Graduated from Boone High School in Orlando, FL...as a junior in 1994 led Florida State University to the College World Series and threw a 6-3 victory over LSU...was FSU's only victory in the '94 CWS...that season was named to *Baseball America*'s All-America squad after he went 13-5, 2.08 with 9cg in 19 starts (143ip, 106h, 32bb, 161k)...in his career at FSU went 27-11, 2.36 in 56 apps, including 3-1, 4.34 with 1 save as a freshman and 11-5, 1.94 as a sophomore...in September 2000 was inducted into the Florida State Hall of Fame.
2006
Spent the season on the disabled list while recovering from 6/17/05 right shoulder surgery... made 4 rehabilitation apps and went 1-3, 4.50 at Class AAA Louisville, Class A Sarasota and Class A Dayton... made his first rehab start on 4/27 for Dayton, then on 5/2 started at Louisville...on 5/5 was recalled from his rehab assignment because of a fatigued shoulder...didn't pitch again until 7/14 for Sarasota...made his final appearance of the season on 7/20 for Louisville...was transfered to the 60-day DL on 6/15, when the Reds acquired IF Juan Castro from the Twins.
2005
On 6/17 had season-ending arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn rotator cuff and frayed labrum in his right shoulder...on 5/25 went on the 15-day disabled list...on 6/17 was transfered to the 60-day DL...earned the 6-4 victory vs Pit on 4/20, then in his last 5 starts of the season went 0-4, 10.07...made his last appearance of the season on 5/16 in a 9-2 loss at NYM...produced 4 quality starts (6ip, 3er)...in his 9 starts the Reds went 2-7...in the 7-6 win on 4/4 vs NYM allowed 3er in 6ip to become the first Reds pitcher with a quality start on Opening Day since Jose Rijo in 1993 vs Mtl...was his first career Opening Day start, and the Reds scored 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a 2-run HR by Adam Dunn and a solo HR by Joe Randa...in his 13-6 loss on 5/6 vs LA faced only 8 batters, all of whom reached base and scored...tied for the shortest start of his career (7/10/03 at Hou, 8bf)...overall the Dodgers scored 10 runs in the top of the first, tying an LA record for runs in an inning...Cin allowed 10 runs in the first inning for the first time since the Dodgers' 15-run first on 5/21/52 at Ebbets Field.

Was named winner of the Johnny Vander Meer Award as the Reds' most outstanding pitcher in voting of the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America...led the Reds in starts (29), quality starts (16), innings pitched (183.2) and victories (11)...his 11 wins were a single-season career high...in 10 starts between his ninth and 10th victories went 0-4, 6.52 and twice was the victim of blown saves...from 8/14-8/31 was on the disabled list with low back soreness...went 9-4, 4.54 in 23 starts before he went on the DL and 2-2, 3.73 in 6 starts after he was reinstated from the DL...finished the season with 4 consecutive quality starts (2-0, 1.74)...in his 29 starts the Reds went 16-13 and scored 151 runs (5.2 r/g)...6 times was the victim of blown saves, including a 10-inning, 10-9 loss on 4/28 at Mil during which the Reds failed to hold a 9-run lead for the first time since 9/28/30 at Chi...among all Major League pitchers, only Cle's Jason Davis (7bs), SD's David Wells (7bs) and Mtl's Livan Hernandez (7bs) were victimized more...in the 5-1 victory vs Pit on 10/1, his final appearance of the season, threw a 5-hitter for his only complete game (0bb, 7k, 114 pitches)...allowed only a seventh-inning solo HR by Craig Wilson...a 7-4 loss on 6/22 at NYM snapped his 9-game winning streak covering 2 seasons...prior to that loss had gone 9-0, 3.13 in 17 starts since a 2-0 loss vs Ari on 8/12/03...was a career-high winning streak and the longest by a Reds pitcher since RHP Scott Sullivan won 10 straight decisions from 6/22/01-5/13/02...was the first Reds pitcher to begin a season 7-0 since reliever Danny Graves went 8-0 in 2000 and the first starter to do it since RHP Mike LaCoss went 8-0 in 1979...that 7-game winning streak was a single-season career high...from 5/8-5/25 produced a career-high 4-start winning streak...on 4/7 vs Chi, in his first appearance of the season, threw 7.0 scoreless innings in the 3-1 victory (4h, 1bb, 6k)...was his first start without allowing a run since his final start of the 2001 season (10/7/01 vs NYY, 7ip)...on 4/12 at Phi started the inaugural regular season game at Citizens Bank Park and earned the 4-1 victory...in his 3-1 victory on 5/20 vs Col, Graves established the club record with his 149th career save...in consecutive starts on 8/7 at Col and 8/13 vs SD allowed 14er in 6.2ip...made his shortest start of the season in that 14-5 loss to the Padres (1.1ip, 8h, 7er, 3bb, 0k, 2hr, 63 pitches)...in the first inning allowed 5 runs before he recorded an out, including a 3-run HR by Brian Giles and a 2-run HR by Ryan Klesko...the next day went on the 15-day disabled list with low back soreness...his overall ERA without those 2 apps drops to 3.81.

Didn't pitch after 9/2 because of biceps tendinitis in the front of his right shoulder...at the time of the injury led the staff in starts (28), innings pitched (166.2) and strikeouts (93)...finished the season as the staff leader in starts and strikeouts and ranked second in IP to Danny Graves (169.2)...also led the staff with 17 quality starts (6ip, 3er), including 6 consecutive quality starts in August (2-2, 2.29)...the rest of the staff finished with 39 quality starts combined...pitched into the seventh inning in 13 of his 28 starts...in 14 of his 28 starts allowed at least 1 run in the first inning; in 7 starts allowed at least 3 runs in the first, including a start on 7/10 at Hou in which he was charged with a season-high 8 first-inning runs (7er) without retiring a batter... overall posted an 11.67era in the first inning and a 3.29era after the first inning...3 times was the victim of blown saves...in his 28 starts the Reds went 15-13...made 3 starts on 3 days' rest, the first of his career (1-1, 6.43, 14ip, 10er)...on 6/19 vs Chi, in his first career start on 3 days' rest earned the 3-1 victory (7ip, 3h, 1er, 1bb, 4k)...while batting in the seventh inning of that game was ejected after he fought with Kyle Farnsworth following Farnsworth's high inside pitch on Wilson's sac bunt attempt...was suspended for 5g and served that suspension from 6/26-7/1...on 7/10 at Hou, failed to retire a batter in the 11-2 loss (8bf, 6h, 8r, 7er, 1bb, 0k, Olmedo error, 41 pitches)...left trailing, 6-0, but was charged with 2 more runs scored off John Riedling...the Astros scored a franchise-record 9 runs in the first inning...were the most first-inning runs by a Reds opponent since the Padres scored 9 runs on 5/3/69 at Crosley Field...made his last appearance of the season on 9/2 at Mil, received no decision in the 4-3 loss (5ip, 7h, 3er, 4bb, 5k, Ginter HR)...following an examination 2 days later was advised to miss 2 starts, but on 9/8 was told to rest his shoulder the remainder of the season...during spring training didn't pitch in a Major League game for the Reds...began the spring sidelined by a strained rib cage muscle in his left side, then on 3/11 suffered a strained left hamstring.
2002
While pitching for the Devil Rays established career highs with 30 starts and 193.2ip...threw at least 6.0 innings in 23 of his 30 starts, including a stretch from 7/3-8/24 during which he pitched into the seventh inning in 10 straight starts...entered his final start, on 9/27 at Bos, needing 7.2 innings to reach 200 for the season but lasted just 4 outs in the shortest start of his career to that point...in his last 6 starts went 0-4, 11.57 and raised ERA from 3.80 to season-ending 4.83...went 4-1, 2.72 in 6 starts vs Bal and 2-11, 5.44 in 24 starts vs all other teams...the 4 wins vs Bal was a single-season club record for wins against any opponent.
2001
Made 37 apps, including 24 starts, in his first full Major League season since his rookie year in 1996... ranked fifth in the American League with 13hbp...his 2.39era the second half of the season was the fifth-best in the majors...posted a 2.36era in his last 18 apps of the season, including 12 starts...from 7/4-7/31 threw 17.0 consecutive scoreless innings, 1.0ip shy of the club record (Rolando Arrojo, 18ip, 1998).
2000
Made 18 starts in the Mets' minor league system before he was acquired by the Devil Rays on 7/28... made his first 4 apps for TB in relief (0-2, 3.60) and his last 7 apps as a starter (1-4, 3.29)...on 8/4 vs Bal made his first ML appearance since 9/26/96 at Hou, a span of almost 4 years...on 9/25 at Tor beat the Blue Jays, 5-1, for his first victory in 1,465 days (since 9/20/96 at Phi).

In his Major League debut went 5-12, 5.38 with 1cg in 26 starts for the Mets...from 6/9-7/15 was on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder, an injury that would lead to off-season surgery...made his Major League debut on 4/4/96 vs StL...on 4/22 vs Cin, in his fourth career start, earned his first ML victory...on 5/3 at Chi recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts but suffered the 4-2 loss on Sammy Sosa's 2-out, 3-run HR in the bottom of the ninth inning...on 9/20 at Phi homered off Michael Mimbs...following the season had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder.
1995
Led all minor league pitchers with 194 strikeouts and 186.2 innings...led the Eastern League with a 2.17era...threw a pair of 1-hitters, on 5/8 for Binghamton vs Reading and on 8/22 for Norfolk vs Charlotte...on 5/19 at New Britain recorded 17 strikeouts, a Binghamton record and tied for the most in the minors in '95.
