Was one of SF's most durable players, logging 149 games despite knee injury that lingered for season's final 5 months...made 136 starts, including at least 10 opening assignments at all 3 outfield positions (69 in RF, 57 in CF and 10 in LF)...his 359 total chances were tied for 6thmost in NL, while he was 12th with .992 fielding pct. (3 errors)...also tied for 10th in league with club-high 8 OF assists...endured worst offensive season since 2000, batting .262...still ranked 2nd on Giants with 34 2Bs and 3rd with 35 multi-hit contests...however, season was derailed when he fouled ball off his knee May 8 vs. Houston...severe contusion never fully healed, contributing heavily to 2nd-half slump which saw him hit just .249 (57-for-229) with 3 HRs and 19 RBI after All-Star Break...did reach base safely to open 1st inning in 44 of his last 106 starts in leadoff spot, going 33- for-95 (.347) with 22 runs, 9 2Bs, 2 HRs and 11 walks...compiled career-high 12-game hitting streak April 6-20...belted pair of leadoff homers, his 5th and 6th with SF and 10th and 11th of career...went deep to open May 15 game at Houston (off Taylor Buchholz) and to inaugurate Aug. 24 contest vs. Cincinnati (off Eric Milton).

Began year with Seattle, but returned to Bay Area when he was acquired by SF July 30...all told, set career highs in batting avg. (.306), games (160), hits (189), 2Bs (47) and HRs (20)...also scored 85 runs, rapped out 6 3Bs, and stole 19 bases (in 30 attempts)...was truly spectacular after donning Giants uniform, batting .359 (83-for-231) with 39 runs, 22 2Bs, 5 3Bs, 14 HRs, 26 RBI, .391 on-base pct. and .680 slugging mark in 58 games...beginning with SF debut Aug. 2, ranked among baseball's leaders in avg. Was Seattle's Opening Day center fielder, after serving as club's starting left fielder in 2003...made 119 starts in CF, with 32 opening assignments in LF...enjoyed excellent season at plate, batting .286 while matching career high with 14 HRs and setting standard with 81 RBI...also matched career high with 157 games played...opened season slowly, batting .243 (42-for-173) over 1st 2 months, while going 191 at-bats before initial clout of season...however, beginning with 4-for-5 effort with HR June 6 vs. White Sox, hit at .308 clip (135-for-438) over his final 106 contests...compiled season-high 11-game hitting streak July 16-26, going 15-for-43 (.349) over stretch...matched career high with 5 hits Aug. 21 at Detroit, finishing contest 5-for-6 with 2B, HR and 4 RBI...belted walk-off, 2-run clout in 2nd game of Aug. 28 doubleheader vs. Kansas City, giving M's 5-3 victory...hit at .308 clip (48-for-156) with RISP.
