Eric Serge Gagné...he and his wife, Valerie, have two daughters, Faye (11/11/00) and Bluu (12/5/05) and two sons, Maddox (1/5/04) and Harley (8/27/08)...graduated from Polyvalente Edouard Montpetit High School in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the same high school that Dodger catcher Russell Martin attended...pitched for Canadian National team in 1995...played baseball for one season at Seminole State Junior College (OK), during which time he learned the English language...grew up near Montreal's Olympic Stadium and attended Expos' games as a youngster...took part in the inaugural Dodger Caravan on Jan. 24, 2005 and again on Feb. 8, 2006... has helped raise $47,500 for the UCLA Children's Hospital Cancer Research Foundation, as Farmer John made a donation for each of his saves in 2003-04...participated in Dodgers' 'Dash' for National Hunger Awareness Day in 2004 and 2005, taking part in a shopping spree at a local Albertson's market, helping to raise $50,000 for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank...took part in the Dodgers Dream Foundation charity golf tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2005...visited the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club on Aug. 24, 2005 to kick off the "RAC" Room Program in which the Dodgers and Rent-A-Center refurbished the club...hosted the Eric Gagné Bowling Extravaganza in 2005 and 2006...given a Humanitarian Award at the 6th Annual L.A. Did not pitch in the Major Leagues for the first time since 1998...Pitched for the Quebec Capitals of the independent Can-Am League, appearing exclusively as a starter...Acted a mentor and coach for the Capitals...Went 6-6 with a 4.65 ERA (53 ER/102.2 IP) in 17 starts...struck out 64 batters and fired two complete games and one shutout.
2007
One of the most dominant closers in the major leagues for the first half of the season, Gagne was acquired by the Red Sox from the Texas Rangers at the July 31 trade deadline...Went 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA and 16 saves in 34 appearances with the Rangers, converting 16 of 17 save opportunities for a 94.1% success rate that ranked as 4th best in the majors at the time of the trade...Had the 8th lowest ERA among A.L. relievers while holding opponents to a .192 batting average, 10th best in the league...However, went on to post a 6.75 ERA (14 ER/18.2 IP) in 20 appearances for the Red Sox, allowing runs in 7 of the 20 contests...Overall between the 2 clubs, compiled a 5.91 ERA (21 ER/32.0 IP) in his final 33 games beginning June 24 after posting a 0.45 ERA (1 ER/20.0 IP) in his first 21 games of the season...Worked 4.2 scoreless innings in his final 5 games and posted a 2.84 ERA (4 ER/12.2 IP) in his last 13 outings.

Was listed on the Dodgers Opening Day roster, but did not pitch and was placed on the disabled list April 6 while still recovering from right elbow surgery he underwent in 2005...Threw a perfect inning with two strikeouts in a rehab appearance with Las Vegas on May 26...threw 1.0 scoreless inning with Las Vegas on May 29...Activated from the DL on May 30 and immediately began serving a two-game suspension stemming from 2005...Made his 2006 debut on June 2 vs. Philadelphia, tossing a scoreless inning with one strikeout...Picked up his first save in nearly one year by striking out two in a perfect inning against the Mets on June 6...it marked his 19th consecutive converted save since Aug. 28, 2004, a streak that remains intact...After just two outings, was placed back on the DL with right elbow inflammation on June 13...Underwent successful season-ending surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back on July 8...Was the Dodgers' nominee for MLB's Roberto Clemente Award...Hosted his second annual Bowling Extravaganza to benefit the Dodgers Dream Foundation on May 8.

Enjoyed record-breaking performance in first season as the Dodger closer...had 52 saves, which ranked second in the Major Leagues to Atlanta's John Smoltz (55) and also shattered the franchise single-season mark of 44 set by Todd Worrell in 1996...converted 52 of 56 save opportunities (93 percent) and was 26-for-27 in save chances at Dodger Stadium...had saves in back-to-back games 16 times and in three straight games four times...was runner- up to Smoltz (164 points) in Rolaids Relief Man competition with 159 points...pitched 1.0 inning in 2002 MLB All-Star Game in Milwaukee...became quickest pitcher in MLB history to reach both 20 saves (in team's 56th game) and 30 saves (in team's 82nd game)...his 114 whiffs were second among MLB relief pitchers (Houston's Octavio Dotel had 118 in 97.1 innings) and rank third alltime among Dodger relievers...led NL and ranked second in Majors by allowing just 8.0 baserunners per 9.0 innings (73 runners in 82.1 innings)...named as co-recipient, along with Colorado Rockies outfielder Larry Walker, of the Tip O'Neill Award, presented by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame...among NL relievers, was third in lowest batting average against (.189) and fourth in ERA (1.97)...in a 28-inning stretch from May 4-July 3, did not issue a walk, a span of 99 batters...honored as the NL Pitcher of the Month for June when he was 11-for-11 in save opportunities, allowing one earned run (0.63 ERA), seven hits and no walks with 24 strikeouts in 14.1 innings over 13 outings...led NL relievers in September with 26 Rolaids Relief Man points (two wins, seven saves, one tough save)...after beginning season by pitching in three non-save situations, hurled a scoreless inning on April 7 vs. Colorado to notch first save of his professional career...got a save on April 11 at San Francisco, escaping own one-out, two-on jam in the ninth by striking out Jeff Kent and retiring Reggie Sanders on a fly out...after the game, Manager Jim Tracy named him as the team's sole closer...suffered his first blown save when Atlanta's Gary Sheffield hit a game-tying ninth-inning homer on May 7 at Atlanta...converted 20 straight save chances from May 8-July 1...entered the June 21 contest vs. Boston with two outs in the eighth and a onerun lead and struck out all four batters he faced...on July 1 at Arizona, retired the side in order to record his 30th save...on July 23 at San Diego, struck out the side to get his 35th save...Aug. 3 at Philadelphia, hurled 2.0 hitless and scoreless innings to earn his first win since Sept. 20, 2001...recorded 40th save by pitching a 1-2-3 inning on Aug. 14 at Montreal...on Aug. 24 vs. Atlanta, tossed scoreless ninth to record his 44th save and tie the franchise single-season record...broke the then-franchise single-season saves mark, recording No. 45 by striking out the side on Aug. 28 vs. Atlanta...earned saves No. 50 and 51 with scoreless ninths in back-to-back games on Sept. 21 and 22 at San Diego...struck out the side for the eighth time to get his third win on Sept. 25 vs. San Diego...tossed a scoreless ninth on Sept. 26 vs. San Diego for save No. 52...had a great spring, compiling a 0.47 ERA in nine exhibition games, allowing eight hits and three walks with 19 strikeouts in 19.0 innings.

Went 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA in five games following Sept. 7 recall from Double-A San Antonio, where he won Texas League Pitcher of the Year honors after going 12-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 26 starts with 185 strikeouts in 167.2 innings for the Missions...was also selected as the Dodger organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year.....pitched 6.0 scoreless innings in Major League debut at Florida on Sept. 7...struck out eight, the most by a Dodger pitcher making his big league debut since Pedro Astacio fanned 10 in the second game of a doubleheader vs. Philadelphia on July 3, 1992...collected first Major League hit, a single, in the third inning...faced Marlins pitcher Ryan Dempster in rare matchup of two hurlers from Canada...marked first time two Canadian-born pitchers faced each other in a NL game since Reggie Cleveland (St. Louis) and Ferguson Jenkins (Chicago) met on July 28, 1973...Gagne and Dempster were roommates when they played for Team Canada in the 1993 Junior World Championships in Windsor, Ontario...held the Padres to one run on two hits in 7.0 innings on Sept. 22...faced 22 batters, one over the minimum...picked up first Major League victory on Oct. 1 in club's 5-1 win at Houston...held opposing batters to a .175 (18-for-103) average with Dodgers...led the Texas League in strikeouts, ranked second in ERA and third in victories while holding opposing batters to a .201 average...pitched 2.0 perfect innings in Double-A All-Star Game on July 14 in Mobile, AL.

Went 9-7 with a 3.74 ERA in 25 starts for Single-A Vero Beach...struck out 144 batters in 139.2 innings and walked only 48...led Vero Beach in strikeouts and innings pitched and tied for the team lead in wins and games started...among Florida State League leaders, was third in opponents' batting average (.225), fourth in strikeouts, strikeouts per 9.0 innings (9.28) and runners per 9.0 innings (10.96) and tied for fourth in complete games (3)...among Dodger minor leaguers, ranked third in strikeouts, tied for fourth in wins and starts and seventh in innings pitched...in his final seven starts of the season, he was 5-1 with a 1.63 ERA and fanned 65 batters in 49.0 innings, including 13 whiffs in his final start of the year.

Went 7-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 23 games, including 21 starts, for Single-A Savannah in his first professional campaign... struck out 131 batters in 115.1 innings...averaged 10.22 strikeouts per 9.0 innings...struck out 11 in a 3-0 win at Charleston on April 16...also whiffed a career-best 14 batters in a no-decision at Charleston on June 7...was 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA and 49 strikeouts in last nine starts.
