Mark Thomas DeRosa... Played college baseball and football at University of Pennsylvania, spurning athletic scholarship offers from Rutgers, Seton Hall and William & Mary... Played 3 seasons of baseball, during which Penn went 75-50 (.600) and captured a pair out outright Ivy League/Lou Gehrig Division titles and shared another in '96 with Princeton... Tallied 102 career RBI and is member of Penn's Baseball Hall of Fame... Was the Quakers' starting quarterback in '94 and '95... Quakers went 16-3 in those 2 seasons, including a perfect 9-0 (7-0 Ivy) mark in '94... In 2 seasons as Penn's quarterback, threw for 3885 yards (4th on Penn's all-time career list) and 29 touchdowns... As a senior in 1995, threw for 2053 yards (7th on Penn's all-time list) and 16 TD's... Threw for a single-game career-best 360 yards on Nov. 19, 1994 against Cornell... 2012

Closed the season on a strong note, batting .316 (6-for-19) in September...Posted 14 walks in 101 plate appearances...Missed 75 games during the campaign due to a pair of stints on the disabled list (left oblique, April 28-June 24; left abdomen, Aug. 5-31).

2011

In 2nd and final year with the Giants, hit .279 in just 46 contests/86 at-bats ... was again plagued by injuries ... two separate DL stints were necessitated by inflammation in left wrist (missed 13 games) and a left wrist strain (69) ... contributed off Bruce Bochy's bench, posting 5 pinch hits and 4 pinch RBI ... hit .400 (14-for-35) with 8 RBI in final 16 contests.

2010

Was limited to just 26 games in his 1st season with San Francisco after having season cut short due to season-ending surgery in July...batted .194 (18-for-93) with 3 2Bs, HR and 10 RBI. Appeared on Opening Day roster for 9th time in his career in his 13th big league season and 15th overall in professional baseball...became 4th different Giant to start in left field on Opening Day in last 4 years (Barry Bonds - 2007, Dave Roberts - 2008 and Fred Lewis - 2009). ... Became just 3rd Giant since 2002 to homer in his debut with team, hitting solo shot in 8th inning off LHP Tim Byrdak in SF's opener on April 5 at Houston...Ray Durham (March 31, 2003 at San Diego) and David Bell (April 2, 2002 at Los Angeles-NL) were last Giants to accomplish feat (Elias)...finished day 1-for-3 with 2 runs. ... Did not start 3 games from April 18-20 due to mild right hamstring strain, suffered by running from 1st to 2nd base in 3rd inning of Giants' 9-0 win over Dodgers on April 17...DeRosa, who prior to injury had never experienced any hamstring or quad issues in his career, said he felt as if he got shot by BB gun...pinch-hit on April 19 at San Diego and struck out with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out...was back in starting lineup on April 21. ... Hit 2-run single off Philadelphia's Roy Halladay in 1st inning on April 26 at AT&T Park to give Giants 2-0 lead in eventual 5-1 victory. ... Missed 8 days from May 9-20 before being officially placed on 15-day disabled list on May 21 with left wrist neuritis...underwent MRI exam May 10 that revealed aggravated nerve in his left wrist...also experienced numbness in ring and pinky fingers of his left hand, which prevented him from swinging bat effectively...underwent surgery Oct. 26, 2009 to repair torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, an injury he sustained soon after joining St. Louis in trade from Cleveland on July 1. ... Flew to Baltimore May 27 to see wrist specialist, Dr. Thomas Graham, who told DeRosa that he would eventually need surgery on his left wrist, but it hadn't reached point where playing could risk full tendon rupture. ... Began rehab assignment May 31 with Class A Advanced San Jose and appeared in just one game, going hitless in 4 at-bats before transferring to triple-A Fresno where he played in 3 games, going 4-for-11 with one RBI. ... Put hault to his rehabilitation assignment and received more medical tests in hopes of discovering why he got pins-and-needles sensation in his hand during baseball activity...ended up having season-ending surgery on July 1 to repair his ruptured tendon sheath and also had his carpal tunnel "released" to allow for better nerve conduction...Dr. Thomas Graham performed both surgeries in his Cleveland office.

2009

Was set to begin his third season with the Chicago Cubs prior to a New Year's eve trade that sent him to the Indians...Owns a .302 career batting average (232-767, .847OPS) against left-handed pitching...Has been clutch with the bases loaded, going 29-76 (.382) with four career home runs in that situation...Owns a .350 batting average (14-40) with a home run and nine RBI in 19 career post-season contests, including a .389 mark (14-36) in 15 Division Series contests... In his 1st season with Chicago, Mark proved to be versatile in field, appearing at 6 different positions in career-high 149 games...batted .317 (44-for-139) with RISP, including .328 (19-for-58) clip with RISP and 2 outs in an inning...played 93 games at 2nd base (88 starts), 37 games at 3rd base (31 starts), 1 game at shortstop, 22 games in right field (13 starts), 1 start in left field and 9 games at 1st base (5 starts)...cracked his 2nd career grand slam June 3 vs. Atlanta...recorded his 500th career major league hit with a 7th inning single June 13 vs. Seattle...had career-high 5 hits Aug. 16 and Sept. 17, both vs. Cincinnati...batted .333 (3-for-9) with 2 runs scored in 3 starts in NLDS against Arizona.

2006

He set career highs in almost every category including 136 games and 520 at-bats. He also set career highs with 78 runs scored, 40 doubles, 13 home runs and 74 RBI. He batted .200 (20-100) in September and .165 over his last 17 games with one multi-hit game. DeRosa spent the last two days under .300 for the first time since April 30. He hit his career-high 40th double 9/19 vs. SEA and was the fourth Ranger to record 40 doubles in 2006. His 74 RBI were more than the 73 he totaled in his last 3 seasons (2003-05) with Atlanta and Texas. He was named Rangers' Player of the Month for August after finishing the month with a batting average of .327 with 5 home runs and a team best 25 RBI. He was named AL Player of the Week for week ending Aug. 13, batting .433 (13-30) with 2 doubles, 4 home runs and 15 RBI. He started at six different positions (1B, 2B, SS, 3B, RF, LF) as well as DH and was the first player in majors to do that this season. He started 20-or-more games at three different positions (2B, 3B, RF), becoming first player in club history to match that feat.

2005

Batted .243 with 8 home runs and 20 RBI in first American League campaign...appeared in 64 games, making 41 starts...started 21 games in right field, 8 at second base, 7 at shortstop, 4 at third base and one as designated hitter.

Tore his right ACL on Sept. 25...batted just .223 before losing his job as the starting third baseman on June 15...matched Atlanta team record with four-error performance at Colorado on May 2...hit .355 (11-for-31) in August.

Filled in for the injured Rafael Furcal at shortstop before switching to a backup role with the acquisition of Rey Sanchez at the trading deadline...Hit .417 (15 x 36) with 2 HR vs. LHP...Hit .370 (10 x 27) with 1 HR with RISP...Hit first Major League home run off Graeme Lloyd leading off 10th inning, to give Braves a 2-1 win over Expos July 21...Had a 10-game hitting streak (16 x 32, .500, 5 R, 5 RBI) June 23-July 13...Stroked 6 straight hits from June 23 at NY through the 7th inning of June 28 game vs. the Mets...Recalled from AAA Richmond June 1...Hit .296 with 2 HR, 17 RBI and 7 SB in 49 games at Richmond.

2000

2000 marked the third straight season in a row that Mark spent time with Atlanta...Was with major league club on three occasions: may 5-21, June 13-29 and Sept. 5-end of season, spending rest of time at AAA...Hit .292 for R-Braves with 3 homers and 35 RBI in 101 games...Compiled a 10-game hitting streak (19 x 42) with Richmond May 30-June 9...Batted .337 at home (61 x 181)...Went 4 x 13 with 1 2B, 3 RBI, and 4 runs in 13 games with Atlanta: All 3 RBI came in May 13 game a 11-2 win May 14 at Philadelphia.

1999

Spent most of season with AAA Richmond. Hit .320 (16 x 50) over first 12 games through April 24. Homered and knocked in a season-high 4 runs May 8 vs. Buffalo. Compiled 8-game hitting streak May 28-June 4 (11 x 27, .407, 1 HR, 8 RBI). Recalled to Atlanta June 9. Went 0 x 8, primarily as a pinch-hitter. Optioned to Richmond July 1. Raised BA from .256 to .285 in first 12 games after return to R-Braves. Had an 8-game hitting streak July 6-16 (15 x 31, .483, 6 RBI). Went 11 x 23 (.478) over 6 games Aug. 7-12. Missed a week after spraining right ankle Aug. 21 at Columbus. Hit .295 after June 1.

1998

Finished 2nd on AA Greenville squad in games (123) and at-bats (462). Struggled early (16 games, 8 x 53, .151), before compiling a 5-game hitting streak April 24-28 (8 x 20, .400), including homers in back-to-back games April 25-26 at Knoxville. Hit safely in 16 of 19 games May 4-24 (24 x 67, .358, 12 RBI). Went 4 x 4 with 2 2B June 7 at Birmingham. Compiled a season-high 14-game hitting streak July 1-17 (24 x 53, .453). Hit .347 vs. LHP and .370 with runners in scoring position and 2 out. Led all Southern League shortstops with a .964 fielding pct. Braves purchased his contract from Greenville Sept. 2. Appeared in 5 games with Atlanta, going 1 x 3.

1997

Hit .269 in 92 games for Class A Durham. Hit for the cycle (2 RBI) May 2 at Wilmington. Broke the hamate bone in his left hand on a check swing at Salem June 28, and went on disabled list the next day. Was in hot stretch immediately before injury, hitting safely in 9 of 10 games (14 x 41, .341). Hit .300 (24 x 80) in June. Came off disabled list Aug. 13, and went 3 x 4 in first game back against Prince William. Named to the Carolina League All-Star game, which was played in Durham.

1996

Began pro career at Eugene (Short A). Compiled a 6-game hitting streak June 17-23 (13 x 25, .520, 2 2B, 7 RBI, 1 SB).
