Was recalled from Tucson on 6/2 ... reached base safely four times in his first start on 6/7 vs. the Dodgers ... first major-league hit was a sixth-inning single off Gregg Olson ... added a solo home run off Jesse Orosco in the eighth inning of a 13-9 win ... reached base safely in his first 13 major-league starts and 25 of his first 26, hitting .337 (32-95) ... became the fifth rookie since 1954 to record a pair of five-hit games, joining the Cardinals Wally Moon (1954), the Cubs Ken Hubbs (1962), Milwaukee's Rico Carty (1964) and the White Sox Chris Singleton (1999) ... went 5-6 on 6/21 at Colorado and 5-5 on 8/12 at Atlanta, with four of hits coming off Greg Maddux.

An injury to his left hamstring limited him to 28 games with Tucson and six with El Paso ... opened the season with eight hits in his first 16 at-bats ... hit two home runs with five RBI on 4/27 at Salt Lake ... was disabled from 5/8-6/14 with a strained left hamstring ... upon his reinstatement, was 8-19 with five doubles and one home run in five games before tearing the hamstring on 6/22 at San Antonio.
1999
Was limited by injuries to 44 games for Class AA El Paso ... missed the first six weeks of the season with a torn ligament in his left thumb suffered in spring training ... was reinstated on 5/15 and hit .293 before suffering a broken left hamate bone on 7/3 ... missed the rest of the season.
1998
Combined stops in Class A High Desert and Double A Tulsa and accumulated an organization-leading 42 stolen bases and 92 walks ... was Arizona's Minor League Player of the Month for May, hitting .337 with seven RBI and 12 stolen bases while with the Mavericks, earning a spot in the California League All-Star Game, but a finger sprain prevented his participation ... after hitting .281 in 79 games for High Desert, he made the move to Double A, playing on loan with Tulsa of the Texas organization ... hit .311 for Tulsa, but was most impressive in the postseason, hitting .342 in 10 playoff games as the Drillers won the Texas League title.

Spent the entire season at Class A High Desert, hitting .273 for the California League champs ... best stretch was a 16-game hitting streak from July 29-August 15 ...after a hitless game ended the 16-gamer, he immediately began a 10-game string.

Pro career started with the Phoenix (Rookie) club, ranking second in the league with a .333 batting average, while leading the circuit with 11 stolen bases ... earned Organizational Player of the Month for June, then was promoted to Rookie-level Lethbridge.
