Along with his 4-2 record and 2.38 ERA, posted a then-career-high 42 saves, the 2nd-highest total in Cincinnati history...his .857 save percentage (42 of 49) tied for first in the N.L...did not become the club's closer until Jeff Brantley went on the disabled list on May 20, but still led the N.L. in saves and Rolaids Relief Man Award points standings, becoming the 2nd consecutive Reds pitcher to win both titles...Brantley shared the N.L. lead in 1996 with a team-record 44 saves while winning the N.L.
