Resides in Mt. Warren Park, Australia...Scouted by Phil Dale and originally signed by Bob Wadsworth...Graduated in 1999 from Beenleigh State High School in Brisbane, Australia...He was a member of Australia's Shadow Squad that participated in qualifiers for the 2004 Olympics...Was member of the Queensland Rams of the International Baseball League of Australia; helped lead the squad to the Claxton Shield Championship in 2003...He was also on the IBLA International team that won the 2000-01 Claxton Shield Championship.
2007
Opened the season on the Richmond (AAA) disabled list (left hamstring). Activated off the disabled list 4/16 and had three consecutive 2.0-inning scoreless outings to start the year before going back on the DL on 4/24 for his hamstring again. Returned from the DL 5/12 and returned again to the DL on 5/21. Included a rehabilitation assignment with the GCL Braves where he pitched in three games (0-0, 7.20 ERA, 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). Was activated off the disabled list on 7/12 and assigned to Mississippi (AA). With the M-Braves, he was 1-0 with three saves and 0.59 ERA (1 ER/15.1 IP). Right-handed hitters went 1-for-30 (.033). Promoted back to Richmond on 8/25 and finished the season with a 1.29 ERA (1 ER/7.0 IP) over his last four appearances. Held Triple-A hitters to a .132 average. Right-handed hitters hit just .069 (2-for-29) and lefties hit .208. Earned the series clenching win in Game 3 of the first round of the International League playoffs vs. SWB with a scoreless 1.1 IP. Went 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA in four playoff appearances.

Contract was purchased from Richmond (AAA) on 6/14 in place of RHP Chris Reitsma (15-day DL)...Made his Major League debut 6/15 at FLA, throwing a scoreless eighth inning (1.0 IP, 1 H)...Threw a scoreless sixth inning on 6/17, including his first two career strikeouts (Beckett and Loretta)...Worked his last nine Triple-A appearances (18 innings) without allowing a run while allowing just four hits...He opened the year at Mississippi (AA) and was promoted to Richmond on 4/17...Opened the year with 18 straight scoreless IP. Allowed runs in just one of his 16 outings with Richmond...Pitched in one game in the WBC for Australia (1 IP, 1 K). Was one of three WBC Australian pitchers to see action with Richmond (joining Damian Moss and Peter Moylan) this season...Came to the Braves from the Arizona Diamondbacks as a minor-league free agent. Worked mostly as a starter from 2001-2004 and primarily in relief in 2005.

Phil made 26 starts for El Paso (AA) with a pair of mid-season appearances in Tucson (AAA) and capped the year with a Texas League Post-Season All-Star team selection...his 151 strikeouts were tops among Arizona farmhands...he was among the T.L. pitching leaders, ranking third in strikeouts (146), and strikeouts per 9-inning ratio (8.90), while his 3.96 ERA was good for 12th...he held opposing hitters to a combined .245 average (145-for-592), including a .214 clip (60-for- 281) on the road and a .214 average (63-for-295) against righties...he allowed 3 runs or less in 20 of 27 assignments, including 5 starts in which he did not yield a run...after allowing 8 runs in 2.0 innings in his first start on April 6 at San Antonio, he surrendered only 4 runs (3 earned) in 17.2 innings (1.53 ERA) during a 3-game winning streak from April 11-22...he suffered a pair of setbacks to open May before going on a 13-game tear for the Diablos during which he was 7-1 with a 1.92 ERA (28 earned runs in 131.0 innings)...he allowed a run and a hit in 6.1 innings with 10 strikeouts in a 7-3 win on May 13 at Midland...he struck out 10 in his next start on May 18 at San Antonio...he had a quick jaunt to Tucson from June 3-8 in which he took the loss after allowing a run in 3.0 innings of relief work on June 3 against Salt Lake, but bounced back with 6.0 shutout innings of 4-hit ball on June 7 at Portland in a 1-0 victory...upon returning to El Paso, he tossed 7.0 scoreless frames against Tulsa on June 12...Phil posted wins on June 25 at Wichita, allowing a run on 4 hits in 6.0 innings, and June 30 at Tulsa, tossing 6.0 shutout frames and giving up only 1 hit...he fanned 10 batters in a 3-0 loss on July 5 at San Antonio... he won his next 3 starts from July 11-21, starting with a 6-4 win against Midland...he was even sharper his next 2 times out, tossing 7.0 shutout innings on July 16 vs. Tulsa, then 6.0 scoreless frames on July 21 vs. Wichita...Phil was named the organizational co-Pitcher-of-the-Month for July (with South Bend's Jared Doyle) after going 3-2 with a 1.48 ERA and a .224 opponents average...he struck out a career-high 11 batters on August 7 against San Antonio.
2002
2002-Phil held the opposition to a .232 average (91-for-393), while righthanded batters were limited to a .217 mark (61-for-281)...he notched the victory on August 9 vs. Rancho Cucamonga, tossing 8.0 shutout innings in his longest outing of the season for Lancaster (A)...he fanned a season-high 10 batters on June 4 at Mudville...he then matched that total on August 9 vs. Rancho Cucamonga.
