Prolific minor league power hitter comes to Spring Training as non-roster invitee after capturing 2006 Pacific Coast League Player of Year honors while in Oakland organization...17-year professional veteran has hammered 231 career home runs in 1,504 minor league games, while adding another 71 clouts in 320 contests playing for Seibu in Japan...including time overseas, corner infielder has compiled 9 seasons with at least 20 HRs, and trio of 30-clout campaigns...went 3-for-34 (.118) with RBI in 22 career ML games with Tampa Bay (1998) and Chicago Cubs (2005)...originally drafted by Baltimore out of high school in 1990 draft, has spent time in Orioles (1990-96), Mets (1997), Devil Rays (1998-99), Rockies (2000), Cubs (2005) and Athletics (2006) organizations. Graduated from Atascadero (CA) High School, where he played both baseball and football...standout high school quarterback, turned down football scholarship to University of Southern California when he signed with Baltimore in 1990...married ( Jennifer)...daughter (Kennedy, Feb. 22, 2006).

Spent lone campaign with Oakland organization and was named Pacific Coast League Player of Year after batting .252 with 33 2Bs, 28 HRs and 107 RBI in 140 games with triple-A Sacramento...was 3rd in league for HRs, RBI, extra-base hits (61) and total bases (255), while ranking 5th for 2Bs.
2005
Returned to the United States in 2005 after four seasons in Japan, signing a minor league contract with the Cubs on February 8...was selected from Triple-A Iowa on August 27 and went 2 for 14 (.143) in 13 games with Chicago...made his first appearance in a Major League game since 1998 as a defensive replacement at first base on August 28 against Florida at Wrigley Field...his last ML appearance was September 27, 1998 while playing for Tampa Bay at Yankee Stadium...had his first ML at bat since 1998 when he pinch hit on August 29 against Los Angeles...he reached on an error, but earned an RBI for his first career RBI...recorded his first hit as a Cub on August 30 against Los Angeles with a pinch hit double...it was his first hit since September 25, 1998 and his first career pinch hit...spent most of the season at Iowa where he batted .291 with 27 doubles, 30 home runs and 93 RBI in 121 games...was named Iowa's Most Valuable Player...led the Cubs farm system in home runs and ranked second in RBI...tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in home runs...batted .339 (40 for 118) with 11 home runs against left-handed pitching and .272 (83 for 305) with 19 home runs against right-handers...batted .345 (40 for 116) with runners in scoring position...batted .300 in three months, including .319 in May, .321 in June and .320 in August...hit in every spot in the order except first and second...saw his most action with 40 games in the five spot (50 for 156, .321)...appeared in 69 games at third base, 45 at first base and three at shortstop...also went 13 for 29 (.448) with three home runs and eight RBI in seven games at designated hitter...had a grand slam on May 26 against Sacramento...drove in a season high five runs on June 20 at Nashville, going 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs...had a 14-game hitting streak from June 19-July 3...batted .418 (23 for 55) with seven home runs and 22 RBI over the stretch...was named PCL Batter of the Week for June 20 to 26, batting .467 (14 for 30) with four home runs and 15 RBI.
2004
Signed a Minor League contract with the Chicago Cubs organization following the 2003 season but was released in April and returned to Japan for a fourth season...hit .184 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 35 games with Seibu.
2003
Appeared in 131 games for the Seibu Lions in the Japanese Leagues...hit .225 with 26 home runs and 69 RBI...committed just eight errors in 110 games at third base...also played in 13 games at first base, committing one error.
2002
Struggled through an injury plagued season in his second year with Seibu in Japan...hit .238 with two home runs and five RBI...saw action in just 19 games.
2001
Went to Japan to play for Seibu and hit a career high 39 home runs...batted .247 with 87 RBI in 135 games for the Lions.

Played in 137 games for Triple-A Durham in his last season with the Tampa Bay organization and earned a spot on the International League All-Star team...batted .251 with 28 home runs and 104 RBI...had three months of 25 or more RBI...hit a pair of grand slams, connecting on April 26 against Toledo and June 18 against Norfolk...over a 12-game stretch from May 7 to 21, he batted .468 (22 for 47) with five home runs and 18 RBI...had 11 RBI over a two-game stretch at Syracuse, May 15-16.

Saw his first Major League action, appearing in nine games for Tampa Bay and going 2 for 20 (.100)...was on the Devil Rays roster from May 14 to 31 and September 19 through the end of the season...made his ML debut on May 14 against Kansas City as a pinch hitter...collected his first hit on May 24, a single off Seattle's Randy Johnson...spent most of the season at Triple-A Durham where he hit .299 with 35 doubles, 34 home runs and 109 RBI...was an International League All-Star at Durham, tying for second in the league in home runs and RBI.
