19 with a left shoulder strain...made two rehab starts with Rookie-League Tampa, going 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA.

2002

Missed the entire season with left elbow surgery...despite the season-long injury, was ranked as the #10 prospect in the Yankees' organization by Baseball America .

In his first professional season made nine appearances (eight starts) with Single-A Staten Island, going 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA (42.0 IP, 26 H, 14 ER, 15 BB, 49 K).
