In 1997 graduated from Liceo De Aplicacion High School in Caracas, VZ, where he played baseball and basketball...his older brother, Albenis, is a minor league infielder.
2006
Spent the entire season at Class AA Chattanooga, where in 129g he hit .237 with 7hr, 39rbi and 5 stolen bases...was voted the Lookouts' captain...on 10/14 signed a minor league contract with the Reds with an invitation to 2007 Major League spring training camp...played for Pastora de los Llanos in the Venezuelan Winter League (35g, .208, 1hr, 4rbi, 2sb).
2005
In an injury-plagued season appeared in 46g for Class AAA Louisville and Colorado Springs and 6g for the Reds and Rockies...began the season on the 15-day disabled list following 1/28 arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn medial collateral ligament and torn meniscus in his left knee (Dr. Timothy Kremchek)... suffered the injury while playing winter ball following the '04 season...from 6/10-7/5 hit .138 in 21g during a rehabilitation assignment at Louisville...on 7/6 was returned from that rehab assignment and was reinstated from the disabled list...appeared in 2g for the Reds, both as a pinch hitter (7/16 vs Col, 7/18 vs Chi), before he was claimed off waivers by the Rockies on 7/20...for Col went 0-for-10 in 4g before he was designated for assignment on 7/30...was outrighted off Col's 40-man roster on 8/3 and spent the rest of the season at Colorado Springs...following the season became a minor league free agent...on 11/16 signed a minor league contract with the Reds with an invitation to 2006 Major League spring training camp...played for Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League (27g, .136, 2rbi).
2004
Spent most of the season in the minor leagues with 3 different teams...in 109g at Class AAA Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre and Louisville combined to hit .228 (6hr, 38rbi, 14sb)...also appeared in 7g at Class A Clearwater... from 3/26-4/28 was on the Phillies' disabled list following an appendectomy...made his first 7 apps at Clearwater before he was promoted to S/WB on 5/6...was traded to Cin on 7/30 and was assigned to Louisville...joined the Reds on 9/7, following the conclusion of the Bats' season...that night at Hou made his Reds debut and his first Major League start (SS, 0-4)...appeared in 17g for the Reds...made all 16 of his starts at SS...on 9/10 vs Mil, in his second start, doubled off Ben Hendrickson for his first career hit...his first 3 career hits were doubles...in his first 13g hit .333...finished the season 0-for-11 in his last 4g and hitless in his last 12ab overall, dropping BA from .341...following the season suffered a knee injury while playing for Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League (12g, .244)...on 1/28/05 had arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn medial collateral ligament and torn meniscus in his left knee (Dr. Timothy Kremchek).
2003
In his second full season at Class AA Reading led the minor leagues with 108 walks, the second-highest total in franchise history...also led the Eastern League in stolen bases (49)...became the first Reading Phillies player to record at least 40 stolen bases in consecutive seasons...began the season 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts...from 4/3-6/17 reached base safely via hit or walk in his first 26 home games...from 4/30-5/9 scored at least 1 run in 9 consecutive games...from 5/30-6/4 was on the temporary inactive list while he returned to his native Venezuela for personal reasons...was named to the Eastern League Southern Division All-Star team to replace 3B Juan Richardson (sprained left ankle)...went 0-for-1 in the game, on 7/16 at New Britain... was promoted to the Phillies on 9/9...on 9/27 vs Atl made his first Major League appearance, pinch ran and recorded a stolen base...became the 16,000th player to appear in a Major League game.
2002
At Class AA Reading led the team in RBI (77) and stolen bases (40)...his 40 steals were the most by a Reading player since Essix Burton's 40sb in 1996...recorded a club-record 18 sac bunts...produced 12 homers in 450ab... entered the season with 10 career HR in 1,221 career at bats...ranked among the Eastern League batting leaders in stolen bases (4th) and stolen base percentage (5th, 40-51, .784)...among EL shortstops ranked first in total chances (614), assists (391), and double plays (79); third in putouts (195); and fourth in fielding percentage (.954)...was Eastern League Player of the Week for 8/12-18 (.357, 5 2b, 3hr, 20rbi)...from 5/22- 6/1 was on the disabled list with a lacerated right index finger...on 5/16 vs New Britain had 3 infield singles... on 8/13 and 8/14 vs Altoona hit grand slams in consecutive games...was rated the seventh-best prospect in the Phillies organization.
2001
Spent most of the season at Class A Clearwater, where he finished second in the Florida State League in triples (8)...was a Florida State League in-season All-Star...was the Phillies' Minor League Player of the Week for 5/14-5/20 (.370, 6r, 1 2b, 1 3b, 2hr, 5rbi)...when promoted to Class AA Reading on 7/22 was leading FSL shortstops in fielding percentage (.962)...on 4/16 vs Daytona had 4 hits... on 4/23 vs Charlotte had 3 steals...was rated by Baseball America as the Phillies' 11th-best prospect.
2000
Began the season at Class A Clearwater, where he led team in games (117), walks (54) and stolen bases (32)...was a Florida State League All-Star...on 4/18 at Vero Beach went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 1hr, 4rbi, 1sb and 2r...on 8/16 vs Sarasota had 4 steals...was promoted to Class AA Reading on 9/2...was rated by Baseball America as the sixth-best prospect in the Phillies organization.
1999
Began the season with the rookie Gulf Coast League Phillies (R)...in his first 20g hit .350...tied for the GCL lead with 7 sac bunts...was promoted to Class A Clearwater on 7/9, appeared in 1g and returned to the GCL Phillies...on 8/14 was promoted to Class A Piedmont, where he made each of his 20 apps at shortstop.
