Pitched for three minor-league teams in two organizations, combining to go 11-9 with a 3.91 ERA in 29 starts...began the season at Double-A San Antonio, going 8-4 with a 3.30 ERA...after losing his first three decisions, won six straight over an eight start span from 4/29-6/5, allowing 11 ER in 57.0 IP (1.74 ERA)...was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on 7/1 and went 1-3 with a 4.94 ERA in five starts before being acquired by Montreal as part of a seven player trade on 7/31...spent the remainder of the season at Triple-A Ottawa despite receiving the no-decision on 8/21 at Pawtucket, set the Lynx franchise record with 13 K in 7.0 IP...fanned 10 Syracuse Chiefs in 5.2 innings in his last start of the season on 9/5...struck out 49 in 39.0 IP during his IL stint...pitched for Arecibo in Puerto Rico at season's end.

Spent the entire season at Class-A San Bernardino and was named the California League Pitcher-of-the-Year and was named to the league's post-season All-Star Team after going 7-8 with a 2.81 ERA in 23 games (21 starts)...ranked first in the league in ERA, strikeouts per 9.0 inning (10.7) and opponents batting average (.229)...threw a no-hitter on 5/10 vs. Lake Elsinore after missing two weeks because of a back injury...was the first no-hitter thrown in the league's in three years...struck out a season-high 13 vs. Lancaster on 7/29...became the first player in California League history to earn Pitcher-of-the-Week honors four times, three times in a one month span...missed the final three weeks of the season with a pinched nerve in his left shoulder...ranked sixth among the Top 10 Prospects in the league by Baseball America.

Was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the June 1996 free-agent draft...began his pro career with Short-A Yakima...was 4-0 in 13 games (eight starts) and led all short-season minor leaguers with a 0.84 ERA (53.2 IP, 5 ER, 75 K)...rated the seventh best prospect in the Dodgers' organization by Baseball America.
