His 15 wins were the most he's ever had with the Giants and the most he's had in a campaign since winning 16 games with the A's in 2006. The Giants went 21-11 (.656) in his starts, matching Matt Cain for the most club victories in his starts. The Giants won his last 11 outings of the season...the last time SF won 11-consecutive starts by one of their pitchers was when they won 11-straight when Bill Swift started from April 6-June 27, 1992 (STATS, LLC). Went 7-0 with a 3.92 ERA (27er, 62.0ip) in his last 11 starts of the season...the Giants last lost a Zito start on Aug. 2 vs. New York-NL. (T3rd - .230), shutouts (T4th - 2), wins (T6th), ERA (8th), complete games (T9th - 3) and winning pct. Made stellar 14-start ML debut, going 7-4 with 2.72 ERA for Oakland...ERA was lowest among ML rookies with at least 30.0 innings pitched...tied for 3rd among AL rookies in strikeouts (78), tied for 4th in wins and ranked 6th in innings (92.2)...limited opponents to .195 batting avg. against...was selected from triple-A Sacramento July 22 and made his ML debut that day vs. Anaheim...became 28th pitcher in Oakland history to start in ML debut, and became 8th to win after allowing just 1 run in 5.0 innings...went 5-1 with 1.73 ERA in 6 Sept. starts as A's captured AL West title...was named AL Co-Player of Week with White Sox' Carlos Lee for Sept. 4-10, going 2-0 and tossing 15.2-scoreless innings...tossed 1st career complete game and shutout Sept. 10 against Tampa Bay, 5-hitter in A's 11-0 victory...made post season debut in historic Yankee Stadium, and pitched A's to 11-1 rout in Game 4 of ALDS...worked 5.2 innings, yielding 1 run on 7 hits...was 8-5 with 3.19 ERA in 18 minor league starts, and was named to Baseball America's Triple-A All-Star team.

Pitched for 3 different teams in A's farm system during 1st professional season...was selected in 1st round of June's First-Year Player Draft, debuted with single-A Visalia in July, was promoted to double-A Midland in Aug. and was sent to triple-A Vancouver in early Sept....combined to post 6-1 record with 3.16 ERA in 13 starts...struck out 97 batters in just 68.1 innings, while holding opponents to .198 avg. against...went 1-1 with 2.40 ERA in 3 post season games (2 starts) as Canadians won Pacific Coast League championship and Triple- A World Series.
