appearances...earned win in final appearance with Expos, June 19 vs. White Sox...was designated
for assignment Aug. 3 and outrighted to Edmonton Aug. 6...in 28 outings for Trappers, went 5-5
with save and 5.02 ERA.
2003
Fikac spent majority of the season with Triple-A Sacramento, but did make 14 appearances for Oakland...pitched in the big leagues for a 3rd straight season...was a member of the Athletics' Opening Day roster after posting 2 saves and a 1.69 ERA in Spring Training...also limited Cactus League batters to an impressive .155 mark in 10
games...in all, went 0-1 with 2 holds and a 4.50 ERA in 14 games for the A's...was not on the A's post-season roster.

SUMMARY: Purchased from Double-A Mobile on August 14, Fikac made a spectacular major league debut, going 2-0 with a 1.37 ERA in 23 relief outings...did not allow a run in his first 12-plus games (16.0 IP), and posted a 0.76 ERA (2 ER/23.2 IP) in his first 21 games before surrendering 4 runs (2 earned) in 2.2 innings his last 2 times out...stranded 17 of 21 inherited runners...retired 18 of 23 first batters...recorded 6 holds after emerging as the club's primary right-handed set-up man...did not allow a run in 19 of 23 appearances, and did not give up a hit in 15...his change-up was rated the best in the organization by Baseball America heading into 2002.

Spent his 2nd consecutive season at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, going 5-3 with a team-leading 20 saves and a 1.80 ERA in 61 relief appearances...ranked 2nd in the California League in appearances...finished 4th in saves...limited opponents to a .174 (46-for-265) batting average, 2nd-best in the league, and only 2 home runs...his 8.88 base runners allowed per 9 innings were 3rd-fewest among Cal League relief pitchers...issued 24 walks and fanned 101, an average of 12.1 strikeouts per 9, 4th-most in the CL...struck out at least one batter in 54 of 61 appearances...did not allow an earned run in 19 consecutive outings (21.2 IP) June 26-August 9, picking up 12 saves in the process...allowed only one hit in 13 games (14.2 IP) July 3-August 5.

Posted an 8-3 record in 40 games (6 starts) for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga...ranked 4th on the Quakes staff in appearances and games finished (13), and 6th in innings pitched (85.0)...held the opposition to a .217 (23-for-106) average with runners in scoring position...received no decision in his lone post-season start vs. San Bernardino, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and one walk while striking out 6 over 5.1 innings.
