Jason Pernell Boyd...Wife's name is Kristi...Has one son; Jay (4/22/02)...Is a 1992 graduate of Edwardsville (IL) High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football...His high school team won 64 straight games and Jason was the winning pitcher in the state record 29th straight victory...Attended John A. Logan College despite drawing the attention of Penn State and Nebraska for his efforts on the gridiron...Compiled a record of 53-5 as a prep and collegiate player, going 29-1 in high school and 24-4 in college...Played both Little League and American Legion Baseball.
2003
Began season with Buffalo (Indians' AAA)...Limited Triple-A hitters to a .222 average (12-for-54) while making nine appearances for the Bisons...Picked up win in season opener on 4/3 vs. Pawtucket...Also earned three saves before being promoted to the Indians on 5/4...Made debut with Cleveland on 5/6 @Anaheim (1.2ip/1er) and then allowed six earned runs in 0.1ip on 5/11 @Texas...Went on to record a 3.38 ERA (48.0ip/18er) over his final 41 appearances...Was ejected from game @Pittsburgh on 6/21 after being removed from his outing; was later suspended three games for bumping into home plate umpire Dana DeMuth following his ejection...Recorded his first American League win and just the second of his career on 6/1 vs. Chicago (AL); was his first big-league victory since 5/12/02, while pitching with San Diego...Made just four appearances during the month of August...Suffered lone "blown save" on 7/29 @Oakland...Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 8/13 with biceps tendinitis in his right shoulder...Was reinstated from the D.L. on 9/1 and made six appearances during the final month of the season...Was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh on 10/1 and was added to the 40-man roster.

Began season with San Diego...Did not allow an earned run in his first four outings (5.0ip) before being scored upon in each of his last five April appearances (6.2ip/9r/9er)...Tossed 9.2 consecutive scoreless innings over a six-game stretch from 5/2-15. ...Picked up first major league victory on 5/12 @Atlanta...Was scored upon in just two of his 13 appearances during the month of May, but surrendered seven runs (five earned) while retiring just one batter on 5/17 vs. New York (NL) and issued three walks and four hits while allowing six runs in 1.0ip on 5/21 @Colorado...Made final appearance with the Padres on 6/3 vs. San Francisco and was charged with five earned runs in 0.2ip...Was outrighted to Portland (Padres' AAA) on 6/4...Worked scoreless relief in 16 of his 19 games with Portland and limited Pacific Coast League hitters to a .200 batting average (19-for-95)...Collected saves in each of his last four appearances before being released on 8/1...Was signed by Boston organization on 8/9 and spent remainder of season pitching with Pawtucket (Red Sox' AAA)...Went 1-1 with five saves and a 2.14 ERA (42.0ip/10er) in 28 minor league games.
