2005

Was released by the Arizona organization on March 24 and ended up playing for three different teams in 2005...started the year with Puebla in the Mexican League, signed with San Diego in the independent Golden League and finished the year at Triple-A Sacramento in the A's organization...combined at all three stops to post a 10-2 record and a 4.37 ERA in 21 games, 20 starts...allowed a .268 opponents batting average which broke down to .274 (78 for 285) against right-handed hitters and .258 (46 for 178) against left-handers...had 120 strikeouts in 119.1 innings...went 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA in five starts for Puebla...allowed a .398 opponents batting average, including .393 (11 for 28) with runners in scoring position...was the losing pitcher on April 30 against Angelopolis when he allowed four home runs and a season high eight runs in 4.2 innings...then pitched for the Golden League Champion San Diego Surf Dawgs and was 8-1 with a 2.58 ERA in 12 games, 11 starts...ranked third in the GL in ERA and was a second team Independent League All-Star selection by Baseball America...allowed a .209 opponents batting average and just four home runs in 76.2 innings (one per 19.2 innings)...yielded a .196 (33 for 168) average against right-handers and .227 (25 for 110) against left-handers...opponents batted .167 with runners in scoring position...struck out 87 in 76.2 innings, an average of 10.2 per nine innings...tossed six or more innings in 10 of his 11 starts, allowed two runs or fewer eight times and walked two batters or fewer six times...batted .344 (11 for 32) with two RBI, including 0 for 3 in three pinch hitting appearances...his first outing came in relief on June 13 against Surprise when he allowed five runs on eight hits in three innings...then moved into the starting rotation and went 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA over his first six starts from June 18 to July 16...tossed 6.0 shutout innings on June 24 against Japan...hurled his first complete game, a seven-inning six-hitter in a 5-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Chico on June 29 (2 bb, 7 so)...struck out 10 in 7.0 innings on July 10 at Mesa...suffered his only loss on July 21 at Chico and then went 4-0 with a 1.52 ERA over his final four starts...struck out a season high 13 in 8.2 innings on July 27 at Long Beach...tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out 10 in a 6-0 win over Long Beach on August 6...did not allow a run in 6.0 innings in his next start on August 12 against Fullerton and signed with the Oakland A's organization on August 17...made four starts with Sacramento and was 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA...allowed just one home run in 21.2 innings...opponents hit .315, including .333 (11 for 33) with runners in scoring position...his lone win came in his last outing on September 1 against Fresno when he allowed three runs on 10 hits in seven innings...went 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (6.0 ip, 4 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 3 so) in his lone postseason start.

2004

Pitched the entire season for Rochester in the International League and was 5-4 with a save and a 6.07 ERA in 38 games, six starts...struck out 86 in 83.0 innings, an average of 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings...best month was May, going 2-0 with a save and a 2.12 ERA in nine outings...was on the disabled list from August 17 to 30 with tendinitis in his right shoulder...was 0-2 with a 7.39 ERA in his six starting assignments while going 5-2 with a save and a 5.40 ERA in his 32 relief appearances.

2003

Was 6-11 with a 5.35 ERA in 28 games, 17 starts, for Rochester...was on the Disabled List with a sore right shoulder from April 3 to 23...did not allow an earned run in five appearances from July 18 to 29 (9.0 ip)...went 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA over a four-game stretch from August 16 to 28...matched his season high with 7.0 innings and added a season high 10 strikeouts, August 28 against Syracuse...was recalled by Minnesota on September 1 and posted a 47.25 ERA in two games...allowed six runs on six hits in one-third of an inning and took the loss on September 28 at Detroit.

2002

Spent the entire season at Triple-A Edmonton where he was 13-8 with a 5.47 ERA in 27 starts...had career highs in wins and starts...pitched six or more innings in 14 of his 27 starts...had 11 quality starts...led Edmonton in wins, games started and strikeouts (112) and was second in innings pitched (151.1)...was tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in wins...tossed a complete game three-hit shutout and struck out a season high 10 on May 18 at Tacoma...had a season high five-game winning streak and posted a 3.16 ERA over a five-start stretch from June 14-July 5...went 5-1 with a 2.93 ERA over a seven start stretch from July 30 to September 1.

2001

Began the season at Double-A New Britain where he was 5-6 with a 3.82 ERA in 18 games, all starts...ranked fifth among league starters in strikeouts per nine innings (8.76)...was recalled by Minnesota on July 13 and made his Major League debut with a start on July 16 at St. Louis...had a no decisions in the Twins 4-3 loss (6.0 ip, 7 h, 3 r, 3 er, 1 bb, 5 so)...picked up his first ML win in a 7-4 win on July 26 at Oakland (5.0 ip, 3 h, 2 r, 2 er, 5 bb, 3 so)...was optioned to Edmonton on July 31 after going 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA in three starts...had a season high 10 strikeouts and tied his season high with 8.0 innings on August 9 against Oklahoma...was brought back to Minnesota for a start and loss on August 16 at Cleveland but was sent back to Edmonton where he went 1-1 with a 5.70 ERA in four starts overall...recalled to Minnesota again on September 4 and went 0-0 with a 12.60 ERA (7 er in 5.0 ip) in three relief appearances...was 1-2 with a 7.20 ERA (16 er in 20.0 ip) in his four starting assignments.

2000

Was 5-4 with a 2.47 ERA in 13 games, 12 starts, in his professional debut with Fort Meyers...allowed a .186 opponents batting average, including .259 (21 for 81) against left-handers and .149 (24 for 161) against right-handers...averaged 11.94 strikeouts per nine innings and had three games of 10 or more strikeouts...led Ft. Myers in strikeouts (92) and shutouts (1)...was rated as the Twins best prospect and the fifth best prospect in the Florida State League by Baseball America...tossed six or more innings in eight of his 12 starts...had a season high three-game winning streak from August 22 to September 1 and did not allow a run over that stretch (22.2 ip)...earned Twins Minor League Player of the Week honors for the week of August 27-September 2...had a season high 9.0 innings and 13 strikeouts on September 1 at Jupiter.
