Despite playing in 95 games, Rondell was one of the Cubsb top offensive performers batting, .307 (99-for-323) with 19 doubles, 17 homers and 50 RBI...also batted .358 (29-for-81) with runners in scoring position...appeared in just 95 games (88 starts), as he missed most of the second half with a strained left groin muscle...started 66 of the Cubsb first 74 games before going on the disabled list from June 26-July 12 with the groin injury...after just two starts (July 12-13), he returned to the DL after reaggravating the injury and was out of action until September 1...in 28 games leading up to the injury, he had batted .386 (39-for-101) with nine homers, eight doubles and 20 RBI...in 22 games after coming off the DL, he hit .323 (21-for-65) with four homers and 14 RBI...made his sixth career Opening Day start April 2, going 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI against his former Montreal teammates...hit his first homer of the season on April 9 at Montreal (off Britt Reames) in his first atbat as a visiting player at Olympic Stadium...had a career-high 17-game hitting streak from May 23-June 13, batting .439 (29-for-66) with nine homers and 19 RBI...as part of the stretch, he homered in three consecutive contests from June 9-12...was named the National Leaguebs Player of the Week for the week of June 4-10 b the second time he won the leaguebs weekly award...over a six-game span against St. Louis and the White Sox, he went 11-for-22 with four homers, seven RBI, a 1.091 slugging percentage and a .607 on-base percentage...his 10th-inning RBI single on June 7 scored Sammy Sosa with the winning run in a 4-3 victory over St. Louis...had a four-RBI game September 19 at Cincinnati, going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a run-scoring single and a runscoring ground out...the next afternoon against the Reds, he went 4- for-4 with a homer and two RBI.

Split the season between the Expos and Cubs, batting .311 (111- for-357) with 26 doubles, 13 homers and 61 RBI...was acquired from Montreal 7/31 in exchange for RHP Scott Downs...hit .328 in 19 games for the Cubs before his season came to an early close...on 9/26 vs. Los Angeles, he dislocated his left shoulder sliding headfirst into second base during a steal attempt...after going RBI-less during his first 14 games with the Cubs, he ended the drought on 8/22 at Houston, going 4-for-5 with 2 homers (both off Brian Powell) and 4 RBI...it was his seventh career 2-homer game...was on the disabled list at the time of his trade to the Cubs (was placed on the DL July 8 with a strained right hamstring)...after being activated on 8/6, he made his Cubs debut that day in San Diego as a pinch hitter...with the Expos, he batted .307 in 75 games with 24 doubles, 11 homers and 54 RBI...on 6/16 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, he went 4-for-5 with 4 R, 2 HR and 4 RBI...his second homer that day b a solo shot off Todd Van Poppel b was the 100th roundtripper of his Major-League career...for the season, he made just one error in 92 starts in leftfield (204 total chances)...underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on 10/20 (Dr. Michael Schafer).
1999
Batted a career-high .312 in 138 games with 26 doubles, 6 triples, 22 homers and 64 RBI...batted out of the leadoff spot in 49 games, hitting .321 in those contests...led off three games with homers (8/13 off Colorado's Jamey Wright, 8/18 off San Francisco's Russ Ortiz, and 9/25 off Atlanta's Terry Mulholland) b giving him five for his career... went deep in three consecutive contests 8/13 (doubleheader) and 8/14 at Colorado...reached the 20-homer run mark for the second time in his career on 9/11, going deep off San Diego's Andy Ashby...started 68 games in centerfield and 66 games in leftfield...was on the disabled list twice due to a strained right hamstring (6/14-29, and 7/2-17)...suffered the injury on 6/13 while running for a ball in leftfield.
1998
Was hitting .300 on 7/20 when his season came to an abrupt end when he fractured his right ring finger attempting to catch a Mike Lieberthal line drive vs. Philadelphia...also tore ligaments in the finger...underwent surgery on 7/24 in which a pin was inserted to stabilize the fracture...the pin was removed five weeks later...the surgery was performed by Dr. Jorge Schwarz and Dr. Larry Coughlin...started Montreal's first 96 games (81 in center, 15 in left)...then, after taking a day off, he suffered his season-ending injury in his next contest...homered in three consecutive games for the first time during his career from 6/17-19.
1997
Appeared in a career-high 151 games and hit .270 with 29 doubles, 28 homers and 82 RBI...was utilized solely in centerfield and led N.L. outfielders in fielding percentage (.992), total chances (385) and putouts (376)...his fielding percentage was the top mark in Expos history for a centerfielder...tied a club record with 7 at-bats in a 9-inning game 5/7 at San Francisco...had four hitsbincluding a homerband 3 runs scored in the Expos' 19-3 win.
1996
Despite spending two months of the season on the disabled list, he hit .293 in 88 games with 29 extra-base hits and 14 steals...on 4/27 at Coors Field, he made a spectacular warning track diving catch of a Larry Walker drive...in the process, he bruised his left kidney and spleen...was out of action until July 16...hit his second career grand slam on 8/18 off Los Angeles' Tom Candiotti.
1995
Batted .295 with 33 doubles, 13 homers and 57 RBI during his first full season in the Majors...hit for the cycle on 6/ 11 at San Francisco, going 6-for-7 with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI...was just the second player in modern history to collect 6 hits in a game while hitting for the cycle, joining Detroit's Bobby Veach (1920)...set an Expos franchise record for hits in a game and tied a club mark for runs scored...the previous day, he scored 4 runs against the Giants...his 2-game totals: 8-for-11, 9 runs scored, 5 extra-base hits, 6 RBI...for his efforts, he won the N.L. Player of the Week Award for 6/5-11... his first hit of the campaign--in his first start of the season--was a solo homer off the Cubs' Kevin Foster on 4/28 at Wrigley Field...hit his first career grand slam 5/28 off Los Angeles' Felix Rodriguez...stole home as part of a double steal on 8/29 at San Diego.
1994
Split the season between Montreal and the Expos' Ottawa (AAA) club, playing in 82 total games...was on the Expos' Opening Day roster...batted .278 in 40 games for the Expos and .272 in 42 Triple-A affairs...on 7/24 vs. Los Angeles, he went 4-for-5 with a double and a homer, and drove in all seven Montreal runs in a 7-4 victory.
1993
Played for Harrisburg (AA) and Ottawa (AAA) en route to reaching the majors...was recalled by the Expos in September and hit .260 in 23 games with two homers and 15 RBI...made his M.L. debut on 9/1 at Colorado, starting in leftfield...picked up his first 2 hits in his second start 9/3 at Houston (both off Darryl Kile)...hit his first Major-League homer on 9/4 off Houston's Greg Swindell...on 9/6 against the Rockies at Olympic Stadium, he dislocated the little finger of his left hand while making a diving catch...returned to action as a pinch hitter the next night...had his first 4-hit game on 9/24 at New York...batted .328 in 90 games for Harrisburg and .380 in 37 games for Ottawa...at Harrisburg, he was named to the Eastern League and Double-A all-star teams...also earned "Star of Stars" recognition as the league's all-star game MVP.
