Jason David Schmidt...he and his wife, Bethany, have one daughter, Makynlee Taylor (1/14/01) and two sons, Mason Tyler (1/29/04) and Madden (4/22/07)...graduate of Kelso (WA) High School, where he played baseball, football, and basketball... named Washington's Gatorade State Player of the Year and All-State MVP in baseball in 1991...also tossed prep no-hitter as senior, striking out 20 of 21 batters faced...was offered a scholarship to the University of Arizona, but signed with Atlanta in 1991... was Giants' recipient of the 2003 Roberto Clemente Award given to the individuals who best exemplify the game of baseball, sportsmanship, and community involvement...donated $75,000 worth of tickets each year from 2004-06 to City Ministries International and Giants Community Fund...has taped a public service announcement for Genentech's Strike Out Cancer program and participated in the Giants' Strike Out Cancer Day at AT&T Park...attended the annual Dodger Holiday Party for kids on Dec. 14, 2006.

Did not appear in a game for the Dodgers while still recovering from June 20, 2007 right shoulder surgery that repaired a torn labrum and frayed biceps tendon...began the season on the 15-day disabled list...Went on rehabilitation assignments on three different occasions in hopes of returning to a Major League mound...Season officially ended after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on Sept. 10...the 60-minute procedure to clean up scar tissue was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache...it was also found that the labrum that was repaired in 2007 was completely healed...In four starts overall with Single-A Inland Empire, posted no record and a 3.48 ERA... in five starts overall with Triple-A Las Vegas, went 0-1 with a 7.30 ERA...last appeared on the mound on Aug. 29 vs. Colorado Springs, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning...Was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on May 20, creating a 40-man roster spot for Danny Ardoin, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Las Vegas that day to replace the injured Gary Bennett
2007
Won his first start in a Dodger uniform, beating the Brewers in Milwaukee on April 4...gave up just one run and struck out five in 5.0 innings...homered off Colorado's Jeff Francis in the Dodgers' home opener on April 9, the seventh home run of his career...was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 17 after just three starts with inflammation in his right shoulder...made one rehab start on May 30 at Single-A Inland Empire and pitched 6.0 scoreless innings...allowed just two hits, and struck out seven batters...missed 45 games before returning to the mound on June 5 at San Diego and had a dominant outing, giving up one hit and no runs in 6.0 innings of work...picked up the no-decision in a game the Dodgers went on to lose...was placed on the disabled list for the second time on June 18 and had season-ending right shoulder surgery on June 20 to remove scar tissue from the bursa sac, repair a frayed biceps tendon, and repair a torn labrum...surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Spent 1st full season in majors and went 10-9 with 4.60 ERA in 32 starts...was ejected by Jerry Layne for hitting St. Louis' Mike DiFelice in 2nd inning June 4...tossed complete game in 6-1 win vs. New York June 27...hurled 2nd-straight complete game with season-high 10 strikeouts July 2 vs. Chicago (AL), defeating White Sox 3-1...became 1st Pittsburgh pitcher since Tim Wakefield in 1993 to toss back-to-back complete games.
1996
Began season in Atlanta's starting rotation and went 2-1 with 5.57 ERA (13er, 21.0ip) in 5 games (4 starts)...was optioned to triple-A Richmond May 11...went 2-0 with 1.57 ERA (5er, 28.2ip) in 4 starts for Richmond before being recalled by Braves June 4...was placed on Disabled List with stress fracture in left rib cage July 15...went 1-0 with 4.74 ERA (10er, 19.0ip) in 4 rehab starts...was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh Aug. 30, completing trade which sent Denny Neagle to Atlanta Aug. 28...received no-decision in 1st start with Pittsburgh Sept. 1 vs. Houston...recorded 1st win as Pirate Sept. 12 at San Francisco and won again in his next start, Sept. 18 vs. Cincinnati...went combined 5-6 with 5.70 ERA in 19 Major League games (17 starts).

Spent entire season with double-A Greenville...ranked 3rd in Southern League with 131 strikeouts, while his 8.4 strikeouts-per 9.0 innings ratio was 2nd best among league's starters...won his only playoff start Sept. 5 at Carolina, allowing 1 earned run in 7.2 innings.
