Performed well after being acquired from CIN on July 13 as part of an 8-player trade with CIN...the least heralded of
the 3 players acquired from CIN, however, proved worth, posting a 3-3 record, 3 holds and a 4.70 ERA (16 ER/30.2
IP) in 26 games out of the bullpen...after the trade, reported to Triple-A New Orleans...in 5 PCL appearances with the
Zephyrs from July 17-29, scattered 4 hits in 8.0 scoreless innings to earn promotion to the Nationals...was recalled on
July 31 and made debut with the Nationals that night at SFG, earning a hold...after struggling in first 2 appearances,
posted a fine 3.54 ERA in final 24 appearances with Washington...suffered 2 blown saves, both of which came during
the season's final homestand...capped the season not allowing a home run since August 14 vs. ATL (24 appearances
or 24.2 innings ago)...worked 13.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, August 19-September 7...when appearing, the Nationals went 10-16...was the victim of 5 unearned runs.
Game-By-Game Highlights: Fanned 3 in 2.0 scoreless innings, August 25 at ATL, and pocketed first win as a National (and first at the big league level since July 4, 2005 at SFG)...worked a season-high 2.1 innings on August 19
at PHI and did not allow a run.
In minor leagues: Pitching for Triple-A New Orleans of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, worked 8.0 scoreless
innings in final 5 appearances to earn first promotion to Washington...allowed only 4 hits and a walk in those 8.0 scoreless innings...was 1-3 with a 6.34 ERA in 35 games out of the bullpen for Louisville of the Triple-A International League upon being acquired by the Nationals.
2005
Wagner missed the second half of the season with inflammation in his right shoulder. He was sent to Sarasota, Fla., to pitch in the Instructional League on Sept. 23. He posted a 3.65 ERA in April, a 3.45 ERA in May and a 10.19 ERA over his last 16 appearances of the season, beginning June 3.

9/21-9/23 was on the bereavement list while attending
the funeral of his grandfather...after he returned from the bereavement list made a pair of apps, on 9/24 and 9/25 at
Pit (1.1ip, 5h, 3er), then didn't pitch again the rest of the season because of flexor pronator tendinitis in his right
forearm...began the season in Cin and went 2-1, 6.75 in 18g before he was optioned to Louisville on 5/30...in 15g for
the Bats went 1-0-1, 2.70 before he was recalled again on 7/4, when Mike Matthews went on the disabled list...spent
the rest of the season with the Reds and posted a 3.89era during that second stint...in his last 26 apps of the season
posted a 2.70era, lowering overall ERA from 7.48 and including a 10-appearance scoreless streak from 8/11-8/29
(14ip)...in the 5-2 Bats victory on 6/9 at Pawtucket picked up his first professional save.
2003
Didn't pitch after 9/1...had thrown 115 innings since January, including the collegiate and minor
league seasons... after he was the Reds' No. 1 pick in the June draft made just 9 minor league apps before he was
promoted to the majors on 7/19...that afternoon vs Hou made his Major League debut and retired all 5 batters faced
(1k)...first Major League strikeout victim was Brian Hunter...turned 21 years old just 4 days prior to his ML debut...became
the youngest pitcher to appear for the Reds since LHP Rosario Rodriguez debuted in 1989 at 20 years, 55 days and
the youngest righthander since Manny Sarmiento debuted in 1976 at 20 years, 179 days...didn't allow a run in his first
5 apps (6ip), retiring 18 of his first 19 Major League hitters, and finished the season with 8 scoreless apps
(10.2ip)...National League opponents hit just .173 (13-75)...in the 5-4 win on 8/2 vs SF earned his first career victory
despite suffering a blown save after he allowed solo HR to Benito Santiago and Andres Galarraga...were the only
homers he allowed all season and was his only save opportunity...earned his other victory in the 10-inning, 9-7 win on
8/15 vs Hou...retired the first batter 13-17 times (76%)...stranded 6-11 inherited runners (.545)...5 times threw 2.0
innings...was drafted on 6/3 and 10 days later signed his first professional contract.
