Fernando Jose Cabrera attended Discipulos De Cristo High School in Puerto Rico...Played basketball and volleyball in high school and still plays volleyball in the offseason.

Over the final 22 games of the year, from July 7-September 4, he compiled a 1-1 record with seven saves and a 1.85 ERA (five earned runs/24.1 innings) with Sacramento (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League...In 24.1 innings, he gave up 17 hits, six runs, five earned, with five walks and 23 strikeouts...Posted superb ERA's in three separate months: May (1.06, two earned runs/17.0 innings, 12 games); June (1.69, two earned runs/10.2 innings, nine games) and August (1.38, two earned runs/13.0 innings, 12 games)...For the season, opponents hit .216 (49-227) against him...Righthanded batters compiled a .196 (27-138) batting average...Worked a season-best 2.1 innings vs. Oklahoma City on May 21...Pitched 2.0 innings on nine other occasions...Struck out four batters in a game three times...Picked up a save in four straight appearances, July 29-August 5...Converted nine of 12 save opportunities.

Spent the entire season at Triple-A Pawtucket with the exception of a one-game stint with Boston...was selected by the Red Sox July 16 and pitched that day against the Rangers (1.1 ip, 2 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 0 so, 1 hr, 20.25 ERA)...was designated for assignment the next day and was sent outright to Pawtucket July 24...was 2-5 with 22 saves and a 3.86 ERA in 54 relief appearances with Pawtucket...the saves led the Red Sox farm system for the second consecutive year and matched his professional best from 2009... led the team in saves and tied for the team lead in appearances...struck out 76 in 60.2 innings for an average of 11.27 strikeout per nine innings...that was the third best mark among International League relievers...allowed a .277 opponents batting average, including .229 (30 for 131) against right-handed hitters and .340 (34 for 100) against left-handers...opponents hit .209 with runners in scoring position, including .188 with RISP and two outs...converted 22 of 26 (84.6%) save opportunities and allowed 6 of 16 (37.5%) inherited runners to score...tossed at least one inning in 48 of his 54 outings, including a season high 2.0 innings eight times...posted a 2.70 ERA with a win and a save in four relief appearances for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League following the season...also had no decisions and a 3.38 ERA in three postseason starts.

Had 22 outings with the Orioles but began the season on rehab with Triple-A Norfolk while recovering from right elbow surgery...Rehabbed with Triple-A Norfolk from 5/29-6/24...Activated from the DL on 6/26 and began the season without allowing a run in his 1st 7 Big League outings, a span of 9.1 innings...Won consecutive appearances on 8/14 at CLE and 8/17 at DET...Owned a 3.96 ERA (11 ER/25.0 IP) in his 1st 20 games before allowing 7 total runs (6 ER) in 3.1 innings over his final 2 games of the year...Released by Baltimore on 9/5.
2007
Signed to a minor league contract by the Orioles on August 21 after being designated for assignment on August 1 by Cleveland and released...Began the season with Cleveland, pitching in 24 games and going 1-2 with a 5.61 ERA (33.2IP, 22R/21ER)...Did not allow a run in his first 5 appearances (10.2IP), then allowed 14 ER in 10 games (10.2IP) from April 28 through June 1...Allowed one run over his next 6 appearances, June 3-July 1 (9.0IP), but gave up 6 ER in 3.1 IP over his final 3 games before being released...Was assigned to AAA Norfolk after signing with the Orioles and pitched in 3 games for the Tides, allowing one earned run in 3.0 innings of work...Joined the Orioles on September 4 when his contract was selected from AAA Norfolk...Made his Orioles' debut that night at Tampa Bay, allowing a grand slam to Carlos Pena...Retired only one of 6 batters and allowed 5 runs over 2 appearances from September 11-12 vs. the Los Angeles Angels...Earned his first major league save on September 16 at Toronto with a perfect 12th inning...Gave up four runs in 0.1 innings at New York on September 18...Allowed runs in 5 of his 9 Orioles appearances...Allowed the 4th highest opponents' slugging percentage (.523) and 9th highest opponents' on-base percentage (.391) among AL relievers.
2006
Cabrera's up-and-down season got off to a rocky start that included a two-week stint on the disabled list in April. He ended up leading the Indians with 51 appearances, with 30 of those scoreless. His ERA after his activation from the DL was 4.18, and he pitched 11 2/3 scoreless innings from Aug. 11-Sept. 2, but he allowed eight runs in his last eight games. Before the season, Cabrera pitched for his native Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.
2005
Young power arm split the season between AAA Buffalo and the Indians bullpen...At Buffalo he was 6-1 with 3 SV & a 1.23 ERA in 30 outings (51.1 IP, 36H, 8R/7ER, 11 BB, 68K)...Selected to Futures Game & AAA All-Star Game and limited Triple A hitters to a .196 average against (36-184)...Had a 25.1 scoreless IP streak at Buffalo from May 5-June 13 and from May 5 thru his remaining Buffalo outings his ERA was 0.86 (41.2IP, 24H, 4ER, 53K)...Right-handed Triple A hitters hit .180 (20-111) off him and limited hitters to a .125 (4-32) average with RISP and .145 mark (10-69) with runners on base. u Spent two stints in Cleveland from July 5-25 and then from August 5 thru the remainder of the season...In his first stint with Cleveland from July 5th to July 25th he was 0-0 w/a1.93 ERA (9.1P, 10H, 2R/ER, HR, 6BB, 9K) in 5 games...Optioned on July 26th...Tossed a career high 4.0IP & struck out a Tribe relief season-high 6 batters on August 12 vs. Tampa Bay...After August 5 recall he appeared in 10 games for Eric Wedge, recording an ERA of 1.27 (21.1IP, 14H, 3ER)...Over his last 6 appearances overall in the major leagues his ERA was 1.59 (11.1IP, 5H, 2ER)...Recorded first major league win on August 19 vs. Baltimore and 2nd win on August 29 vs. Detroit...Appeared in just 6 games during pennant race (Sept./Oct)...Batters hit .184 (9-49) off him with runners on and .207 (6-29) with RISP while with Cleveland (.188, 3-16, w/RISP-2outs)...Batters hit .150 (9-60) off him with 2 strikes...Over his last 12 outings with Cleveland from July 21 on his ERA was 1.16 (24.2IP, 18H, 3ER, 23K)...ML batters hit .212 (24-113, 1HR) as lefties hit just .196 (9-46, 0HR).
2004
Spent most of the season at AAA Buffalo and was impressive in 4 brief appearances as he reached the big leagues for the first time in August...Converted 5 of 6 save chances on the year with the Bison and led the team relievers w/76.0IP and 93K (2nd on team overall to Denney)...Struck out at least one batter in 39 of 44 outings. Began the season with Buffalo and struggled out of the gate, allowing 4 runs or more over 5 of his first 17 outings and went 0-0-4 w/a 7.36 ERA in 7 April games (11.0IP, 11H, 9ER) and 0-1-0 w/a 5.63 ERA in May (9G, 16.0IP, 14H, 10ER, 19K)...Over his first 18 outings thru June 5 his ERA was 7.12 (30.1IP, 32H, 24ER, 27BB, 34K)...Totally turned his season around from outing on June 8th on, going 3-1 w/a save and a 1.61ERA over his last 26 appearances (44.2IP, 25H, 8ER, 16BB, 58K) as he lowered his ERA from 7.12 to 3.79. Did not allow a run over 7 appearances from June 28 to July 16 (11.2IP)... Did not allow a run over his 2 appearances in the IL Playoffs (4.0IP, 2H, 0R, 4K)...IL hitters hit .208 (57-274) off him w/9HR allowed...RH hitters hit .209 (36-172) w/5HR and LH hitters hit .206 (21-102) w/4HR and batters hit .223 (23-103) off him w/men on base. Was recalled for the first time on August 18 and made his major league debut on August 20 at Minnesota (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K)...Allowed 3 runs in 2.0IP on August 26 vs. Chicago and was optioned back to Buffalo on August 27...Recalled from AAA Buffalo for a second time Sept. 19 at the conclusion of the playoffs (2G, 4.0IP, 2H, 0R, 4K)...Did not allow a run over his 2 September outings (2.1IP, 0H, 0R, 2K)...Batters were 0 for 12 off him w/no one on base & 3 for 6 (.500) w/runners on... Spent the entire season at AA Akron between the starting rotation and the bullpen, finishing 3rd in the Eastern League in strikeouts with 115 in 109.0IP...Finished 3rd in the league in strikeouts despite pitching out of the bullpen from 6/28 thru the end of the season...After the season he was selected to the Sportsticker Eastern League All-Prospect Team...Did not allow a hit during his first start of 4/8 vs. Harrisburg (5.0IP, 0H, 0R, 3BB, 9SO), combining with Aaron Myette & Jose Vargas on the first no-hitter in Canton/Akron franchise history...Was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week from 5/26-6/1 (2-0, 1.80ERA)...Won 5 straight decisions from 5/22 to 6/17, making his final start of the season on 6/22 at Binghamton ...Overall in June he was 3-0 w/a 2.03 ERA in 6 games (5GS, 26.2IP, 21H, 6ER) after recording an ERA of 2.14 in 4 April starts and a 2.90 ERA in 6 May starts...Went 0-1 w/5 saves and a 2.77 ERA in 11 August appearances (13.0IP, 9H, 5R/4ER, 15SO) and did not allow a run over 6 of his last 7 outings, earning 5 saves (7.0IP, 3H, 1R/ER, 2BB, 6SO)...Did not allow a run or a hit over his 3 playoff outings (3.0, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 6SO) for the Eastern League champion Aeros...On the year he averaged 9.5 strikeouts per 9.0IP and limited EL hitters to a .237 (96-405) average against with 8HR allowed.

Split the season between A Kinston and AA Akron and finished 3rd in the organization with 136 strikeouts in 137.0 innings while limiting minor league hitters to a .216 (109-505) average against w/8 HR allowed...Led the Kinston club w/110.0 IP...Began the year in the starting rotation at Kinston, making 21 straight starts before being promoted to AA Akron on 7/26...Best outing came on 6/6 vs. Myrtle Beach (6.0 IP, 3 H, 8 SO)...Was 3-1 w/a 2.51 ERA in 5 July starts at the time of his promotion (28.2 IP, 22 H, 8 ER, 9 BB, 28 SO)...At Akron he struggled in a starting role, posting a record of 1-2 w/a 7.20 ERA over his 4 starts (20.0 IP, 24 H, 16 ER) before tossing 12.0 shutout innings (7.0 in relief on 2 hits) over his last 4 outings at Akron (included his last start of 5.0 shutout IP) to end the regular season...Were the first three relief outings of his career...Earned first professional save in 2nd career relief appearance on 8/29 vs. Harrisburg (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 SO)...Did not allow a run in his 1 Eastern League playoff appearances (1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO)...Left-handed hitters hit a combined .204 (40-196) off him w/3 HR allowed and righties hit .223 (69-309) w/5 HR at Kinston and Akron...Batters also hit a combined .215 (31-144) off him with runners in scoring position...Was added to the 40-man roster on 11/20.

Spent the year in the starting rotation at A Columbus, sporting a 3.61 ERA in 20 starts and striking out 96 in 94.2 IP...South Atlantic League batters hit .242 (89-368) off him as a 19-year old... Did not record an ERA above 3.91 in any start on the year...Missed all of June with a broken nose after being hit in the face by line drive at Hickory on 5/24...Struck out 12 on 5/18 vs. Charleston (SC).

Spent his first professional season at A Burlington of the Appalachian League, finishing T-1st in starts (13), 1st in losses (7) and 4th in earned runs allowed (35) while yielding only 64 hits in 68.1 IP...Lost 6 straight decisions from 7/16-8/22.
