MATTHEW SHANE (MATT) GINTER...makes his off-season home in Lexington, KY with wife Emily...played 3 years of college ball at Mississippi State University, where he was a *Baseball America* pre-season All-American as a junior in 1999...played for Team USA in 1998, when he went 1-0 with 5 saves and a 4.35 ERA in 12 relief appearances during a 42-game slate that included the World Championships...was originally selected by the Yankees in the 1996, but did not sign.
2005
Split the year at Detroit and Triple-A Toledo after being outrighted and traded from the New York Mets April 2...made the Tigers' Opening Day roster and appeared in 10 games before being outrighted June 22...posted a 5.47 ERA (15 ER/24.2 IP) in those games, and a 6.17 ERA in 14 games (one start) overall after having his contract purchased September 7 and remaining with the club through season's end...in his lone start September 18 at Los Angeles (AL), suffered the loss after giving up 5 runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings...with the Mud Hens, went 4-3 with a 4.33 ERA in 17 games, 10 starts...walked just 10 batters in 68.2 International League innings, and average of 1.3 walks per 9 innings...joined the starting rotation upon his arrival at Toledo, going 3-3 with a 5.40 ERA (32 ER/53.1 IP) in 9 starts through August 6...then made 7 appearances out of the bullpen and one start (August 25 at (Norfolk) in his final 8 games through September 4, allowing just one run and walking none in 15.1 innings during that span.

Was 1-3 with a 4.54 ERA in 15 games, including a career-high 14 starts, over 4 stints with the New York Mets...entered Spring Training with the White Sox, and was outrighted and traded to the Mets March 27...reported to Triple-A Norfolk, and was called up for the first time May 16...made 11 starts through July 8, going 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA (29 ER/54.1 IP)...was recalled July 30, and appeared the next night at Atlanta in relief...did not appear again until August 11, when he did not figure in the decision after allowing 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 inning vs. Houston...was optioned August 12 and returned again August 22, suffering the loss that night at San Francisco after yielding 3 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings...returned to Norfolk August 23, and was brought up for the final time September 2 to start the next night at Philadelphia in place of the injured Kris Benson...pitched just 1.0 inning before leaving with a sprained right ankle...did not pitch again, going on the 60-day disabled list September 11...was 1-5 with a 2.95 ERA in 11 starts with Norfolk, walking just 8 in 64.0 innings for an average of 1.1 walks per 9 innings...allowed just 2 earned runs in 21.0 innings (0.86 ERA) in 4 April starts...was 0-2 with a 1.56 ERA (6 ER/ 34.2 IP) in 6 starts at the time of his first promotion.

Made 33 relief appearances over a pair of stints with the White Sox, going 1-0 with one save and a 4.47 ERA...was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte May 3, and notched his first big league save in his White Sox season debut May 7 at Texas...had a 2.45 ERA in 9 games before being optioned back to Charlotte June 12...returned to the Windy City June 25, and went 1-0 with a 5.50 ERA in 24 games through season's end...pitched on back-to-back days 3 times, tossing 4.1 shutout innings and allowing just one hit in the 2nd games of those occasions...held righthanders to a .208 average (21-for-101)...lefties batted .342 ( 38-for-111) against him...held opponents to a .196 (11-for-56) in 10 day games...earned his 3rd major league victory June 28 vs. Chicago (NL), tossing 3.1 scoreless and hitless innings...worked 10.0 straight shutout innings over 5 appearances May 20-June 9.

Made his major league debut with the White Sox in just his 2nd pro season...had his contract purchased August 31 after spending the season's first 5 months with Double-A Birmingham, where he ranked 2nd in the Southern League with a 2.25 ERA, 3rd with 179.2 innings pitched and tied for 3rd with 11 wins...had his contract purchased August 31, and made his debut the next night vs. Anaheim, tossing a scoreless 8th inning and earning the win after the White Sox scored 6 in the bottom of the inning to win 9-8...Keith Foulke pitched the 9th for the save...appeared 6 more times, and finished with a 13.50 ERA (14 ER/9.1 IP)...went 11-8 in 27 S.L. games, all but one as a starter...had 23 quality starts, including each of his final 21 starts...worked 9.0 innings on 2 occasions, but did not figure in the decision in both, allowing no runs and 5 hits June 6 vs. Tennessee and one run on 7 hits June 30 vs. Tennessee...had a 2.0-inning relief appearance August 30 vs. Huntsville before his promotion...S.L. opponents hit just .233 against him...was rated by
