In 1995 graduated from Wayne (WV) High School, where he posted a 42-5 career record and
helped his team win 3 state championships...as a senior was West Virginia Player of the Year...played baseball
at Oklahoma State University, where he went 24-8 during his 3 seasons...as a sophomore was second team
All-Big 12...as a freshman at OSU started Game 1 of the 1996 College World Series and threw 8.1 innings in
a no-decision against top-ranked Alabama...his first cousin, Tim Adkins, pitched in the Devil Rays, Tigers and
Yankees organizations and currently is a regional scout with the Cubs in the Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia
and Pennsylvania area...Tim Adkins also served as the pitching coach at Marshall University.

Following the 2008 season was resigned
by the Reds to a minor league contract but
was released before 2009 spring training...signed with
the Lotte Giants in Busan, South Korea and spent the
season there, where he went 3-5, 3.70 and led the
Korean Baseball Organization with 26 saves...was
managed by former Major Leaguer Jerry Royster...
on 11/24/09 was re-signed by the Reds to a minor league contract...on 1/26/10 was invited to Major League

2008
Was Class AAA Louisville's Co-Most Valuable Player along with 1B Kevin Barker...led all Reds farmhands
and the International League with 30 saves, 1 shy of the franchise record (31sv, Mike Perez, 1990)...converted
30-33 save opps...ranked second in the IL with a team-high 57 apps...made his Reds debut on 9/9 at Mil,
recorded the final out of the 10th inning and earned the 11-inning, 5-4 victory.
2007
Had his contract selected from New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League on July 27th...Appeared in one game with the
Mets...Was designated for assignment on July 29th...Cleared waivers and was outrighted to New Orleans on August 1st...Pitched a scoreless inning of relief on July 27th vs. Washington...Constructed a 16.0 scoreless innings streak spanning 12 outings from June 3rd-July 4th with New Orleans...Finished third on the Zephyrs with five saves and third in appearances.
2006
Began the year with Portland (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League...His contract was purchased by San Diego for the first time on April 18th...Optioned to Triple-A on August 21 and recalled again for the remainder of the season on August 24...Made his Padres debut April 18 at Colorado...Appeared in 13 games in July and posted a 2-0 record with a 1.32 ERA (two earned runs/13.2 innings)...In those contests, he walked four and held opposing batters to a .156 (7-45) average...Worked 13.1 consecutive scoreless innings from May 16-June 13...Also, did not allow a run over 9.2 innings from June
27-July 19 and in 8.2 innings from Aug. 20-Sept. 14...Tossed a season-high 2.0 innings on seven occasions...Did not allow a run in the final six of those 2.0-inning outings.
2005
After working the entire 2004 season as a reliever with the White Sox, the right-hander pitched primarily as a starter for Triple-A Charlotte in 2005. Adkins started in 21 of his 23 games for the Knights, posting a 4-9 record with a 5.37 earned run average over 127 1/3 innings. He struck out 92, walked 43 and allowed 148 hits. Adkins made a brief appearance with the White Sox, posting an 8.64 ERA over five games in relief. He allowed five of his eight runs while pitching in the 16th inning of a 9-4 loss to Minnesota on August 16 at home, as part of a three-game Twins sweep. Originally selected by the A's, Adkins was not added to the roster during Sept. callups.
