Amateur Background: Pitched 3 seasons at Cal Poly Pomona (CA) University...Was a Division II all-American in junior year, winning final 10 decisions for World Series runnerup...Played Baseball at Bishop Amat High School in Los Angeles (graduated '83)...Was an all-city selection in final 2 years. Hobbies: Classic trucks and Harley Davidson motorcycles...Favorite player while growing up was Sandy Koufax and favorite team was Los Angeles Dodgers...Mike and his wife, the former Lea Ann Pakuszewski, were married on Feb. 3, 1990, and have 2 daughters, Kailey Ann (10/9/91) and Lacy Annalea (4/4/96).

Started the season with the Rangers...Allowed a run in 4 of his 7 relief appearances, suffering lone decision with loss on April 12 in New York...Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 26 with left elbow trouble...Underwent surgery on June 28 to repair a torn pronator tendon in the elbow and missed the remainder of the season...Was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Sept. 5.
1999
Mike pitched in 56 games in his 1st season with Texas, the 6th time in his career he has worked in at least 50 contests. His 52.2 innings were a career high and his 3.93 era was the 3rd lowest of his career. He finished 5th on the club in appearances, and tied for 5th in games finished (11). Mike was sidelined for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs after fracturing his right foot in late September.
