Began the season with Triple-A Pawtucket, but saw Major League service time in three separate stints ... Recorded his lone Major League save of the season against Anaheim on April 27 ... Picked up his first Major League win of the season against Kansas City on May 1 ... His other win came against Houston on June 15 ... In 20 games with Triple-A Pawtucket, went 3-2 with a 2.42 ERA.
2002
Made his M.L. debut 9/8 at Col. (0.2 IP, 3 H2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB)...Was struck in the right forearm by a L. Gonzalez line drive 9/10 at Ariz. and did not pitch again until his final app. of the season 9/28 at LA...Gave up 4 ER in 1.1 IP over three apps. with SD...Pitched most of the season at Portland (AAA), going 4-3 with a 2.78 ERA and six saves in 56 relief apps...Walked just 29 while striking out 74 in 74.1 IP...Held opps. to a .219 batting avg...Held LH to a .173 avg., RH to .249 ...Did not allow an earned run in 43 apps., and allowed more than 2 ER in just one of his 56 apps...Did not allow a run in 13 straight apps. from 7/2 - 8/3 (14.2 IP)...Was 1-0 with a 0.65 ERA and six saves in 23 apps. after 7/1 (27.2 IP, 2 ER).

Spent his first season in the SD organization with Rancho Cucamonga (A), going 7-5 with a 5.33 ERA in 16 games (14 starts)...Had his season cut short after fracturing his left collarbone in two places during a pre-game workout 7/7...Was placed on the D.L. 7/8 and missed the rest of the season...Struck out a season-high eight on 4/ 30, including six of his first eight batters faced.
