Underwent successful shoulder surgery at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery on April 10th...Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek inserted a screw in the coracoid, a small bone in front of his right shoulder, to repair a hairline fracture.

Recalled by Pittsburgh on June 23rd...Optioned back to Nashville (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League the following day...Was recalled for the second time on July 26th...Optioned back on August 10th...Recalled for the final time on September 13th...Earned his first major league win on August 1st vs. Colorado in a 12-11 victory...Pitched a scoreless inning in that contest.

Was recalled by Arizona on June 14th and made his major league debut that night vs. Detroit...Hurled 1.0 scoreless inning...Didn't allow a run in five of his first six outings with the D-Backs...Optioned to Tucson (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League on June 28th...Acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 6th in exchange for righthanded pitcher Mike Fetters...Assigned to Nashville (AAA)...Recalled by the Pirates on September 3rd...Struck out Sammy Sosa to end the game in a 13-3 victory on September 27th at Chicago.
2001
Split season as a starter with El Paso and Single-A Lancaster...began season with El Paso and went 1-5 with a 5.28 ERA in his first eight starts...lost first three decisions before winning first game on April 22 vs. Round Rock...lost back-to-back starts on May 10 and May 15 before winning consecutive games on May 20 and May 26...was on DL from June 12-July 16 with a right elbow ligament sprain...was reinstated and transferred to Lancaster on July 16...posted a 5-11 record and a 5.78 ERA in 23 starts with the two clubs...spent the winter playing for the Pollos of the Dominican League, where he was converted to a reliever and posted a 0-1 record and an 8.44 ERA (21.1 IP/20 ER) in 11 games.

Was added to Arizona's 40-man roster prior to the season...spent the entire year with Single-A South Bend...led all Diamondback minor leaguers in starts, complete games and innings pitched (165.1)...his start total also topped the Midwest League charts, while he finished fourth in innings pitched...lost his first three decisions... had a five-start stretch from May 21-June 11 in which he allowed just five earned runs in 34.1 innings of work (1.31 ERA)...recorded back-to-back complete games on June 6 and 11...tossed a one-hitter in a 12-1 victory vs. Dayton on June 11, facing just two batters over the minimum....was charged with three earned runs or less in 10 of his last 12 starts and went 4-3 with a 3.45 ERA from July 4 through the end of the campaign...surrendered just six home runs in 165.1 innings, allowing a long ball once every 27.2 innings.
1999
Was an honorable mention Pioneer League All-Star selection...began season with Single-A High Desert, his first professional experience in the United States...made just three starts with the Mavericks before being moved to Rookie-Level Missoula...ranked fourth among Pioneer League pitchers in ERA and held opposing hitters to a collective .210 average, the fifth-best mark in the league...picked up a win in each of his first four appearances (three starts)...was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 21-27 after going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 15.1 IP and 11 strikeouts in two starts...won his first five decisions before suffering first loss on Aug. 5.
