Resides in Carnation, Wash. with his wife, Colette and their four daughters: Chandler Grace (10/13/95), Gabrielle Victoria (8/25/97), Emily Elizabeth (6/14/99) and Alexandra Noel (12/16/00)...graduated from Cantonsville H.S. (MD) in 1984, where he was named All-Baltimore County...attended Cantonsville Community College...his uncle, Cole Nelson, played in the Washington Senators organization...received the 1992 "Star of the Future" award from the Maryland Professional Baseball Players Association at their annual "Tops in Sports" banquet...has refereed and coached youth basketball in the offseason.
2006
Signed a Minor League contract with the White Sox on May 2 and went to extended Spring Training. Joined the Major League club from Triple-A Charlotte on May 23. Was played on the 15-day disabled list on June 4 with an elbow injury, bringing an end to his season. Posted a 3.38 ERA in six games for the White Sox, striking out two and walking five over 2 2/3 innings.

Again proved to be the top right-handed set-up man in baseball, going 8-4, 2.45 ERA in 73 appearances...his eight wins were a single-season career high...was 6th in the AL in games...was 4-0, 1.98 in April, becoming only the fifth AL pitcher to record four wins out of the bullpen in April (ML record is five by Atlanta's Cecil Upshaw in 1971)b&was scored on in just two of first 21 appearances through May 19 (3 ER, 23.1 IP)...lost 3-2 on May 20 in Cleveland, snapping a career-high seven-game win streak dating back to 8/30/99 vs. Oakland...was 2-1, 1.20 in May (2 ER, 15.0 IP)...made 500th career appearance July 5 vs. Baltimore...ejected Aug. 7 vs. Seattle by HP umpire Mark Carlson...earned his career-high eighth win Sept. 23 vs. Detroit, 13-8...prevented 36 of 47 inherited runners from scoring (77%)...held right-handed hitters to a .157 batting average (25x159), lowest among AL relievers...allowed just two home runs on the season (Chipper Jones, Edgar Martinez)...was 1-0, 7.04 in post-season, but was scored on in just two of eight appearances...worked two scoreless innings in two outings in ALDS vs. Oakland...won Game 4 of World Series, 3-2, with 1.1 scoreless innings at Shea Stadium.

was 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA and one save in 39 appearances in 1999, making two trips to the DL...retired 26 of 39 first batters faced...prevented 28 of 36 inherited runners from scoring...his 39 appearances were the fewest in a season since he appeared in 28 games with Seattle...made 22 appearances after returning from the D.L. for a second time and was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and one save (14.2 IP, 4 ER)...earned his first victory of the season on April 13 vs. Baltimore (1.0 IP)...was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 3 with an inflamed right elbow...reinstated from the 15-day D.L. on May 20 and made his first appearance since May 2 on May 23 at Chicago, allowing 3 ER in 2.0 IP (1 H, 2 BB, 3 K)...was placed on the 15-day D.L. for second time on June 4 with inflammation of his right elbow...made four consecutive appearances (3.1 IP, 1 H, 5 K) before being placed on D.L....underwent arthroscopic surgery on June 8 to repair inflammatory tissue and a small bone spur in his right elbow...surgery was performed by team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon and Dr. Mel Rosenwasser at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital...made five rehab-assignment starts for the Gulf Coast League Yankees and single-A Tampa, tossing five scoreless innings (2 H, 3 BB, 8 K) before being reinstated from the 15-day D.L. on Aug. 11...earned his first save of the season on Aug. 20 at Minnesota; first save since 9/24/98 vs. Tampa Bay...appeared in six of seven games from Sept. 21-27, allowing one hit and one earned run with 5 K in 3.1 IP...pitched in a team-high nine games in post-season play and did not allow a run in that span (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 K)...became the first pitcher in Major-League history to pitch in every game of a four-game Series.
