He and his wife, Jill, make their offseason home in Holland, Ohio...attended Sterling Heights (MI) HS, where he played baseball and basketball...drafted by Detroit in the 11th round of the 1995 First Year Player Draft...signed by Tigers scout Glenn Murdock.

Was called up from Triple-A Ottawa on July 5 and earned his first ML win in three years over the Devil Rays...Tossed seven scoreless innings on July 28 against Boston, allowing just three hits in a 4-1 win...Worked out of the bullpen in the final month of the season.

Spent most of the season at Rookie League Gulf Coast before making a start at Class A Lakeland to end the year...struck out a combined 39 batters while allowing just 9 walks.

Set a AA Jacksonville record and led the Southern League with 16 wins...Was 3rd in the league with 178.2 innings and tied for 3rd with 3 complete games...Was named Tiger Minor League Pitcher of the Month in August after going 5-0 with a 2.58 ERA...Closed the season with an 8-game winning streak and did pitcher over that time.
1999
Spent the first half of the season at Toledo and finished 3rd in Posted a 7.58 ERA in April but then rebounded with a 1.70 ERA in June...Did not allow more than 2 earned runs in each of his last 8 starts with the Mud Hens...Was recalled by the Tigers on 7/16 and made his major league debut the next day at Houston...Allowed just 2 runs - both on solo homers by Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell - in 7.1 innings while striking out 8, but did not receive a decision...Went 1-6 in 12 starts and also made 5 relief outings, allowing one earned run in 10.1 relief.
2000
Suffered an injury-plagued season in which he split time among four teams...After beginning the season at Toledo, joined the Tigers and made two appearances, including a start on 4/23 at Chicago in which he allowed 8 runs in 1.2 innings...Returned to Toledo and had surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow on 5/30...Was activated on 8/3 and made 3 rehab starts at Gulf Coast before being transferred to Lakeland, where he made two starts to end the year.
2001
Spent the first 5 weeks of the season at AAA Toledo...Pitched to a 1.72 ERA in his final 11 appearances with the Mud Hens before joining the Tigers...Allowed two runs or less in 13 of his 15 appearances with Detroit...In the two other outings, surrendered six runs in each game...Was placed on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder on 7/7 and season...Underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder on 10/19.
2002
