Olmedo Sanchez Saenz...he and his wife, Sylvia, have a son, Juan Carlos (9/24/92) and daughter, Jaquelyn (5/15/02)...owns a ranch in his native Panama...he is one of four Panamanian players in Dodger franchise history, along with Roberto Kelly, Manuel Barrios and Einar Diaz...took part in the Play Ball L.A. clinic at Ritchie Valens Recreation Center in Pacoima on May 14...participated in the Clayton Baseball Clinic in Panama on Nov. 8, 2005 with President George W. Bush and fellow Panamanians Mariano Rivera, Carlos Lee and Einar Diaz...on Aug. 14, 2006 visited youngsters and read to students at Union Avenue Elementary School...originally signed by White Sox scout Miguel Ibarra.

The Dodgers' primary pinch-hitter posted his third straight solid season in Los Angeles, hitting .296 (53-for-179) with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs in 103 games. His .564 slugging percentage was a career high. His 15 pinch-hits were tied for second in the NL and tied for third place on the Los Angeles Dodgers' single-season list. Made 20 starts at first base, nine at third base and two as the designated hitter. Had 15 RBIs off the bench, the third most in the NL and third in L.A. Dodger history. Crushed left-handed pitching with a .397 average (23-for-58), five homers and a .741 slugging percentage. Batted .303 (30-for-99) with runners on base, .448 (13-for-29) on the first pitch. During a four-game series in Pittsburgh from April 10-13, went 8-for-14 (.571) with two homers, two doubles and seven RBIs. Hit his 10th career pinch-hit homer on Aug. 30, his 33rd career pinch-hit as a Dodger, tying him with George Shuba, Len Gabrielson and Lee Lacy for ninth place on the all-time franchise pinch-hit list. ... Ranked second on the Dodgers in RBI (63), fourth in slugging percentage (.480) and tied for second in homers (15) ... Made 52 starts at first base, 15 at third base and eight as the designated hitter ... Batted .300 (51-for-170) on the road, .287 (43-for-150) with runners on base, .333 (31-for-93) with runners in scoring position and .356 (16-for-45) with runners in scoring position and two outs ... Missed much of the season following Achilles heel surgery ... Batted .306 with two home runs and eight RBI in 14 games during a rehabilitation assignment with the Rookie-level Arizona Athletics and Single-A Modesto ... For the Arizona A's, batted .333 with two home runs and eight RBI in 13 games, reaching base safely via hit or walk in 10 of those games...was 0-for-4 with an RBI in one game for Modesto.

2002

Appeared in 68 games for Oakland, compiling a .276 average with six homers and 18 RBI ... Batted .317 (20-for-63) vs. left-handed pitchers...hit .295 (26-for-88) in home games ... Was 5-for-20 as a pinch-hitter with two pinch-hit homers and three RBI off the bench ... Appeared in one game during the American League Division Series against Minnesota and drew a walk...in the game, suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon while running out a grounder that ended up going foul and was sidelined for the remainder of the postseason and most of 2003.

2001

Saw significant playing time early in the season as the A's designated hitter but he began to struggle offensively...as his playing time decreased, his average began to improve...batted .220 in 106 games, his lowest batting average in his three seasons with the A's...had career highs in games (106), at bats (305) and doubles (21)...was 3 for 9 (.333) with the bases loaded but hit a team low .110 (8 for 73) with runners in scoring position...now has a .196 (44 for 224) career average with RISP...hit .227 (41 for 181) with five home runs and 16 RBI in 58 games, 47 starts at designated hitter but also made 14 starts at first base and 11 at third base...was also used as the A's clean-up hitter early on but hit .198 (20 for 101) with two home runs and seven RBI in 30 games, 27 starts in the four spot...started 16 of the A's first 17 games at designated hitter but hit just .218 (12 for 55) with a home run and four RBI...a 10 for 27 (.370) surge from April 28 to May 8 put his average at the .244 mark when John Jaha was activated from the disabled list on May 9...that included a career high tying three hits on May 1 against Toronto...put together a career high 10 game hitting streak from May 26 to June 5 (13 for 37, .351) to up his average to .250...then went 13 for 81 (.160) over his next 28 games through July 24...was batting .218 with five home runs and 18 RBI and appeared in 71 of the A's 100 games through the 24th...after the acquisition of Jermaine Dye on July 25 he appeared in just 18 of the A's next 36 games...hit .351 (13 for 37) over that span...including a .344 (11 for 32) mark in August with three home runs and 11 RBI in 16 games...the RBI were his most ever in a month and the home runs tied his most ever (July, 2000)...then went 5 for 43 (.116) over his final 17 games...was 0 for his first 8 as a pinch hitter before singling off Rincon on July 31 at Cleveland...dropped to 1 for 12 in the pinch before collecting three consecutive pinch hits from August 14 to 18...including his second career pinch hit home run on August 14 at Toronto...it gave the A's a 3-2 lead in a game they would go on to lose 6-3...ended up going 6 for 25 (.240) with the home run and four RBI as a pinch hitter for the A's...led the A's in pinch hits for the second consecutive season and is now a .277 (18 for 65) career hitter in the pinch...hit his second career game ending home run on September 9 against Tampa Bay, a solo shot in the bottom of the 13th inning of the A's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay...five of his nine home runs came in the seventh inning or later...went 0 for 4 in three games against New York in the ALDS, including 0 for 3 as a pinch hitter.

Three of his four pinch RBI on the season either tied the game or put the A's ahead ... Batted .400 (8-for-20) in the pinch for the season which led the American League (minimum 20 at bats) ... Hit the game winning three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth on May 12 in the A's 9-7 win over Seattle ... Went 3-for-4 with a home run against San Francisco on June 2 and batted .441 (15-for-34) in Interleague Play with three home runs and nine RBI in 13 games ... Made one rehab appearance at Sacramento on Aug. 30 and was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI before re-injuring the hamstring ... Hit a pinch hit home run in his final at bat of the regular season on Oct. 1 against Texas, the first of his career ... Was hit by a pitch a team leading 15 times which was second only in Oakland history to Don Baylor's 20 in 1976 ... Ranked tied for fourth in the American League in hit by pitches ... Ranked tied for second in the majors during spring training in RBI (24) and runs scored (21) and tied for fifth in home runs (6) ... Went 0 for 3 in his first regular season start but then had a three-hit performance in his second start on April 10 at Seattle ... Had the first three RBI of his career on April 14 against Anaheim and all three either tied the game or put the A's ahead ... For the season, 15 of his 41 RBI either tied the game or put the A's ahead ... Hit his first major league home run on April 26 off the Indians Mark Langston ... Spent the entire season at Triple-A Calgary in the Chicago White Sox organization ... Hit a career high 29 home runs after posting just 58 round trippers over his first seven professional seasons ... Also posted professional bests in runs (89), hits (146) and RBI (102) ... Led the Cannons in runs, home runs and RBI ... Was hit by a pitch 22 times which tied for fourth most in the minors ... Was fourth in the PCL in runs, tied for fourth in home runs and ranked sixth in RBI ... Appeared in just 16 games in July but still hit .403 with seven home runs and 19 RBI ... Homered in three consecutive games July 25-27 at Tucson and July 29-31 at Albuquerque ... Batted .378 (42 for 111) against left handed pitching and .293 (104 for 355) with 23 of his 29 home runs against right handers ... Made 113 of his 124 appearances at third base ... Also hit .417 in 10 games as designated hitter and was 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter ... Batted .326 with 6 HR and 25 RBI in 37 games for La Guaira in Venezuela during the winter.

1997

Missed the majority of the season after suffering a torn achilles tendon in spring training ... Returned late in the season to appear in two games with Rookie Sarasota in the Gulf Coast League ... Played for Licey in the Dominican Winter League, hitting .182 (8 for 44) in 14 games.

Ranked third in the American Association with 86 runs scored at Triple-A Nashville ... Was second on the club with 18 home runs ... Also set a personal best with 29 doubles ... His home run total tied for sixth in the Sox organization and his runs scored total was fourth ... Posted three two-homer games (last on August 11 at Buffalo) and drove in a season-high five runs on May 22 at Iowa ... Posted 33 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI contests.

Ranked fifth in the American Association in RBI (74) and seventh in hitting (.304) ... His 74 RBI at Nashville topped the Sounds and ranked fifth in the organization ... His .304 average ranked second on the team and fifth in the organization ... Had a team-high 40 multi-hit games, including two four-hit games and four three-hit efforts ... Batted .335 (95 for 284) with 19 doubles, 10 home runs, 51 RBI and 47 runs scored after May 31 ... Was named the A.A.
