Two-time AL All-Star was acquired from Toronto with RHP Vinnie Chulk in exchange for RHP Jeremy Accardo, July 21, 2006...right-handed hitting, corner infielder had compiled .287 lifetime avg. with 197 2Bs, 104 HRs and 459 RBI in 870 career games...originally selected by Boston in 10th round 1996 First-Year Player Draft, 31-year-old has seen ML action with Red Sox (2001-03), Diamondbacks (2003-04), Blue Jays (2005-06) and Giants (2006)...logged at least 35 2Bs, 15 HRs and 80 RBI for four-straight years (2002-05), while falling just short in 2006 (27 2Bs, 21 HRs and 68 RBI)...durable player has logged at least 130 games during each of his ML seasons, including four years with at least 140 contests...is career .299 hitter (260-for-869) off left-handed pitching...has seen extensive time on both sides of diamond, logging 444 career games at third base and 365 contests at first base...has posted .992 fielding pct. as first baseman, committing just 27 errors in 3,232 total chances...was catcher during 1998 and 1999 seasons in Boston system. Set career high with 21 HRs in season split between Toronto and San Francisco...was hitting .301 (89-for-296) with 12 HRs and 39 RBI in 81 games with Blue Jays, before being dealt to Giants July 21...struggled upon arrival in SF, batting .216 (24-for-111) with three HRs and eight RBI over his first 29 contests...however, rebounded to hit at .276 clip (34-for-123) with six HRs and 21 RBI over his last 31 outings...drove in 23 runs during SF's 20-9 run Sept. 14-Aug. 14...started 58 of possible 64 games after joining Giants, hitting safely in 59 contests...was 47-for-139 (.338) overall vs. left-handed pitching...recorded 4th career multi-HR game April 28 at Yankee Stadium...clubbed his 100th career HR Aug. 26 vs. Cincinnati, two-run blast off Bronson Arroyo.

Was dealt to Toronto over winter, and led Blue Jays with 91 runs scored, 173 htis and 36 2Bs en route to AL All-Star honors...led majors, and set Blue Jays single-season record, by being hit by pitch 22 times...had 15 games with three or more hits, most of any Blue Jay...made 65 starts at first base, 52 at third base and 33 as designated hitter...hit at .325 clip (52-for-160) with seven HRs off left-handed pitching...batted .309 (88-for-285) against AL East opponents...got Toronto career off to hot start, batting .390 (39-for-100) in April to match Shannon Stewart (2001) for third-best avg. in season's opening month in club history...only John Olerud (.450 in 1993) and Damaso Garcia (.394 in 1984) had better April marks in Blue Jays annals...stole home Aug. 6 vs. Yankees, becoming first Blue Jay to swipe plate since June 29, 2004 (Eric Hinske at Tampa Bay).

Began season in Boston uniform, but was dealt to Arizona May 29 in exchange for RHP Byung-Hyun Kim...combined to establish career highs with 20 HRs and 97 RBI, while batting .280 with 35 2Bs...logged six-RBI effort April 6 at Baltimore...suffered left oblique strain June 8 vs. Cleveland, and was on Disabled List June 9-23...broke up pair of no-hitters with eighth-inning hits, become first player to do so twice in same season since 1989 (both Brook Jacoby and Nelson Liriano)...spoiled no-hit bid of LA's Odalis Perez July 5, and denied CHI's Carlos Zambrano Aug. 22...enjoyed career night July 7 vs. Colorado, setting personal single-game bests with five hits, four runs, three HRs and seven RBI...also established Arizona club record with 15 total bases...became sixth player in ML history to homer in three-straight innings, and first since Sammy Sosa did so Aug. 10, 2002 at Colorado...doubled in seventh inning to become first player since Larry Parrish on July 30, 1978 to collect extra-base hit in four consecutive innings, according to Elias Sports Bureau...clubbed second career pinch-hit HR Aug. 21 vs. Cincinnati, connecting for two-run clout.

AL All-Star began season with 12-game hitting streak April 1-17, batting .413 (19-for-46) with 5 HRs and 17 RBI...marked longest Red Sox hitting streak to open campaign since Lee Tinisley had 14-gamer in 1995...recorded first career multi-HR game April 7 at Baltimore...hammered first career grand slam May 4 at Tampa Bay, connecting off Victor Zambrano as pinch-hitter with two outs in the ninth to give Boston 7-5 victory...was just seventh pinch-slam in Red Sox hitstory, and first since Rich Gedman on Aug. 10, 1986 vs. Detroit...was voted as starting third baseman on AL All-Star team, first Red Sox third sacker to be selected since Scott Cooper in 1994 and first to start at hot corner since Wade Boggs in 1992....finished third among AL third basemen with 283 assists and 406 total chances...set career highs with 156 games, 94 runs, 186 hits and 43 2Bs...recorded 50th multi-hit efforts.

Made jump from Double-A Trenton to majors, and was Boston's Opening Day third baseman...went 1-for-4 in season opener at Baltimore, recording 1st ML hit off Pat Hentgen...belted first big league HR April 7, connecting off Tampa Bay's Travis Harper...opened ML career with nine-game hitting streak, becoming first Red Sox rookie to begin campaign with nine-game binge since Ted Williams in 1939...batted .306 (11-for-36) during streak, and .343 (34-for-99) over 25 April contests...connected for 18th-inning, walk-off HR June 5 vs. Detroit, leading off frame with solo clout off Dave Borkowski.

Was named Player of Year at Trenton after setting club records with 171 hits and 35 2Bs...also led all Boston minor leaguers with .323 avg....led Eastern League in hits and ranked third in avg., while fanning only 39 times in 558 plate appearances.
1999
Appeared in 69 games with Trenton, all behind plate, but had season cut short due to knee injury...was placed on Disabled List July 5 with right knee sprain, and eventually succumbed to surgery for torn ACL July 22, missing remainder of season.

Was voted Player of Year at single-A Michigan after leading Midwest League with .546 slugging pct., while ranking second in batting with .349 mark...topped all Red Sox farmhands with 93 RBI...named starting catcher on league All-Star squad.
