In 1990 graduated from Jupiter (FL) High School...attended Middle Georgia Junior College in Cochran, GA...his father escaped Cuba in the 1950s during the Fidel Castro revolution.

For the Gulf Coast League Red Sox led the club in hits (57) and RBI (28) in his first professional season.
1994
At Class A Sarasota ranked 10th in the Florida State League in hitting (.288).
1996
At Class AA Trenton and Class A Sarasota combined for a career-high 37 doubles and 70 walks...with 80rbi ranked second among all Red Sox minor leaguers...hit .364 in the playoffs.
1997
Combined for 17hr and 56rbi at Class AA Trenton and Class AAA Pawtucket.

At Class AAA Pawtucket led the International League in RBI (93) and ranked among the league leaders ingames (134, 2nd), hits (153, 4th), walks (55, 4th), runs (78, 5th), on-base percentage (.372, 5th) and batting average(.304, 7th)...was an International League All-Star and a Baseball America Class AAA All-Star...was promoted on 9/2and made 9 apps for the Red Sox...went hitless in his first 9ab before he produced his first Major League hit, a singleoff TB's Victor Zambrano on 9/17 at Fenway Park...produced his other hit on 9/26 at TB, a single off Carlos Reyes...made his last appearance on 9/28 at TB...for Bos made 7 apps at 1B, including 3 starts, and 1 start in RF...for the PawSox had 5rbi on 4/16 at Ottawa...hit .377 in April and .403 in July (28rbi).
2004
Spent the season with the Pirates' Class AAA affiliate in Nashville...in June hit .353 with 4hr and 18rbi in 25g...in August hit .314 before his season ended with an injury on 8/20...from 7/9-7/30 hit safely in 16-17g, including a 12-game hitting streak from 7/17-7/30...from 7/18-7/22 homered in 4-5g....appeared in 53g in LF, 25g in RF and 9g at 1B...vs RHP hit .300 (10hr, 37rbi) and vs LHP hit .270 (2hr, 12rbi)...hit .317 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs.
2005
At the Indians' Class AAA affiliate in Buffalo was named co-Most Valuable Player along with C Ryan Garko...with a career-high 20hr ranked T5th in the organization...his 85rbi was second-highest total in his career, led the club, ranked third in the organization and ranked fifth in the International League...hit .345 with RISP...in his last 52g of the season hit .329 (12 2b, 6hr, 29rbi, 25r)...following the season became a free agent...on 12/13 was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract and was invited to Major League spring training.
