15 starts...the starts were fifth most on the A's pitching staff...14 of the starts came from May
25 to August 25...started the season in the minors and finished it in the A's bullpen before
making a spot start in his final outing of the season...ranked ninth among American League
rookies in starts, 10th in strikeouts (64) and tied for 10th in wins...allowed a .261 opponents
batting average...began the year at Double-A Midland and was 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA in three
starts before he was promoted to Sacramento on April 18...went 3-2 with a 1.77 ERA in
seven starts in his Triple-A debut and was called up to Oakland on May 25 after going a
combined 5-2 with a 1.55 ERA and no home runs allowed in 10 minor league starts (52.1
innings)...made his major league debut on May 25 against Tampa Bay and pitched seven
shutout innings to pick up the win (3 h, 3 bb, 10 so)...combined with Chad Bradford on a
three-hit shutout and struck out 10 to become the second pitcher in Oakland history to fan 10 or more in his debut...Tim Hudson set the

innings in five of his first six starts and then tossed fewer than six innings in eight of his final nine starts...was moved to the bullpen
following the break with the acquisition of Ted Lilly but never pitched in relief before he was optioned to Sacramento on July 23...returned
the next day when Lilly went on the disabled list and went 2-1 with a 5.87 ERA (20 er in 30.2 ip) in six starts during his second
stint...charged with the A's final loss before their 20-game winning streak on August 12 vs. Toronto, despite allowing just two runs on five
hits in 7.0 innings...optioned to Sacramento on August 26 th as the A's had three off days over an eight day stretch and went with a four-man
rotation...made one start at Sacramento, a loss at Las Vegas on September 2, and finished the Triple-A portion of his season 3-3
with a 3.26 ERA in eight starts...returned to Oakland on September 4 and appeared in two games...made his only relief appearance of
the season on September 15 against Seattle and took the loss (2.0 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 1 er, 3 bb, 1 so) and started on September 28 at Texas
and had a no decision, despite allowing a season high seven runs in a season low 1.1 innings.

Acquired by the A's from the
Texas organization during the off-season and tied for fourth in the A's organization in wins (10) while ranking sixth in ERA (4.14)...started
27 games which tied for third most in the Texas League...tossed six or more innings in 12 of those starts, allowed three runs or fewer 18
times and did not walk a batter eight times...led Double-A Midland in strikeouts (112), tied for the team lead in games started and ranked
second in innings pitched (150.0)...allowed a .285 opponents batting average which broke down to .335 (71 for 212) against left
handers and .258 (102 for 396) against right handers...posted a 2.08 ERA in five April starts but was just 2-2...went 4-1 with a 3.15 ERA
in six July starts...including a four-game winning streak from July 10 to 26 that he capped with 7.0 shutout innings on July 26 against El
Paso.
2000
Named to the Florida State League post-season All-Star team after leading the league with a career high 13 wins...also
tied for second in complete games (3) and shutouts (2), was third in opponents batting average by a starter (.219), tied for fourth in
games started (27) and ranked eighth in ERA (3.32)...led his Charlotte team in wins and shutouts and tied for the team lead in starts and
complete games...ranked second in the Texas organization in wins, fifth in strikeouts (136) and sixth in ERA...allowed a .220 opponents
batting average which broke down to .283 (41 for 145) against left handers and .200 (87 for 436) against right handers...tossed seven
or more innings in 10 of his 27 starts...struck out a season high 13 in 6.0 shutout innings of one-hit ball on April 25 at Daytona...was 2-
0 with a 1.59 ERA in five games in May...tossed a one-hitter in a 5-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader on June 13 at St.
Petersburg...was named FSL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 12-18...finished the season with a seven-game winning streak
from July 15 to August 28 (2.59 ERA).
1999
Was named Pitcher of the Year in the Appalachian League..led the AL in wins (9) and fewest base runners
per 9 innings (1.83) and tied for the league lead in complete games (1) and shutouts (1)...ranked third in ERA
(2.30) and strikeouts (87) and was fifth in IP (78.1).
