Alan Michael Zinter
Alan and his wife, Yvonne, make their offseason home in Oro Valley, Ari., with their son, Michael August (Nov. 17, 2000), and daughter, Franklyn Pierce (April 16, 2003)...graduated from Hanks High School in El Paso, Texas in 1986, then played three seasons at the University of Arizona, where as a junior he earned All-America honors after batting .352 with 18 homers and 81 RBI...was a member of Team USA in 1988, playing in an international tournament in Taiwan...originally selected by the Padres in the 23rd round of the June 1986 draft.
2005
Spent the season at Triple A Tucson after starting the year as a non-roster invitee to the Arizona Diamondbacks Spring Training...placed on the Disabled List on June 24 for the remainder of the season...batted .292 in April with three doubles, a triple and seven RBI.Williamson...the homer came in his 4,706th professional atbat and his sixth in the Majors.
2004
Began the season with Triple A Tucson before getting called to the Majors for his second tour of duty in his 16th year of professional baseball...he enjoyed a 31game tear in which he hit .430 (43x100) with 30 RBI over 26 contests in May and three in June...he had his contract purchased by Arizona on June 8 and made his Diamondbacks debut that night in Baltimore as a defensive replacement at first base...the following night, he collected his first two big league walks after entering the game as the designated hitter...was the starting DH on June 10 and had an RBI single in the seventh, his first hit and RBI as a Diamondback...placed on the Disabled List on June 20 with a torn left plantar fascia...activated from the DL on Aug. 19, after a five-game rehab stint with Tucson...was the starting first baseman for three games against San Francisco from Sept. 10-12 and hit safely in back-to-back games for the first time in his career...his walk-off, two-run home on Sept. 28 propelled Arizona to a 9-8 victory in 11 innings over Milwaukee...it was the 19th walk-off blast in franchise history, his third career home run and first since Sept. 2, 2002, with Houston off of Texas Chan Ho Park...overall, Alan was 2x17 (.118) with two walks as a pinch hitter...in 54 games for the Sidewinders, he saw action at first base (28 games), third base (10 games), designated hitter (10 games) and catcher (2 games).
2003
Alan appeared in 114 games for Triple A New Orleans (starting 60 games at first base, served as the catcher for 20 games and appeared in 18 games as the designated hitter...he hit .364 (8x22) as a pinch hitter with three home runs...his first long ball off the bench was a pinch slam versus Oklahoma on July 17...he then went deep in consecutive pinch at bats on Aug. 5 and 10...he finished the year 5x9 (.556) with a hit by pitch, three walks, three home runs, and seven RBI in his last 13 plate appearances as a pinch hitter.
2002
A veteran of 14 minor league seasons, Alan had his contract purchased by the Houston Astros on June 16, his first visit to the majors after 1,414 minor league games totaling 4,700 at bats, 1,203 hits, 212 home runs and 777 RBI...he made his big league debut on June 18 at Milwaukee in a pinch-hit role...recorded his first Major League hit and home run on July 1 at Cincinnati off of Scott Williamson...the hit came in his 4,706th professional at bat (sixth big league at bat)...made his first Major League start on July 21 at Chicago, playing first base...Zinter hit his second home run on Sept. 3 at Texas (off of Chan Ho Park).
