Wesley Ray Helms...he and his wife, Meredith, have two sons, Wes Jr. and Waylon, and one daughter, Stella...is 1994 graduate of Ashbrook High School (NC), where he played baseball and basketball...was 1993 and 1994 North Carolina State Player of the Year...enrolled in a kickboxing course following the 1995 season to improve his conditioning...is the nephew of former MLB player Tommy Helms.
2011
He had seven hits in 33 at-bats (.212) with four RBI as a pinch hitter, including three doubles and five walks...As a pinch hitter he is the Marlins Franchise leader in hits (56), doubles (13), triples (4) and RBI (38), and is tied with Cody Ross for the lead with four home runs...He made the first two appearances of his career at second base this season. The first came on July 20 against San Diego, in his 1,201st career game. Played in 98 games for the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting .298 with four home runs and 24 RBI...recorded .301 average against lefties, and hit .294 against right-handed pitchers...Ranked second in the Major Leagues with a .381 batting average as a pinch-hitter...only one player, Colorado's Jorge Piedra (.455 / 15x33) had a higher average with at least 25 pinch-hit at bats...led the Brewers with 16 pinch-hits, marking the most pinch-hits by a Brewers player since Lenny Harris had 22 in 2002...Helms' 16 pinch-hits marked the second most in club history...Collected season-high three hits on September 5 at Cincinnati going 3x4...drove in multiple runs five times and plated a season-best three runs on June 30 vs. San Francisco.
