Hit .301 in 65 apps for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and .292 in 61g for the Yankees... on 9/2 at TB suffered a broken right wrist when he was hit by a Jason Hammel pitch and didn't play again the rest of the season...had surgery on 9/4...began the season at Scranton/WB and made all 65 of his apps there before he was promoted on 6/19...for the Yankees made 49 starts at 1B and did not commit an error in 408 total chances...from 6/28-8/3 started at 1B in 32 of NYY's 34g (.314, 2hr, 17rbi)...the Yankees went 22-10 in those 32 starts...from 7/20-7/29 produced a career-best 11-game hitting streak (.333)...at the time of his 6/19 promotion led the Red Barons in hits (75) and had produced 24 multi-hit games...was one of NYY's final spring training roster cuts...following the season rejected an outright assignment to the minor leagues and elected free agency...on 1/4 was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract.

Split time between the Yankees and Triple-A Columbus...earned the 2005 James P. Dawson Award as the Yankees' most outstanding rookie during spring training, as selected by members of the New York Chapter of the BBWAA...made his first career Opening-Day roster, replacing Kevin Brown (who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 4/2)...appeared in two games without an AB and was optioned to Columbus on 4/17...Was 6-for-14 with 5R, 2HR and 8RBI in three games before being recalled by the Yankees on 4/22 to replace the injured Ruben Sierra...in five stints with the Yankees, hit .150 (6-for-40) with 1HR and 4RBI in 27 games...hit only Major-League home run this season in his first start on 4/24 vs. Texas (was 2-for-4 with 2R, 1 double and a career-high 4RBI)...was 0-for-5-with five strikeouts-on 5/2 win at Tampa Bay...Became the third Yankee-and second position player-to strike out five times in a single game, joining RHP Johnny Broaca (on 6/25/23 vs. Chicago) and OF Bernie Williams (8/21/91 at Kansas City)...in 75 games with Columbus, hit .300 (90-for-300) with 60R, 22HR and 54RBI...his 22 homers ranked second on the Clippers' team and third among all Yankees' minor-leaguers in 2005 despite playing in only 75 games...hit in a Clippers' best 14 straight games from 5/29-6/11, batting .373 (22-for-59) with 6HR and 9RBI during the streak.

Was the recipient of the Kevin Lawn "Minor-League Player of the Year" Award, recognizing the Yankees top minor-league position player...led all Yankees minor-leaguers with a .321 average and 101RBI and ranked second with 30HR...spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Columbus, leading the club with a .318 average (138-for-434), 83R, 26HR and 86RBI in 115 games...also recorded 19 doubles and six triples...finished third in the International League with a team-best .569 slugging percentage...finished third in the I.L. with his 26HR, fifth in RBI and sixth in batting... was selected to play in the International- League All Star Game on 7/14 (at Pawtucket) and was voted the Most Valuable Player after going 1-for-2 with a 10th inning "walk-off" home run to give the I.L. a 4-3 win over the Pacific Coast League...started the season at Double-A Trenton (4/19-4/30)...hit .375 with 4 HR and 16 RBI in 10 games with Trenton before being transferred to Columbus on 5/1...combined to hit 30HR and drive in 101 runs with Trenton and Columbus...was recalled by the Yankees on 8/13...did not appear in a game and was optioned back to Columbus on 8/19...hit .350 with 8 HR and 29 RBI during the month of August...the 29 RBI in August were the most for the month in the I.L...had season- high 18-game hitting streak from 8/8-28, batting .397 (27-for-68) with 5HR and 21RBI...in five playoff games with the Clippers vs. Richmond was 1-for-21...was recalled again on 9/14 and made his Major-League debut that night at Kansas City as a pinch runner (for Giambi) in the ninth inning...in his first Major League at bat-on 9/26 at Boston-hit pinch-hit 2-run HR and was 1-for-1...became the third player in franchise history to homer in his first at-bat, joining Marcus Thames (6/10/02 vs. Arizona) and John Miller (9/11/66 at Boston)...also joined Bubba Crosby (4/9/04 vs. Chicago) and Todd Zeile (4/2/03 at Toronto) as the only players to homer in their first plate appearance as a Yankee...in five games with the Yankees, batted .250 (2-for-8) with 1HR and 2RBI.
2003
Was limited to just 17 games with Triple-A Columbus, batting .209 (14-for-67) with 2 HR and 5 RBI...injured his right elbow on 3/28 and began the season on the disabled list...was activated on 4/11 but returned to the D.L. from 4/20 to 5/1...homered in back-to-back games on 4/14-15...played in nine games in May before being shut down for the remainder of the season on 5/14...had arthroscopic surgery on 6/17 to repair a bone spur in his right elbow...was reinstated from the disabled list on 9/16.
2002
Split the season between Double-A Norwich and Triple-A Columbus, combining to bat .287 with 35 doubles, 28 HR and 87 RBI in 124 games...his 28 homers led all Yankee minor-leaguers...began the season with Norwich, leading the Navigators with a .305 average (83-for-272)...also had 24 doubles, 19 HR and 51 RBI in 73 games...was promoted to Columbus on 7/2 and on that day vs. Scranton went 4-for-5 with 1HR and 2RBI...homered in three straight games from 7/14-16 and in back-to-back games four other times in 2002...with Columbus batted .263 (54-for-205) with 9HR and 36RBI in 51 games.
2001
Began the season with Double-A Norwich, batting .268 (49-for-183) with 6HR and 25RBI in 51 games before being transferred to Single-A Tampa on 6/11...finished the season there, batting .302 (83-for-288) with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 11HR and 50RBI in 75 games...had 21 multi-hit games for Tampa.
2000
Spent the majority of the season with Single-A Tampa, batting .287 (137-for-478) with 13 HR and 58 RBI in 127 games...ranked fifth in the Florida State League with 33 doubles...had a career-high five hits on 6/1 vs. Charlotte, going 5-for-6 with two doubles, 1HR and 3RBI...had a career-high 17-game hitting streak from 7/8-25, batting .349 with eight doubles, 3HR and 12RBI in that span...also batted .332 (75-for-226) in 64 games at Legends Field...was promoted to Double-A Norwich on 8/28 and batted .250 (7-for-28) in seven games there.
1999
In his first professional season with Staten Island of the New York Penn League batted .322 (75-for-233) with 7HR and 48RBI in 64 games...ranked third in the league with seven triples and fifth with his .322 average...was also named to the NY Penn League All-Star Team...had a career-high 9RBI on 7/22 vs. Oneonta, hitting two grand slams in the game and going 2-for-5...had an 11-game hitting streak from 8/13-30, batting .500 (18-for-36) with 11RBI during the stretch.
